Aibu to ask you to spare a thought for those who are flooded.

We have lots of localised floods that are stopping our plans to visit family today.
A small problem compared to those having to leave their homes and the poor kids who can't just play with their toys.

Please check AA route planner if you are in NW as there are many routes and areas with closed roads. Our trip was only 5 miles but no way can we find a way through.

East Lancs is closed and M6 has part closures.

It isn't just the NW that is flooded.

It is hitting many areas all over the country.

I hope you're OK, this time around hidden. The number of warnings around the area is worrying.

FelixFelix I was meant to be getting a train to manchester tomorrow - who knows if I can get out of baildon or if the trains are running.. hebden is really bad and my train is meant to go through there. no info on national rail so assume it's not running as a precaution. I'm right near the moor edge so luckily nothing will happen but the flooding near the bridge and coach road is awful :(

tartan my friend in Hudds and BiL near there messaged me this morning to find out if we are ok, so it seems not too bad over that way.

It is truly dreadful and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. Although I do hope the posters who come on any military thread to call our service personnel thugs and murderers, are changing their attitude towards the men and women deployed over Christmas to help others....

Ferries are running to Ireland from Holyhead, doubt many are on then with the A55 closed in both directions just past Conwy.
Flooding in Beaumaris too, the moat has overflowed and is running down the main road.
Flooding in our village (and also friends house is under in a nearby village), not sure if any houses here are under, there are cones up shutting the road, and I hope Ds can figure out the way home around the country lanes uphill.
St Asaph is under severe warning, the river is over in a few spots no houses yet last I checked

I'm due to drive up to Baildon early tomorrow (from South east) for a wedding at Hollis Hall. Any of you who are from there think it's likely we can there?

Report
TruJay · 26/12/2015 19:15

bramble it's probably best to go through Leeds then Guisely and avoid Baildon altogether

bramble16 · 26/12/2015 19:17

Thanks TruJay fingers crossed it's OK.

Baildon is pretty bad at the bottom, coming from the south but with the rain due to stop soon, it might drain away quickly and change things. Not sure how it will act, last time it was like this was 2000.

Kitten, re your weather alerts, Windy Wilson on FB is talking about a weather bomb Tue/Wed - he's mostly Scotland - do you know anything about that?

bramble I'd check before you set off tomorrow. Currently the A65 in Guiseley is at least partially blocked by water.

Leeds City Centre is flooding. It would be best to check weather, Environment Agency and local BBC websites before travelling anywhere in West Yorks.

I work for the Environment Agency and will be working tomorrow, we have had people working since last night.

I'm west Lancashire, lots of localised flooding here in the town I am in and at least 3 local villages pretty much cut off I have friends in each who have houses at risk of flooding at the moment. I am berg greatful to live halfway up a 'hill' now and with a raised door step so should be safe thankfully.

More rain coming down now.

And one Facebook page I saw people were most concerned about if taxis would be running to the town centre for people going out for Boxing night ! Hmm

Does anybody know the best way to offer a little financial help to those worse affected?
I asked DH for the receipt for my main Christmas present. I like it, a lot, but I don't need it so I'm going to take it back for a refund and I'd like to use the money to help somebody affected by the floods but I don't know how.

How many homes are affected?

One is one too many, however I really dislike them being used as a political point scoring. Ibknow in somerset 2 years ago, loads of people were going on about the people of somerset flooded, even when it was less than 100 homes flooded

Hope you all get somewhere, warm and safe tonight. As long as you have your health everything else can be sorted Flowers

Keep an eye on your local media, McKenzie - after the floods in Cumbria, the other week, Arriva Northeast were collecting clothes, toys etc to distribute from one of their depots.

Report
ouryve · 26/12/2015 19:37

That's 100 families losing their homes and belongings, plus many people losing their businesses, Dyslexic

And there's currently 3500 homes under threat in York. Is that enough to satisfy you?Hmm

The police are beginning to sound a little tetchy in places. But seem to have two messages:

a) avoid an area means avoid it, not come sightseeing (WTAF! Goodness only knows what's been going on that they felt the need to say that)
b) respect all 'road closed' signs and do not attempt to go through whatever the circumstances.
