Aibu to think you don't put your tree up in November?

I've just seen my first Christmas tree post on Facebook. WTF! It's November.

It was hard to stop myself from putting a sarcastic pithy comment on their post. Trees should not be decorated until December, although it's OK in shops/restaurants once Hallowe'en is out of the way.

Anyway, it looks like a real one. I'll have the last laugh when all her needles fall off by the time I get mine up (the week before Christmas, like any sane person).

My ex-SIL put hers up at the beginning of October. She goes to Poundland every Thursday and buys a load of stuff to wrap up and put under the damn tree so her kids can have some presents to open every weekend between then and Christmas. Then between Christmas Eve and New Year's Day, hey have presents every day as well.

I do find it a bit sad that Christmas is the only thing she has in her life.

We put ours up mid December.

TalcAndTurnips · 29/11/2015 19:44

I had friends that used to leave theirs up from one year to the next. They'd take the glittery baubly shite off it and just spend the next few months pretending it was normal to have a Norway Spruce in the front room.

After a while it was a dried up nudey kind of twig thing. Then it got lobbed into the front garden, where it would join its skeletal friends from years gone by. This was usually around November.

I have no idea if they still do it. The shag pile must have been crunchy underfoot - I doubt if they ever hoovered as they weren't into that kind of thing.

Goes up on Christmas Eve, comes down on 6th January. One of my DC, now she has a home & family of her own, says this was virtually child abuse. Hers is probably up by now.

annielouise · 29/11/2015 19:44

Ours go up the first weekend after school breaks up so around the 19th/20th this year and I'll take them down the weekend before school starts again so would that be 3rd January. I like the feeling they're up when we're off school and work. Only slightly longer than the 12 days of Christmas. Can't stand it all starting too early. I'd be fed up of it starting in November. I think that's weird to be honest but each to their own. Also think it's strange the coming down Boxing Day. It's still the Xmas period to me. I can't remember growing up people starting Christmas so early.

YANBU.

No reason to have it up yet.

CheesyWeez · 29/11/2015 19:47

Blended families have to get theirs up early so all the kids can help decorate. Kids might come EOW but what with school concerts and so on it's not always easy to get everyone together in December all at the same time and for long enough to do it! And the Chrimmy holidays are early this year, making December shorter still...

coffeeisnectar · 29/11/2015 19:47

We've put the fairy lights up in the Windows but trees not going up til next weekend so the cats have a full month of tree killing available to them. Be mean not to.

Ours went up on Friday. It usually goes up on the 1st, but DH was working very long shifts every day apart from Friday and I wanted to do it together. It will stay up until the twelfth night.

I don't care if anyone thinks it's too early, I love having the tree up and I'm not expecting the Grinch to visit anyway. [santa]

MardyBra · 29/11/2015 19:49

Oh I love it Huck.

Am I mean enough to post it on my FB feed though?

Mine went up today.

It usually goes up in the middle of Dec. However, we got some lovely new decorations and then we got our tree (in a pot) and the kids wanted to put it up so we did.

But really why does it bother you. It's not your home or business, can't understand why it gets to you enough to come write a post. Just leave other people be.

Owllady · 29/11/2015 19:51

There is a house in margate that has christmas decorations up all year round

Dionysuss · 29/11/2015 19:51

We bought ours today. I have a live potted one, they tend to last longer for us, although we have never been successful in keeping one alive to use again the following year.

Traditionally it goes up on Dec 1st, but having dh with us makes it much easier to stuff in the car. It's in the garden currently, will be decorated Tuesday until it's evicted on January 1st.z

ghostyslovesheep · 29/11/2015 19:52

'blended family' here - ours goes up 2 weeks before Christmas - so planning on putting it up on the 11th

real tree so it dies quick

YANBU I don't get it - but everyone is different

MardyBra · 29/11/2015 19:53

"But really why does it bother you."

Because this is aibu. A place to come for some friendly banter and sharing of opinions. Smile

We did ours today. I wouldn't have usually done it until next week but were busy then and we like to do it when DSS is here to join in too. Also ours comes down the day after Boxing Day ready for our youngest DD's birthday so I wanted to make the must if having it up I must say though I feel it's too early but hey ho! Or ho ho!

Itscliffmas · 29/11/2015 19:54

Mine is going up tomorrow, I have limited free time between now and Christmas so need to start ticking off the the to do list.
Plus it is illegal to write Christmas cards or wrap presents without being in front of a fabulous tree watching an old school Christmas movie.
Plus my tree always looks fabulous and I like to look at it.
Plus my friend refuses to come for dinner Tuesday unless I have a tree.
Plus YABU it's none of your business who puts up their tree before December Xmas Grin

CalleighDoodle · 29/11/2015 19:54

I was also going to chime in with it is the first day of advent today.

specialsubject · 29/11/2015 19:57

the town one has been up for a week. The ghastly decorations have been in the way in the village co-op since halloween.

I might do it on Dec 21 to celebrate the end of the downhill spiral, and then keep it until Jan 6th which is I believe traditional.
