To feed them pasta with pesto?

My db, dsil, and two dn just turned up to spend the weekend.
I am exhausted after being up late last night, looking after my own kids all day, and getting the house ready for their arrival. I was going to order (and pay) for a takeaway for dinner.

Unfortunately it is a hours wait for the delivery and the children were hungry now, so I cooked some pasta and added pesto and cream. Apparently the children aren't used to this kind of food, their grandma who lives with them usually makes sure they eat better....... Hmm.
I can punch dsil right??! Confused

Christ, we'd starve some nights if it weren't for a packet of pasta and a jar of pesto. Nothing wrong with it at all, quick, healthy and yummy. DC loved it as young children (especially the Sacla aubergine one which isn't quite as strong a flavour and a bit more kicky).

DoesntLeftoverTurkeySoupDragOn · 02/01/2016 14:04

I can't understand why people are arguing about whether pesto is nice or nasty

Really? You can't have been on MN long then :o

Pipbin · 02/01/2016 14:15

I've been here for years - I still don't get it.
'I think this food is lovely' 'I think it tastes like it came from satan's bum hole.' What is the point in that argument?

DoesntLeftoverTurkeySoupDragOn · 02/01/2016 14:38

Did the large grin not give away the fact that my comment was a joke? If you've been on MN for years you should know we can, and do, argue about anything.

Perhaps I should have put "light hearted" after my post Hmm

Saukko · 02/01/2016 15:32

Some protein and vegetables would make it more of a meal, rather than plain ol' pasta with oil and herbs on it.

bruffin · 02/01/2016 15:57

saukko
both pasta and pesto contain protein.

thebestfurchinchilla · 02/01/2016 15:59

MEgirlMy dd is allergic to nuts so have to avoid ALL nuts. Pine nuts or cashews were included on the list to avoid given to us by the allergist at hospital.

Pipbin · 02/01/2016 16:00

I wonder if Saukko is one of those people who gets twitchy about protein when something doesn't contain meat.

Sorry Doesnt, I think we need a 'lighthearted' face, I guess Wink will have to do.

duckbilled · 02/01/2016 16:40

Update I officially will never have her to stay again!
She has been difficult about everything, not just my culinary skills Smile.
So far she hates the town I live in because the shops are too busy ( it's the weekend after newyear....), I should have a detached house with a driveway as she doesn't want her car parked in the street, And to top it all off I was woken at six this morning with their youngest telling me mummy said to wake up aunt duck to put the TV on! Seriously the lazy git stayed in bed and send dn up into my room to dry me to come downstairs to put in the TV Angry.
Sadly my 3 month old was woken by this and woke everyone else up too Confused

Cashews are counted as a nut but pine nuts are not. Allergy uk seems to say most people with nut allergies can eat seeds which is what pine nuts and coconuts are counted as

Blarblarblar · 02/01/2016 16:56

WOW!!!! WTF. No words of support just amazed anyone could be so thoughtless, rude and entitled.

Pipbin · 02/01/2016 16:59

What the actual fuck?
Can you take your brother to one side and ask him what the hell he is doing being married to her?

She doesn't want to park in the street? Fuck of then.

DecaffCoffeeAndRollupsPlease · 02/01/2016 17:03

Not really relevant but pesto pasta reminds me of pizza pasta... missing an "and" or "with".

thebestfurchinchilla · 02/01/2016 17:04

Ok dementedpixie I will take your advice and not the consultant allergist at my hospital.....Hmm

OP just never, ever let her stay again!

dementedpixie · 02/01/2016 17:30

Sorry was just pointing out that despite their name they aren't nuts

MudCity · 02/01/2016 17:41

Don't invite her again. Is your brother not saying anything? I'm damn sure my DH would intervene if I was rude to his family.

PuntasticUsername · 02/01/2016 17:59

Pesto is very easy to make - just blend tons of basil, olive oil, parmesan and black pepper, add pine nuts/cashews if you want, or leave out if you don't.

Back on topic - Shock at the SIL, how rude!

rainbowstardrops · 02/01/2016 18:27

Wtf OP???? She is either a self-entitled loon or she doesn't like visiting and is trying to push you.

What an absolute numpty. Make this the last visit Grin

TheSkiingGardener · 02/01/2016 18:29

Throw her out. Seriously what a horrible woman.

ovenchips · 02/01/2016 18:58

Shock She has some brass neck.

I wish I could fast forward you to end of visit. On the upside, I can say (from experience) you will live off your rage and indignation for weeks to come in a somehow enjoyable way (assuming that your DH will be a willing audience).Grin

Then it will enter your family folklore forever after as the weekend your SIL came to stay and turned up a day early.

Coldlightofday · 02/01/2016 19:16

How long are they staying for OP?

I reckon we can have some fun with her....

My DS loves pasta pesto "more than mummy", as he informed me at lunchtime today, 😍

Bunbaker · 02/01/2016 19:23

YABU to add cream. Pasta and pesto with a side salad is good of the gods as far as I'm concerned. Although I can totally understand that some people don't like pesto.

Littleredhouse · 02/01/2016 20:27

She sounds unbelievably rude, but I do think the brother should take some of the blame here. Why didn't he shut her down straight away when he heard her criticisms of you and how you do things? Most normal people would be mortified to witness their partners behaving like that. Also he must've heard her send dn to your room this morning and should have been getting up immediately to stop it.

carabos · 02/01/2016 20:56

Can we back up to the owl bedding please? How are owls gender specific and which gender are they specific to?

witsender · 02/01/2016 20:59

Pine nuts are not nuts. Neither are coconuts.
