to think cooking two fillets of fish for one person is a bit much?

I'm going out. Spouse is cooking two salmon fillets for himself. I think it's a bit greedy and he should either have just one - or save the packet for a night when we're both in.

Leave him to eat what he wants. If my partner tried to tell me what I should/shouldn't eat I would rightfully tell him where to go.

Do you normally ration food? I mean - can you genuinely not afford for him to eat both, or is it just that you think it is unnecessary?

Wow OH is cooking his own tea? It that was my husband I would have commended his efforts, if I go out you can usually guarantee the takeaway menus come straight out 😁

If you were absolutely skint and him eating both would mean you going without a meal then yes, but otherwise I'm a bit ConfusedHmm .

It's not up to you what he eats, or to decide how much is enough for him.

I could eat both certainly . Unless you can't afford for him to eat both , and have plans for the other one , I'd let him get on with it.

My DH usually eats two salmon fillets if there's a packet of two in the fridge and I'm going out - they're quite light, aren't they? He definitely wouldn't leave one. But if we're both in we'd split the pack.

Additional context. I was making a cup of tea while he was cooking. He flicked the switch of the just beginning to boil kettle saying letting it carry on boiling was wasteful.

Also though we're not vegetarian, there's a general idea that we try and eat a fair amount of veggie food and rather than having meat/fish every day. Often when we do eat meat etc it would be in fairly small quantities as part of a stir fry. Or on the rare occasions when we eat steak, we'd buy an 8 oz steak, but share it between us.

Depends on the size really. If it is the small packet (about £3,50ish) with two salmon strips then I think YABU.

Depends how big they are. Some salmon fillets are tiny ive had 2 before and im not a big girl or huge eater. If u hve no budget for rest of week wasteful otherwise i wouldnt give it a second thought.

But salmon fillets are so tiny now. I swear about 10 years ago they were double the size.

It's all well and good cutting meat consumption...fair play. But dictating what he can and can't eat is taking it too far.

I'm afraid your additional context doesn't enlighten me further! All I can think is that you have an ethical issue with eating a large portion of fish/ meat? But still don't know how it relates to what your husband is cooking for himself?!

If you are treating yourself for dinner out why cant have have his two bits of fish?
You'd have had a fit if you were here the day I came back from the chip shop and I thought I had a beautiful bit of fish.... Turned out to be TWO! I don't know how they did it to this day, but there was a wahay!! And the other bit was thrown onto my husbands plate. He got my company AND two bits of fish. He's a lucky man!!

Fish doesn't stay fresh for long, maybe he wanted to use it before it turned?

He was being a twat about the kettle, and I agree it's totally unnecessary to eat two filets. A portion of meat is meant to be the size of a deck of cards.

But then again, is it really that big a deal? Does he whinge about gaining weight or something? Will you be missing a meal because of it?

It's totally unnecessary and greedy for me to have a second line of chocolate in the evenings, but I would be pretty Hmm if my partner tried to "ration" it.

I think that is a lot -that's my opinion on food portions - none of my business he can eat whatever he likes obviously - but personally, if I ate fish, I would consider that a very large portion.

He has nothing else on the plate - no veg - just a big chunk of protein, again IMO that is not a balanced meal.

Usual confusion on here about someone saying 'I think this' being interpreted as 'I wrestled it off his plate and told him he could never eat anything again without my permission (I am a total control freak obviously)'

I don't actually give a rats ass if my X eats an entire raw cow for breakfast, but IMO that would be a protein heavy meal.

If you rarely eat meat/fish and limit quantities to the point of routinely sharing a single portion between two, perhaps he fancies a bit extra tonight?

You're such a miser! I love fish and happily eat a whole trout and the salmon fillets in packets are tiny so yes I'd eat 2
