My friend is pregnant and is having a girl. She has chosen her DD name. It is a location-drink type name like Glasgow-buckfast but not quite.

I smiled and said it was unique and quietly changed the subject. She has told several people who I have also spoken to. They think its funny and the wee girl will laughted at or will become some sort of chavy/neddy type.

I think its a daft name but not the worst one I have heard recently. Usually I would say her DD her choice but as someone with an odd name who was bullied at school I feel like I should say something.

Aibu to say something? Surely she would have thought about the slagability of the name? Help.

Oh gosh. It's awful isn't it? Let's hope she's having you on!

TrixieBlue2016 · 27/02/2016 17:32

God I hadn't thought of the girl being called foreskin. I just remember a boy being called Fuckurma as he was named after were he was conceived.

Great idea for a game though. Where you first DTD with partner and what you had been drinking.

Might have to start another thread...

BellEnd-Barcardi Grin

ghostyslovesheep · 27/02/2016 17:33

Only1scoop · 27/02/2016 17:36

Dtd in Erskine

How glamorous Confused

Only1scoop · 27/02/2016 17:37

At least it's not Gorbals

Small mercies and all that

WhiskyTangoFoxtrot · 27/02/2016 17:37

First DTD might introduce a bit of variety. If it was TTC location plus drink, half of MN would have DC called London Gin

helensburgh · 27/02/2016 17:38

Dreadful.name. surely sense will prevail once baby is born

doughnutslikefannys · 27/02/2016 17:41

I had a guinea pig called Bailey.

lalalalyra · 27/02/2016 17:51

I wouldn't be able to not say something. It'd kill the friendship, but I grew up with a ridiculous name and I think people with normal names or nice names just have no idea how shit it is to have a crap name.

And whilst children get picked on and bullied for a myriad of things, and having a nice name doesn't make you immune, it's pretty shit when your own parents set up the punchline for the other kids.

iklboo · 27/02/2016 18:03

Whitby Jaeger?
Cleethorpes Stout?

honeylulu · 27/02/2016 18:39

It's a bit of a horror of a name but my view is don't say anything. If they've made up their minds it will only offend.
I often hear of friends who have called their children names I dislike but I just say "that's nice" (like Mrs Brown).
Btw friend of a friend who had a car mad husband called their son Lotus - Elan (sorry if misspelt, I have eff all interest in cars). A boy .... called Lotus. Even my inner Mrs Brown was challenged by that one.

CallMeDaisy · 27/02/2016 18:43

Yep I was coming in to say that the first thing it makes me think is 'foreskin' too :/ Poor kid.

Salmotrutta · 27/02/2016 18:45

Littleallovertheshop · 27/02/2016 19:33

This is amazing. I was thinking something like Maryhill- Mad Dog, but Erskine-Bailey is truly wonderful. That poor poor child.

TrixieBlue2016 · 27/02/2016 19:33

Salmotrutta its a prime number and the first name one of the greatest Celtic managers ever. I hated it as a child in the 80s, the whole Celtic v Rangers thing

Now its cool. My DSS loves it Grin

Erskine Bailey "oh how lively, E. B., reminds me of EB White who wrote Charlotte's Web. Don't you think
Charlotte's just the loveliest name"? Plant a little seed ........

MitzyLeFrouf · 27/02/2016 19:54

Erskine --suicide ?? WTF l live here

Well I'd have thought that anyone who lives there would be well aware that the Erskine bridge is one of Scotland's most notorious suicide spots.

Sorry if you're offended by my association!
