All she seams to do is smoke, get shit tattoos, make sexist videos, get naked etc. Very glad to see her latest album is a flop

Hate for Rhianna is because she is a beautiful black woman

So many feel threatened when there are beautiful black women around

Iggi999 · 08/02/2016 23:19

YohY I didn't dislike her until I watched the video for Bitch better have my money. There is no excuse for that, it was a horribly nasty thing which objectified women and laughed off violence against them.
I don't care which artist made it I would feel disgusted at them.

Iggi999 · 08/02/2016 23:21

Lilacspunonkey, well remember she is a nightmare dressed like a daydream, so I would lock your doors!

anonymousnosides · 08/02/2016 23:22

You all know Beyonce is coming to town, right? (soon).

LilacSpunkMonkey · 08/02/2016 23:22

Ah shit, Tay-Tay better not come here whining about Harry bloody Styles again.

I'm sick of her turning up and crying about her crappy boyfriends.

Grin

YohY : Grin Grin Grin Grin

Seriously your trying to say this is racist? There are plenty of anti miley threads, but she isnt releasing commecial music at the moment.

Shes dropped to 17 on amazon on her second week and can't even see her on the itunes top 100 albums. www.apple.com/itunes/charts/albums/

Floptastic.

Hmmm, I'm really making the rounds today it seems.

Your glee mpje at the so-called 'flop' of Rihanna's album is unfounded as has been already pointed out. You seem to want her to fail for whatever unfathomable reason. I hope she's reading this thread and especially your comments and crying about it. It will really bother her, I'm sure she'll suffer.

Highsteaks · 09/02/2016 20:52

What about Emeli Sande?

Emeli Sande hasnt released big anything for ages has she?

LilacSpunkMonkey · 09/02/2016 21:14

I've actually been pondering about this thread today and thinking about a modern black female singer who would be equivalent to Whitney or Aretha.

Alicia Keys.

Brilliant, extremely gifted musically, beautiful, powerful. Nuff said.

AdrenalineFudge · 09/02/2016 22:28

LilacSpunkMonkey I'd also add Corinne Bailey Rae. Brandy, Toni Braxton, Kelly Rowland (back in the day). Admittedly the only Brit here is CBR but the others whom are US based did pretty good in the UK charts also. I know Emile Sande has already been mentioned but there's also Sade and FKA twigs and Beverley Knight to name but a few UK artists.

HandsomeGroomGiveHerRoom · 09/02/2016 22:50

I think it's a class thing as much as it's a race a thing.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 09/02/2016 23:33

Less well known but Rhiannon Giddens.

lostoldlogin2 · 10/02/2016 04:36

I'm succeeding in saying it is racist. Aside from the fact that revelling in someone else's failure (although as previously stated - this is not a failure) is seriously distasteful and pathetic - it is glaringly obvious if the overwhelming majority of comments about young black female artists are negative and their white counterparts are help up as "examples".

mpje · 10/02/2016 06:38

It's hardly revelling in the failure of one person, she has very little to do with the process of recording the album, maybe 2-3%. It's enjoying that people are rejecting what she stands for.

Does Mariah Carey with a black parent count as black? Rita Ora as Albanian? You are looking ridiculous playing the race card. Miley has never been held up as an example here as im sure your very aware of.

Alicia Keys is great, most of the others mentioned however are one album artists.

Beyonce is a good enough singer and amazing dancer. But she does just buy in songs and pay people off to claim self written songs.

HelpfulChap · 10/02/2016 06:58

Ridiculous that this has been turned into a race issue. I don't like Rhianna either but I love Jimi Hendrix, Nat King Cole, Etta James, Isaac Hayes, Billie Holiday, Tina Turner and countless other black artists.

I am not particularly keen on RnB as a genre and only like old school rap like Grand Master Flash, Afrika Baambata and Salt & Pepper. I don't like Jayzee or Kanye (for example).

www.celebuzz.com/2016-02-01/rihanna-anti-sales-460-flop/

As we reported last week, Rihanna’s long-awaited ANTI, which finally dropped (to polarizing reception) last Wednesday (Jan. 27, 2016), has already been certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Unfortunately for Rihanna, her achievement is somewhat undermined by the fact that Samsung, a sponsor of her upcoming world tour, purchased those copies — all one million of them — and gave them away for free. Do you know who doesn’t count albums given away for free by phone companies? Literally everyone except for the RIAA, including Billboard.

It's been a flop, those a million sales were freebies in the only one region she didn't have awful first week sales. Its been a huge flop so far and is dropping quickly.

megletthesecond · 10/02/2016 07:20

I'm not sure that stalker Adele has the moral high ground over Rihanna.

They each have their own style and will exploit it until the cows come home. Fair play to them and their teams.

Gummydrops · 10/02/2016 07:34

Any time a non White person raises an issue 'stop playing the race card' how dare you I dont my race I just am. The fact that you think non white people play their race to get ahead says a lot about you.

Gummydrops · 10/02/2016 07:35

Let me guess you also have Black Friends

AppleSetsSail · 10/02/2016 08:39

Gummy the fact that you think that Rihanna gets a harder time than Miley makes me think that you have little objectivity. I'd argue that Miley Cyrus is probably the most ridiculed pop star alive today.

lostoldlogin2 · 10/02/2016 10:58

the phrase "playing the race card" is in itself offensive - as explained by Charles Blow in the New York Times....

"I have a particular revulsion for this phrase because of all that it implies: that people often invoke race as a cynical ploy to curry favor, or sympathy, and to cast aspersions on the character of others.......

.....It is one thing to debate the presence of racial motive in a circumstance, but it is quite another to suggest that people who suspect a racial component are exploiting some mythological, vaunted position and prerogative of aggrieved groups or exerting the exclusionary authority of the dominant group.

And furthermore, what other forms of discrimination are so routinely diminished and delegitimized in this way — cast as a game, a tactic or a stratagem?

The truth is that the people who accuse others — without a shred of evidence — of “playing the race card,” claiming that the accusations of racism are so exaggerated as to dull the meaning of the term, are themselves playing a card. It is a privileged attempt at dismissal."

Just putting that out there.

Birdsgottafly · 10/02/2016 11:27

She's got major backers, including JZ, so we'll probably see her turn up somewhere else, if she ever bows out of making music.

I do like her tattoos, but tattoos always divide opinion.

As for smoking, I think that she's done very well to avoid harder drugs (given that she's come from a addiction background).

She came from a different culture and troubled background and was plunged into stardom, at 17, she's actually held it together, very well.

Even if her career was to end tomorrow, she'll hardly have to run back to the slums of Barbados (I know she didn't come from a slum, btw), so there really is no need to worry about her.

AppleSetsSail · 10/02/2016 12:34

Well, he explains why he finds it offensive. It's a tired phrase and often used by racists, so I can agree with what he says to a large extent. It doesn't follow, however, that no one will ever raise the spectre of racism without cause.

mpje · 10/02/2016 14:53

There is plenty of evidence, anyway looks like the same view kept coming back with new usernames...

Anyway I'm Asian but that poster kept called me white. They were just here to cause trouble.
