DD's 18th birthday present puppy.

The name DD appears to be settling on is inoffensive, pleasant and frankly a bit dull. And I don't like it.

She has declined all of my suggestions. What can I do to get over it?

(Yes, I know this is a non-issue but I'll be hollaring this name accross the countryside for the next 16 years)

That gorgeous pup absolutely looks like an Agatha OP and that would indeed be a vastly superior name to Millie........but I'm afraid you're just going to have to suck it up. It's pesky when other people have opinions on things I find. Grin

Would love to know what He Whose Name Has Not Been Uttered In 20 Years is actually called. Is your husband a Wayne OP?

JingsAndCrivens · 30/01/2016 16:30

Loveheart Pompom is a bloody amazing name for a chicken WhoTheFuck! Poor old chickens aren't usually given names with enough pomp and glamour.

Claraoswald36 · 30/01/2016 16:32

I could only call that dog Colin.
Misses point blithely.

I let my kids name my dog. His name is therefore ginger. It does my head in but they refused to let me call him Jim.

AlissDemurrage · 30/01/2016 16:46

My ASD son wanted to call his puppy Aldi, as it apparently sounded nice (he was 15). We spent the hour long drive back home in a strong debate on the matter. We ended up with Hermie which I shortened to Herman Grin

He will, however, answer to most things, including but not limited to, Hermalerm, dude, for fucks sake, oi dog and cat.

WhoTheFuckIsSimon · 30/01/2016 16:48

My dog is Luna McPuna Quuen Of The Tunas.

Grin
WhoTheFuckIsSimon · 30/01/2016 16:48

Though I don't tell the vet that!

ShmooBooMoo · 30/01/2016 16:58

My friend's daughter - when she was little - had a cat called Truly Scrumptious Grin

I think Millie is fine...though, she does look like a Penelope to me: 'Lady Penelope', in fact.

As much as you dislike Millie, your daughter choosing the name gives her ownership and may allow her to bond with the dog better (which I'm sure you want).

ShmooBooMoo · 30/01/2016 17:00

WhoTheFuckIsSimon: friend has a dog called Leopold Von VinkleVoof!
At the vet's he's known as plain old Leo Grin

QueenofLouisiana · 30/01/2016 17:41

My dog came from the rescue home with a rubbish name- we've adapted it over time. She also answers to Daft Mutt, Stupid (at 6am this morning as she panted in my face in the hope of getting a walk) and Dog.

As PPs have suggested we quite like the name now- it's just who she is.

SaucyJack · 30/01/2016 18:12

I've a crack in my phone screen which covered the "L" in the walk in your post QueenOfL.

I was temporarily lost for words.

FattyFishwife · 30/01/2016 18:27

if its anything like our dogs, it will end up as milliboo, millibobs, mildred, milster, milly molly mandy, milly molly moo, milly moo, mooster...anything but millie LOL

allnewredfairy · 30/01/2016 18:32

My minidach is called Fleur but she thinks it's 'ForfucksakeFleur' she hears it so often

Crazypetlady · 30/01/2016 19:16

My mums cat is a millie but we call her Millington

StarkyTheDirewolf · 30/01/2016 20:36

She is definetly a Mildred. Grin

My Dh wants a sausage dog, if this ever happens, he plans in naming it Graham. We had a dog called Millie, she because Milzo, Moo, Moozle.
Our dog is called Nacho, but mainly answers to Cheesy, Yeesus or Dobby.

SparklesandBangs · 30/01/2016 21:23

To agree, most dogs answer to anything when called and most cats just can't be bothered why should they come when you call!

My parents 'allowed' me have a dog for my 19th birthday, when I still lived at home, I chose the name, no one helped or interfered.

She was walked with the other family dogs, sometimes by me, or my parents or my siblings. She was always fed by dad as he did the dog's tea.

When I moved out she stayed behind, my mum didn't work, lived in a large house in the middle of the country and her dog friends were there.

I moved to a modern box in a town.

Your DD may move out not all ASD adults live at home but not take the dog.

NB I don't dislike DH name but I rarely use it unless I am annoyed!

Jezebel555 · 30/01/2016 22:00

She has Aspergers and is bone idle
LOVELY

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 30/01/2016 22:14

oh I like doggy dog names like Millie. Two syllables, second with optional '-eeeee' for easy shouting

some fancy/funny names strike me as a bit try-hard

(I would say that, though. We've got a Minnie aka Minge )

HookedOnHooking · 30/01/2016 22:25

Yes Jezabel. She is. But also happens to have Aspergers and is bone idle.

Powertotheparalai · 30/01/2016 22:27

Oh my gosh what a lovely sausage. If call him Dave

squoosh · 30/01/2016 22:39

Muddha one of the joys of getting a dog is so you can use a pretentious try-hard name on them!

I can't understand why people waste a good pet naming opportunity on Oscar or Poppy.

Wardrobespierre · 30/01/2016 22:43

My niece is autistic and her pets are called Ninja Three and Balloon Ride. Grin

AnneEtAramis · 30/01/2016 22:47

Sometimes I consider buying a dog so that I can shout 'ALEXEI' across the fields just like Anna Karenina.

Obviously I know a dog is not just for fictional reenactments though.

OP I think you just need to suck it up.

shutupandshop · 30/01/2016 22:51

Lovely name

Run247 · 30/01/2016 22:51

I have a lovely Millie.

She gets called

Millie Moo
Moo-Moo
Moodle
Moodly-doo
Millicent
Mildred
Mills
And a dozen other nicknames.

I think you can be creative with the nicknames.

landrover · 30/01/2016 23:38

I think that you should have put "lighthearted" in the title!
