to think cooking two fillets of fish for one person is a bit much?

I'm going out. Spouse is cooking two salmon fillets for himself. I think it's a bit greedy and he should either have just one - or save the packet for a night when we're both in.

I would starve round yours.

But you probably aren't busting out of your Spanx so as you were! Grin

BabyGanoush · 01/12/2015 18:58

but the pieces are tiny

I could eat 2 easily

Ridingthegravytrain · 01/12/2015 19:06

Yabu. We had this for dinner. I had one, DH had 2. But if we had only had veg instead of a jacket potato I would have easily had 2 and
Regularly do

You would be aghast if you knew how much steak we share!

Djelibeyb · 01/12/2015 19:10

This is mumsnet doesn't 2 bits of fish feed a family of 5 for 3 days???

lorelei9 · 01/12/2015 19:15

um, if he's hungry and needs it, what's the problem? is that you'd rather he filled up on something cheaper?

GoblinLittleOwl · 01/12/2015 19:15

I don't think two salmon fillets for a grown man is excessive.

toffeeboffin · 01/12/2015 19:18

LTB.

firesidechat · 01/12/2015 19:21

Share an 8oz steak!

You've now lost the argument and yes YABU.

confusedandemployed · 01/12/2015 19:23

Wow. Puritanism is alive and we'll and living on MN.

Jibberjabberjooo · 01/12/2015 19:24

He's probably starving.

SaucyJack · 01/12/2015 19:24

Depends on your budget.

Fresh salmon is bloody expensive, and if it's a bit of a luxury then agree it's greedy to scoff the lot.

I don't think it's too much food though.

firesidechat · 01/12/2015 19:26

Those salmon fillets are a bit tiddly. I couldn't eat two but one is always slightly too small. Never knowingly under catered in this house though, as Nigella would say.

Eminybob · 01/12/2015 19:27

I would happily eat 2 but don't as I'm counting calories at the moment.

My 16 month old DS would quite happily have one to himself so I don't think it's unreasonable for a grown man to have 2.

RoseWithoutAThorn · 01/12/2015 19:29

Some salmon fillets are tiny and are often little little fingers of salmon. YABU. I can easily eat 2 with veg. It's not uncommon for DH and DS to eat a side of salmon between them in our house.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 01/12/2015 19:29

Pah. Jesus managed to feed the 5000.

OK admittedly he had some bread as well but...

LikeASoulWithoutAMind · 01/12/2015 19:31

Yes I think two is unnecessary.

Is it only me who's struggling to reconcile this thread with the ones where everyone feeds a family of four for £50 a week?

MiniCooperLover · 01/12/2015 19:32

Salmon is healthy and fillets are tiny so frankly I think go for it !!!!

patterkiller · 01/12/2015 19:32

My DH would divorce me if I suggested sharing an 8oz steak.

TurnOffTheTv · 01/12/2015 19:37

If they are ginormo-fillets from the fishmonger then maybe slightly greedy. But the tesco ones I but pre packaged are only 180g which I don't think is an outrageous amount of protein for one meal. Depends what he's having with it.
And eating a 100g of steak for dinner is just bonkers.

SanityClause · 01/12/2015 19:42

I think it's greedy. DH would do this, although TBF, not with salmon, because he doesn't like it, but he might have a big meat feast if I went out, and assuage his guilt by having some cherry tomatoes with it. (I probably wouldn't comment, except maybe in an eyeroll-y joking kind of way.

I would be annoyed at the kettle thing, too. The water is not properly boiling until it switches off, so it's not hot enough to make the tea properly.

I think I would have made a comment, in your shoes, about it being a bit rich that he is calling me wasteful, when he's scoffing down two pieces of salmon. And we would share an 8oz steak, too. That's over 100gm of meat each, which is loads.

carabos · 01/12/2015 19:43

Djelybeyb I think you'll find that you can in fact feed 5000 people with 5 loaves and 2 fishes, so on that basis the OP's DH is being very greedy indeed Grin.

ouryve · 01/12/2015 19:44

Depends how big the fillets are. If they're those tiny ones you buy in the freezer section, then 2 is probably reasonable for a hungry man.

Queenbean · 01/12/2015 19:47

Sharing an 8oz steak????

Shock
ouryve · 01/12/2015 19:47

And I must be odd because I think 4oz of steak is a reasonable portion for everyday. Bigger is nicer if it's nice steak and for a special meal, but 4oz is a pretty average sensible portion of meat, containing 20-30g of protein.

APlaceOnTheCouch · 01/12/2015 19:48

My DS is 6 and teeny, tiny but can easily eat two salmon fillets (if it is those ones you get in a pack from Tesco). So I think YABU to think it's too much for an adult man. I also think YABU to even spend time thinking about how much fish your DH eats. He's an adult.
