Aibu to think you don't put your tree up in November?

I've just seen my first Christmas tree post on Facebook. WTF! It's November.

It was hard to stop myself from putting a sarcastic pithy comment on their post. Trees should not be decorated until December, although it's OK in shops/restaurants once Hallowe'en is out of the way.

Anyway, it looks like a real one. I'll have the last laugh when all her needles fall off by the time I get mine up (the week before Christmas, like any sane person).

my bastard neighbours have put theirs up in the garden and its flashing lights are doing my head in already. I may kill them!

ProcrastinatorGeneral · 29/11/2015 19:15

It makes me cringe, but I don't like Christmas much at all.

We might do ours next weekend but it's more likely to be the week after.

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 29/11/2015 19:15

Yanbu. The neighbour's opposite have their tacky tree up and lights in their front downstairs window.

I think I might find it more offensive than the sight of his hairy arse as seen in the upstairs window.

TheMasterMurderedMargarita · 29/11/2015 19:16

I'm with you OP. 12 days before and as soon as I can get away with after the Dec's come down.
I do love Christmas but this whole hyping up to fever pitch from mid-September does my nut in. It takes away the magic.

StellaAlpina · 29/11/2015 19:16

It's the first Sunday of Advent today, to me it seems a less arbitary date than the first of December.

We haven't put ours up yet, but when we do it'll stay up until epiphany on the 6th of January.

I see Advent and Christmas as a season though rather than just a day.

Similiarly, to me 'Easter' starts with Lent.

Toffeelatteplease · 29/11/2015 19:17

Hehehe! Mines up. It felt the right timing Grin[santa]Grin

"I do love Christmas but this whole hyping up to fever pitch from mid-September does my nut in. It takes away the magic."

My feelings exactly.

I saw the first fully decorated house on November 4th!! Ours will be going up on 20th December. We always put it up after school's broken up.The children know they can get really excited then because Christmas is just around the corner.

TheMasterMurderedMargarita · 29/11/2015 19:18

At least it wasn't his JingleBalls MovingOnUp Grin

AnnaMarlowe · 29/11/2015 19:19

Other people are completely entitled to put their trees up in June if it makes them happy.

Personally we put ours up the weekend before Christmas though.

My rule is that Christmas decorations should never need dusting.

I do get a teeny bit peeved with people who put them up in November and then take them down on Boxing day because they are 'bored' though. All things have a proper season.

Mine went up yesterday, it's such a faff doing it that I intent to enjoy my decorations for a long time Grinplus kids love them. What I never understood were the people who put their tree up on Christmas Eve Hmm

MardyBra · 29/11/2015 19:21

Yep usual. People can do what they like in their houses.

But this wouldn't be MN if nobody was judging them. Grin

Isn't the trouble with people putting Christmas decorations up " early" is that it becomes a thing. Then we all get dragged into a month of doing Christmas. It's becomes increasingly expensive, stressful and dragged out every year.

The Christmas spirit is getting lost. It's supposed to be a time of warmth, love and a few days rest.

crookedhooker · 29/11/2015 19:23

There has been three up in my street since 1st November, they'll all be down by Boxing Day evening.

sooperdooper · 29/11/2015 19:24

A few near me have been up for a couple of weeks Confused

Meh, people can do what they want but I maintain the right to be bah humbug about decorations being up before December

PoorFannyRobin · 29/11/2015 19:24

For years, we put up our Christmas tree on Thanksgiving afternoon (always the last Thursday in November) -- actually began doing this at the initial request of one of the children. It was a wonderful tradition and I really miss it now that my children are grown and in their own homes.

Stoppressingrepeat · 29/11/2015 19:25

YABU

If I weren't stuck in hospital mine would be up. Our tradition is to buy it at garden centre day we go to santa. Only weekend santa could do as tickets sold out super fast back in September hours after going online was yesterday.

Ours isn't up. Because I'm in hospital they've left that bit for when I come home now.

But it's nobody else's business and tbh who cares or judges a symbol of cheer and festivities in someone else's home?? Some people it makes a difference to when other stuff is bleak

openthecurtains · 29/11/2015 19:25

Another one here who always puts the tree up on Advent Sunday. Official start of the season for me.

nc060 · 29/11/2015 19:25

You also have no idea what people's personal reasons are. My cousin put hers up on the 24th as she does every year. It's the anniversary of her brothers passing and to her she feels a connection as he was in P7 when he passed and loved Christmas! You are being horrible

Florin · 29/11/2015 19:25

I don't really care about other people opinions. Husband has been off this week and ours went off Friday-love the Christmassy feeling.

DurhamDurham · 29/11/2015 19:26

Mine never goes up before the 20th Dec and it's down as soon I can persuade the rest of the family. I like Christmas trees and I love Christmas but I like to enjoy it for a very specific amount of time Grin

MardyBra · 29/11/2015 19:26

"You are being horrible"

Really? Got to love aibu these days. Hmm

We put ours up on the 11th of November. I don't give a shit what people think. Me, DH and DS adore christmas and can't get enough of it! Watched about 15 christmas movies already...

HungryHorace · 29/11/2015 19:28

We did ours today. 2 year old DD was so excited to help with decorating it!

We're busy the next couple of weekends, so today was perfect (especially as the weather is appalling and we weren't going to go out anywhere). It's almost December, so it's good enough for me!
