to hell with the skinny police

I'm size 16 (big, at 5'4")

So is my mum. My mum has been bigger (I think) but I reckon she has been a size 16 for about 20 years.

She is 73. She swims, gardens, walks, runs a little business, is absolutely brilliant at minding small children, she sews, she cooks a lot, travels a lot, checks in on anyone around who has an illness or a problem, and entertains fabulously. She is never ill, never has a sleepless night, has health checks when they are offered on the NHS and they never throw up anything to worry about.

I have worried about my weight my whole life, and yo yo dieted constantly, and had on-off eating disorders. I have hidden from taking part in things I might have enjoyed because I will be seen to be too fat while doing them. I have fainted, cried, and had horrific anxiety attacks while under the influence of hunger. I've then reacted against that and had horribly unenjoyable bouts of overeating.

I am sick to death of it. fuck that noise. I am going to wake up tomorrow and change my life. I am going to eat three good meals a day, consisting of lots of vegetables, along with any other damn thing I want to eat. I am going to avoid alcohol, white bread, refined sugar (except as very special treats), and other than that I am going to eat ANYTHING I WANT.

I doubt I will put on weight but if I do I don't give a fuck. There are no fucks left in my heart to give about this. I have reached peak fatness-fucks. I am scanning the horizon with an extremely powerful telescope and THERE ARE NO FUCKS. I don't CARE. I have HAD ENOUGH.

If anyone bleats at me about "health" and "obesity" I will play a little movie in my head of a pissed, 8 stone, desperately miserable person vomiting into a toilet and then mentally give the bleater a MASSIVE kick up the arse (like Father Ted and Bishop Brennon). then I will laugh and get on with my life.

Does anyone want to join me?

It's the sublime to the ridiculous. Not that many posts back I was asked if I was depressed because I leave the house without lippy. Grin Hmm. Lets avoid the subject of mental health eh mum?

I don't agree it's human nature but societal expectation and am quite offended by you comparing people who have been maimed in accidents to someone who wants a pretty nose. In terms of sexual attraction, any attraction to someone boring, self obsessed and shallow will fade fast.

Vintagebeads · 29/02/2016 17:16

Well I am sick to death of the curvy police,I am not a "real" woman because Ihave no curves apparently.
I have been told by total strangers that I should go eat a muffin, and skinny this and that when trying on clothes, shop staff just wouldn't say to a "curvy" woman.
My dd is well above her height for what is average so is very slim, she is 8 years old and the comments she gets over it by adults are disgusting ,and would not be said to a "curvy" child as openly. She asked me what's wrong with herSad
What should I tell her.
She is not ill looking or under weight but being tall and slim brings out the bitch in people.
OP the irony in your title, its OKto shame as long as its not at you.Jesus women really are their own worst enemies.

2moreminutes · 29/02/2016 18:49

She is not ill looking or under weight but being tall and slim brings out the bitch in people.

They're jealous.
How wonderful to be tall and slim. She is starting life with an advantage.

what should I tell her

Let her know that she's perfect. Which she is.

The mental health card is always played on threads like this

Always

BunnyTyler · 29/02/2016 20:26

The mental health card is always played on threads like this

This ranks up there as one of the most twattiest things I have read.

TooOldForGlitter · 29/02/2016 20:28

Ah, the mental health card. I pull mine out so often I might get it laminated.

What a wanky thing to say.

VioletVaccine · 29/02/2016 20:37

Another slim woman here, also sick to the back teeth of people skinny shaming. Why is it considered the height of rudeness to comment on someone's obesity, but you can slate a woman's small frame freely?
The people who ascribe to the "Real men like curves, only a dog wants a bone" mantra, are both presumptuous and insulting and usually overweight.
Real men like whatever the fuck they want

VioletVaccine · 29/02/2016 20:41

Skinny Shaming when the tables are turned..

to hell with the skinny police
BunnyTyler · 29/02/2016 20:49

Who has 'skinny shamed' Violet??

