All she seams to do is smoke, get shit tattoos, make sexist videos, get naked etc. Very glad to see her latest album is a flop

What does she promote to kids though?

Yes on social media she smokes weed but should a child really be on Instagram?

She's a recording artist and a young woman. She's not exactly mr tumble or tinky winky

mpje · 08/02/2016 12:41

Most of her other albums were Q4 when there is lots of competition. Q1 albums not so much.

Anyway shes used to banging out an album every year, thats pretty easy when you just buy in songs.

Yes her RC used the old "giving it away for free" as they clearly had little confidence seeing as shes been trying to release the album herself for years.

mpje you're reaching now. You may dislike her but why not just come and and say "I don't like and I hope she fails" rather than try to convince people a US no.1 album is a flop.

mpje · 08/02/2016 12:45

Anything that falls far short of expectations can be a flop. Just because something is no 1 doesn't mean it is a sucess. Truth be told we have to wait a few months, but it's not looking good for this project.

Awadebumbo agreed.

shoeaddict83 · 08/02/2016 12:50

one of those posters - 'my opinion is fact and i will not be swayed from it or agree that its just my personal opinion!!' Rihanna is a flop and thats that!! Confused

dustarr73 · 08/02/2016 12:52

I dont understand the role model crap being spouted. She is an adult woman,of course she can do what teenagers cant..Its up to the parents to be a role model not a popstar.

Plus shes not a US artist she is from Barbados.

LordBrightside · 08/02/2016 12:54

I'm not really a fan or Rihanna, but the issue many women see to have with her is that she chooses to portray herself in a sexualised way. This objection is tiresome and tawdry.

Rihanna is an adult and sex is not a bad thing.

Awadebumbo · 08/02/2016 12:55

Yes Shoeaddict a Number one on the Billboard Charts and the alibums already gone platinium. But IT'S A FLOP apparently.

shoeaddict83 · 08/02/2016 13:02

i know!Thats the reason im not a pop star - reckon i could only shift 950k in one day so id be an even bigger flop....Grin

Gummydrops · 08/02/2016 13:31

Is it ok to say the same of Madonna, all she seems to do is drink, start her concerts . Comtinue to burn our eyes with her half naked body on social media. Parade all her children on social media so much so one has ran away to his dad. Continue to release songs about sex and drugs even though she is a mother. Ans dont let me start on Lady Gaga, Miley Vurus, Britney Spears, Chery Cole sniff sniff

Gummydrops · 08/02/2016 13:33

Just in case you are wondering being very sarcastic. Most of these so called stars drink, take drugs and have shitty tatoos just look ay One Direction and Justin Bieber

LovelyFriend · 08/02/2016 13:49

Most of these so called stars drink, take drugs and have shitty tatoos just look ay One Direction and Justin Bieber
but they are men so that's OK
Shock Confused
Wink

SirChenjin · 08/02/2016 13:58

Justin Bieber is generally thought to be an arse boil.

One D haven't featured S&M and gratuitous nudity and sex to sell their records, have they? Or did I miss that? Grin

TooOldForGlitter · 08/02/2016 14:11

"Contine to release songs about sex and drugs even though she is a mother"

Eh? What does being a mother have to do with anything?

Awadebumbo · 08/02/2016 14:29

I think that gummydrops might have been pointing out the fact that some female singers are held to a different standard than others.

TooOldForGlitter · 08/02/2016 14:43

Ah I see.

goodnightdarthvader1 · 08/02/2016 14:47

One D haven't featured S&M and gratuitous nudity and sex to sell their records

And that's the point you're missing. Women in pop / RnB are made to feel they HAVE to do these things to sell records. Not the blokes, though (especially sugary-sweet boybands, butter wouldn't melt). But hey, much easier to blame the women themselves rather than the culture they're in.

TubbyTabby · 08/02/2016 14:49

Yeah - she's pretty trashy all right.

amarmai · 08/02/2016 14:53

there was an mn thread like this last year where some mners attacked Madonna for similar reasons. Jealousy?

dustarr73 · 08/02/2016 14:53

Somebody of Rihanna or Madonna stature ARE doing it because they want to.

Plus 1D are puppets wait till they are let loose on the world when they go solo. You wont believe it.There will be sex drugs and rock n roll.

SirChenjin · 08/02/2016 14:56

Exactly dust

I'm not missing any point. Women aren't puppets and it's infantalising to suggest otherwise - people like Rihanna and Madonna make active choices to use sex and sexuality to sell their music, just as Adele and others don't.

LilacSpunkMonkey · 08/02/2016 15:02

On the subject of whether she's a role model for teenage girls, has Rihanna chosen that for herself? If she sees herself as an adult making adult music and videos for an adult audience then I don't see why she should be thinking for even a heartbeat about what the teens think.

I clearly remember Lily Allen and Jamelia being on Never Mind the Buzz Cockshutt a few years ago and James is telling Lily off for the bad language on her album because her (Jamelia) daughter liked to listen to it. Lily's response - rightly - was 'but I didn't record my album for your daughter, Jamelia'.

Is it not the same for Rihanna? And Lady Gaga, Madonna, etc. Unless they're now playing these videos on CBeebies it's really down to us as parents to be exerting more control over what our children watch and listen to, not blaming the adult entertainers.
