To think showering often isn't good for you

I very rarely have a shower at home (helps with the cleaning and water bill too), I go the the gym / pool most days so will just have a quick dry scrub and flannel wash in the morning and a shower after workout.

Just having this conversation with a friend and she usually showers 2-3 times a day. In the morning, after workout and before bed.

I thought this sounds a bit excessive tbh.

I dont think its great for your skin to shower too much, but I do have very sensitive skin and rarely wash my face or get it wet.

3 times a day is excessive. I can't work out why you'd need another shower before bed if you've already had one after the gym. I shower every day. I would rather jump in the shower for five minutes than have a wash at the sink.

jelliebelly · 28/01/2016 08:23

Who on earth has time to shower 3 times s day!!!

Only1scoop · 28/01/2016 08:24

Shower in the morning and bath at night to relax.

Just right for me

livingintheNL · 28/01/2016 09:39

Agree PP about modern obession with hiding natural smells. The oils and what not are probably good for us.

Dry skin brushing is brushing the skin towards the heart to remove dead skin cells. Great for you and for the lynf system, apparently. Feels good, works on orange p.

natural smells include sweat, urine and faeces. If you don't approve of removing those, please stand downwind of the rest of us.

no evidence that farting around with a brush on your skin will do anything whatsoever. 'cellulite' is beauty babble for 'natural skin texture'. So if natural smells are allowed, why isn't that?

spankhurst · 28/01/2016 10:51

I shower quickly every day but only use soap on the essential bits and don't have the water hot. No skin problems. Three times seems bordering on obsessive.

HolditFinger · 28/01/2016 10:57

I don't feel right if I don't get my morning shower and just feel a bit icky all day. That's just me though, I don't really care what others do.

leelu66 · 28/01/2016 11:56

Tamponlady - "If your a woman especially when on your period you need to shower every day and was your lady garden

Vaginas stink if there not washed daily especially in the summer yuk"

No need to shower to clean your lady garden. There are such things as bidets, hand held showers, bottles etc.

Really you should be washing your bits after every wee/poo.

moopymoodle · 28/01/2016 12:06

'Vaginas are self cleaning'

No, just no they are not. Yes the inside might be but the outside has folds of skin, aswell as any bodily fluids that can collect and as it's close to your backside and you use toilet roll to dry it which has a dusty residue... It is good hygiene to clean yourself down below at least once a day.

Always amazes me that it's the ones who don't wash often who claim they don't smell. When Infact they do they just can't smell it!

Telling people to see a doctor if after 24 hours they aren't feeling fresh is ridiculous! My inner parts would be fine but my outer parts have been peed on, wiped with toilet roll, periods, sometimes discharge and I rarely sweat but any area that has natural bodily fluids isn't going to be great after 24 hours.

I would not be comfortable with intimacy after 24 hours of not cleaning myself.

Flannels omg the horror.

My 83 dad has some sort of a 'strip wash' thing and oh my word he doesn't smell great Confused.

Honest to god in this day and age just get yerselves into the blimmin shower at least once a day.

3 times a day is a little excessive though unless you have done a lot of separate exercise.

Gatehouse77 · 28/01/2016 12:21

I shower every morning unless ill and then I'll shower at some point in the day.
I would shower after exercise, if I ever did it!
I sometimes shower in the evening if I've been particularly sweaty (summer), swimming or cold.

I do have the odd dry patches but put aqueous cream on them and it's fine.

CrystalMcPistol · 28/01/2016 12:27

Do not use aqueous cream as a moisturiser! It thins the skin.

leelu66 · 28/01/2016 12:30

Crystal, is E45 cream an aqueous cream?

CrystalMcPistol · 28/01/2016 12:32

Nope E45 is fine to use.

paxillin · 28/01/2016 12:35

Judging by the smell of the tube come Wednesday showering too often isn't a big problem in the general population.

Doublebubblebubble · 28/01/2016 12:38

3 times a day is excessive. But people should shower every morning I'm sure some of the people on my 45 minute commute every morning have never heard of soap

Jibberjabberjooo · 28/01/2016 12:39

Aqueous cream is meant to be used as a soap. One of my dc has eczema and we use it in the bath.

Jw35 · 28/01/2016 13:01

I shower every morning and sometimes have a bath in the evening.

I shower every morning and have a bath at night if I have changed the sheets.
I have friends who shower 3 or 4 times a day, which I think is excessive.

You should do whatever you are comfortable with. When I was a child we had a bath once a week. My parents probably didn't even have one that often but had strip down washes every morning and sometimes at night. We didn't have a shower in our house.
Some people sweat more than others. I tend not to sweat that much.

jadorecakesnbiscuits · 28/01/2016 14:17

Yeah these threads always bring out the douches too. The sort of people that have to dettol their poons every day because they don't feel 'clean' but not only that, they have to insult others that don't shower constantly.

I have terrible eczema that my son also has, we both shower every other day, I can't have baths as they dry out my skin, if I have the shower too hot my skin cracks and bleeds. Fortunately I'm not a particularly smelly person. Some people have to shower more though.

livingintheNL · 28/01/2016 14:23

Dry skin brushing does do something, thats not disputable as its something physical. You can see the dead skin cells flying off on a sunny day

Haha, j'adore, was that pun intentional? I agree.

Gatehouse77 · 28/01/2016 16:46

I react to E45 as does one of my DC. She washes with aqueous but I can use Simple exfoliating wash. Both of us have to be careful what soaps, shampoos, etc. we use. Including washing powder and fabric conditioner.