HanYOLO · 29/02/2016 20:56

It's clearly wrong to belittle people on the basis of their weight. The OP's basic plan - to finding peace with her bodyshape - is a good one.

It's pretty saddening that some posters are insisting that the OP is lying, and isn't going to be happy with being heavier than they would like her to be.

HanYOLO · 29/02/2016 20:57

It's clearly wrong to belittle people on the basis of their weight. whether they are slim, fat, or anywhere in between

VioletVaccine · 29/02/2016 21:00

Bunny nobody on here personally has, my post was in response and support of everything Vintagebeads said, regarding the "curvy police". It wasn't aimed at anybody.

ladypete · 29/02/2016 21:30

For someone who says they have suffered with eating disorders themselves, you should know that your above comment is highly offensive. How would you feel if someone underweight wanting to blank out comments said they'd play a little movie of a 5'4", size 16 woman shoving cake into her mouth whilst lying on the sofa?! Nasty, nasty stereotyping. Not cool.

TooOldForGlitter · 29/02/2016 21:33

Oh for gods sake, OP said on page ONE and has reiterated it throughout the ten page thread that she was referring to herself.

BunnyTyler · 29/02/2016 21:34

READ THE FUCKING THREAD!!!!!!!!!!

TooOldForGlitter · 29/02/2016 21:34

Quite, Bunny 😃

BunnyTyler · 29/02/2016 21:40
Grin
ladypete · 29/02/2016 22:00

Well then its ridiculous to console yourself by imagining a skinnier you being an image of someone unhappy and eating disordered.

BunnyTyler · 29/02/2016 22:05

She is playing the mental video of what she used to be like.

How hard is that to understand? Confused

She really did go to great pains to explain this.

VioletVaccine · 01/03/2016 01:53

I think what has made the thread go this way, is it does feels personal to ascribe negative images about a particular size and weight, even if they are personal to you, and not a generalisation.

I am slim, but used to be a lot bigger than I am now. And like you, but when you were a smaller size, I was fucking miserable.
If I'd wrote the same post as yours in reverse now, and said I was sick of people judging me for being this slim as it's not healthy, so i'm going to play a movie in my head of when I was bigger- a miserable and greedy, 13st of wobbling fat, crying into my size 16s, when I was ashamed of myself you can guarantee there'd be a 13stone, size 16 woman who took offence at my own personal thoughts, because some of the size figures apply to them too. That was genuinely how I felt. It doesn't mean every size 16, 18, 20 woman will feel the same as I did, and nor should they, but weight and image are a personal issue.

Ginkypig · 01/03/2016 02:03

I can't believe this is still going on.

This poor women wanted some support trying to be happy as she is and turning her relationship to her body and food into a positive after years of misery trying to obtain slim that she misunderstood as happiness.
Mentioning that to her 8 stone meant she was in the throws of an eating disorder to show as an example as to why the above sentiment was so important to her.

some of you have then ripped her apart for things she didn't even say!

This thread is a fucking disgrace and I hope the next time some of you need support or a handhold you get because this lady certainly didn't!

Topseyt · 01/03/2016 07:58

Bugger off ladypete.

All has been repeatedly explained throughout the thread.

It really isn't hard to understand.

Ginkypig · 01/03/2016 10:22

So she can't talk about herself ladypeat? That 8 stone person she is talking about is one person only herself when she had an eating disorder

And the kick up the arse is probably talking about people like you who chant their ignorance without ever considering that they don't actually understand what has been said to them.

hmcAsWas · 01/03/2016 14:04

Ladypeat - ignore. OP was at last partly at fault for the loaded language and not explaining herself in the opening post. I can't abide 'read the thread' zealots who clearly have too much time on their hands if they religiously read every post on the thread rather than skim it like normal people Wink

MumOnTheRunCatchingUp · 01/03/2016 14:32

Yes ladypete ,ignore!!
