Aibu to ask you to spare a thought for those who are flooded.

We have lots of localised floods that are stopping our plans to visit family today.
A small problem compared to those having to leave their homes and the poor kids who can't just play with their toys.

Please check AA route planner if you are in NW as there are many routes and areas with closed roads. Our trip was only 5 miles but no way can we find a way through.

East Lancs is closed and M6 has part closures.

We're not far up the road but fortunately far enough away from the rivers to have stayed dry. Lots of people around Bury / Salford / Manchester posting pictures on my Facebook today though and quite a few unfortunately having to be evacuated.

Footbridge collapsing and gas explosion in Radcliffe - about 3 mins in

I'm just in between Littleborough and Todmorden. My sister is with us and doesn't know if her house in Hebden Bridge is affected as she couldn't get back earlier Looks ok from the outside according to friends but no idea what might have happened at the back or water coming through the floor. We've had a bit of a cry about it. Sowerby is devastated too and the images from Rochdale town centre are unbelievable. My dd and I were just in the library on Tuesday and now it's ruined.

We're dry but the road outside is starting to collapse from the amount of water.

Anybody who can safely get to Littleborough and wishes to help the meeting place is the Wheatsheaf pub from 9am. Bring wellies, brushes, rubber gloves, disinfectant and black bags.

I'm originally from Radcliffe and it's been so sad today watching the updates on fb by friends and the local group page. The parish church where I was christened and my parents where married is flooded and bridges have been washed away. Must be devastating for those whose homes are affected. Sad

We're in central York - just outside the walls, Notting Hill of the North area. I can't believe how quickly the Foss has risen. I was out for a walk in town today, the Ouse was ferocious under Skeldergate bridge, seriously think it might be impassable by tomorrow. Have also looked at Environment Agency maps and am feeling slightly on edge.

I'm too far away to come and give any practical or physical help but I've got the refund on my Christmas gift from DH now and have donated some to the Red Cross as recommended on here. If anyone knows of any local support groups where the money won't be eaten up with salaries of Chief Executives etc please do let me know.
I hope everyone keeps safe and well and that this is over for you all ASAP.

Can anyone in Harrogate tell me if there are floods near the town centre, off the A61?

I've got a close relative there and we've not heard from them across Xmas, which is unusual. There're lots of possible reasons why not but I'm a bit worried that they might have been affected by floods?

Are phone lines and internet affected there?

Haworth is in two parts isn't it, one at the top and one at the bottom of the hill? Despite it not being fat it's years since I've been there.

We are in prestwich so have missed the flooding but there are so many people close by who have been affected. And unfortunately, according to Facebook posts on local pages, a lot of people with no contents insurance.

I've just a plea (primarily aimed at the NW, but probably a good thing generally) for people to save power by turning off their Christmas lights and limiting use of non-essential small devices.

Not sure why that's a good thing (hoping a well informed poster will pop up and explain) but it's something anyone in the regions affected could do.

i am in Ramsbottom up peel brow. We were totally flooded in all directions yesterday and today have been left with horrendous damage. People around here have really come together to help those in need, lovely to know that neighbourly spirit is still alive.

Just seen footage of a minibus being washed along by the floodwater in Hebden Bridge. It's so bloody powerful and destructive.

There's a video of a lorry or something crashing into a bridge somewhere.
Also seen a lot of stupid people on today's videos. Don't go in the water to ride bikes or take pics. Just causes problems for the emergency service who are stretched enough. A policeman died in Cumbria in 2009 protecting the public.
