All she seams to do is smoke, get shit tattoos, make sexist videos, get naked etc. Very glad to see her latest album is a flop

Not including Madonna obviously. Grin

goodnightdarthvader1 · 08/02/2016 11:13

I've been a LG fan since she took off in the states (before she made it here). Let's say she's never been a big fan of clothes, and her early songs definitely revolved around sex and a bit of bondage (LoveGame, Poker Face, I Like It Rough - all from her debut album).

Why is LG "creative" and Rhianna is "shocking"? It's all tits and ass, what's the difference, exactly? You think LG wasn't setting up to shock and turn heads, get herself noticed?

LittleLionMansMummy · 08/02/2016 11:15

If I had Rihanna's body I'd probably wear fewer clothes too. I think she's made some good songs and I have a bit of a girl crush on her

I quite like her music and can't honestly say too much beyond that. Madonna is provocative too but I don't hear many people wishing her to flop. Indeed she's a mainstay of pop culture. Maybe I'm missing something to be outraged about though where Rihanna is concerned. I admit I know very little about her and don't scrutinise her relationships or tendencies.

gunting · 08/02/2016 11:17

Flopped in what way? She's still number 1 in the us and her new album has gone platinum

frikadela01 · 08/02/2016 11:21

I don't think Lady Gaga's career has been built on the whole sex/nudity/S&M thing, has it?

No but you could argue that a large part of Madonna career has been built on controversy surrounding sex and while she was lambasted to some extent I don't think there is quite so much hatred around her as I've seem for Rihanna.

frikadela01 · 08/02/2016 11:24

X posted regarding Madonna I see.

Would like to point out regarding Madonna that she is largely celebrated now for all the sex book/erotica controversy back in the day. All that independent woman knowing her own mind etc.

dustarr73 · 08/02/2016 11:25

Thats because Madonna did it first[and better].Lady GaGa is a bit meh.Dont like her at all

SoupDragon · 08/02/2016 11:27

TBH, I feel that rejoicing in the failure or misfortune of others is far shittier than anything Rhianna has ever done.

SirChenjin · 08/02/2016 11:33

Madonna is/was tame compared to Rihanna. Even in the 80s it wasn't comparable at all - look at her videos then compared to what Rihanna and her peers consistently churn out. The notion of what was shocking way back when I was a teenager in the 80s and nowadays is very, very different.

LittleLionMansMummy · 08/02/2016 11:38

Did Madonna not wear a cone shaped bra/ corset and simulate lesbian kisses etc? Perhaps I dreamed it...

Quimby · 08/02/2016 11:39

Lol at flopped

It's been a huge success

LovelyFriend · 08/02/2016 11:39

TBH, I feel that rejoicing in the failure or misfortune of others is far shittier than anything Rhianna has ever done.

I was just popping in to say exactly this.
Why fill your life with such shitty negativity obo someone you don't even know?

frikadela01 · 08/02/2016 11:40

SirChenjin I disgree about madonna being tamer. Her sex book is down right explicit pornography. As are some scenes from the erotica and justify my love videos. Yet it's hailed as art and madonna is celebrated and Rihanna is a disgusting example to young girls and people wish her to fail Hmm

goodnightdarthvader1 · 08/02/2016 11:41

Rihanna is behaving in the same way as her peers - she's not exactly leading the way in shocking behaviour, unless I've missed something. Things have been getting raunchier since the 80s, absolutely, but it's not like Rihanna is the poster child for raunch (Christina Aguilera's Dirty, for example). I think more recent outrage would be reserved for:

Madonna and Britney's "lesbian" kiss
LG: meat dress
Miley Cyrus: twerking Robin Thicke's crotch

NathalieM · 08/02/2016 11:41

It swings both ways. Young men are also used by the industry, made to sell as many records as possible to teenyboppers, and then discarded once the next hottest male group comes along.

The biggest record companies, which represent the biggest artists, usually only care about the bottom line and as such will use sexuality to sell. That's just the nature of the game.

As for people saying Rhianna is vile. Really? She's overtly sexual but maybe it's her choice and to be frank there are far worse things for young women than Rhianna. Maybe young women can look at her success and take something else from it, as opposed to just viewing her as a victim of a male dominated industry.

SirChenjin · 08/02/2016 11:42

A cone shaped bra?? Yeah, shocking stuff Grin

Yes, she simulated lesbian kisses as part of her stage show - but there was also a lot of tame stuff in her mainstream videos as well (and no, I didn't dream that)

goodnightdarthvader1 · 08/02/2016 11:43

Oh, and let's not forget the charming simulated sex scene on a motorbike between Kim and Kayne for that annoying screechy song (no idea what it's called, don't care)

juneau · 08/02/2016 11:43

FWIW I think the same of Miley Cyrus - and she's white. And the one who really started all this is semi-nudity, bondage, simulated sex is Madonna (also white). Beyonce is much more classy, IMO, although she could do with wearing a few more clothes too.

As for Lady Gaga - she's a minimally talented singer who excels at publicising herself and little else.

LittleLionMansMummy · 08/02/2016 11:44

Oh and as for sexually explicit lyrics/ imagery and S&M then you should look no further than Madonna's Hanky Panky. Rihanna is not exactly breaking the mold.

LittleLionMansMummy · 08/02/2016 11:45

Sir I was referring to the accusations of 'under dressing' levelled at Rihanna and others.

OwlCurrency · 08/02/2016 11:48

I wonder how any of you would feel if someone told you to cover yourself up more and stop flaunting your body.

Pretty pissed off, I imagine. But that's exactly what you are doing to someone else, because you think she wears the 'wrong' amount of clothing.

Who sets this fucking standard as to what the 'right' and 'wrong' amount of clothing for women is?

HandsomeGroomGiveHerRoom · 08/02/2016 11:52

The single is pretty good, imo

Pop music and sex go hand-in-hand. It was ever thus. I can't get worked up about it.

LittleLionMansMummy · 08/02/2016 11:54

Indeed Owl there are some on these boards who would advocate banning the burka/ not send their daughters on visits to mosques for the reasons you state.

katemiddletonsothermum · 08/02/2016 11:54

how long will it be before someone performs live completely naked? Already all but naked in music videos.

Tartyflette - Didn't Miley Cyrus strip off completely in the Wrecking Ball video? And I seem to remember some rock band from the 1970s had a couple performing live s*x on stage (tried to google it, but then thought better of it, yer honour).

Although, having said that, I am with you on Rihanna. Can't stand the girl.
