to not much like this name but not know how best to proceed?

DD's 18th birthday present puppy.

The name DD appears to be settling on is inoffensive, pleasant and frankly a bit dull. And I don't like it.

She has declined all of my suggestions. What can I do to get over it?

(Yes, I know this is a non-issue but I'll be hollaring this name accross the countryside for the next 16 years)

You'll get used to it.
It's like a baby name you don't like, soon you'll love the baby and so the name becomes them.
What's the name?

Her puppy so presumably she should be doing the hollering and wouldn't she be taking the dog with her when she moves out in a few years?

She has Aspergers and is bone idle and unlikely to leave home any time soon.

I don't like my husbands name and have avoided calling him it for 20 years.

why does it matter?! even if your suggestions were better, it's her puppy, so she gets to choose.

It is perfectly possible to avoid names if you are human. Not everyone talks like they are on jeremy kyle and needs to use the name in every sentence.

Her puppy, she's now an adult, she chooses.

As an adult, she also gets to look after the puppy!

IF she loves the name so much, she'd probably give it to her first child, so be thankful you don;t have to avoid calling your grandchild by their given name.

Having a pet can be really helpful for a child or young person with AS. DS2 had a wonderful bond with our cat, remembered to feed her every day, and took on the responsibility for grooming her when she was too old and frail to do it herself. I think it taught him to take into account the needs of others.

Who said she won't walk it? I said she was bone idle, not that she won't walk it. I am likely to walk it because I want to. Walking dogs is a pleasure not a chore (mostly). She is possibly never going to be independent enough to leave hime. Why shouldn't she have a dog?

But I will be walking it (because I will want to) both with DD and alone and DD will also walk it. Walking it is not a problem.

Oh my gosh what a cute dog! I hate my cats name (thanks dh) I never call her it and we've got by for 13 years. You'll get loads of posts now fixating on your dd best to ignore people who don't understand ASD generally don't want to even try so save you energy.
