Aibu to think you don't put your tree up in November?

I've just seen my first Christmas tree post on Facebook. WTF! It's November.

It was hard to stop myself from putting a sarcastic pithy comment on their post. Trees should not be decorated until December, although it's OK in shops/restaurants once Hallowe'en is out of the way.

Anyway, it looks like a real one. I'll have the last laugh when all her needles fall off by the time I get mine up (the week before Christmas, like any sane person).

Did ours today. Always do it on advent Sunday. It takes bloody ages so the longer it is up the better.

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 29/11/2015 19:35

Usual I can't look out the dc's bedroom windows without getting an eyeful though

I'm being flashed Christmassed against my will Shock

MardyBra · 29/11/2015 19:36

You see, I'm of the "keep them up until the 6th Jan" old-school mentality.

Ours went up today. Couldn't give a shit what others think but find it a bit odd that anyone would care one way or the other.

I wasn't aware that there was this unwritten rule that you're "supposed" to wait until December. Why shouldn't people just do what makes them happy, whether that's putting the tree up in November, waiting until the last minute or not bothering with a tree at all?

atreya · 29/11/2015 19:39

We've put one up on our business premises this weekend, but I think that's different. At home it won't go up until almost, actually...Christmas

Sparklingbrook · 29/11/2015 19:39

It's too early for me personally. DS2 does a paper round and one house had had their wreath on the door since the first week of November.

Our tree goes up on 23rd and comes down 27th ish. Not a fan but it works for me.

CelestiaLuna · 29/11/2015 19:39

Me too OP, as I said I like to get full value for my efforts Wink

I agree mine will go up next Sunday but my sister has had hers up for nearly 2 weeks! Shock

MyCatColin · 29/11/2015 19:41

Have seen loads over this weekend, am assuming though because this is the nearest weekend to the 1st of December then people are doing it now as it's only 2 days away so not mega early.
I usually do mine on the 1st but cannot be bloody bothered, so may think about it next weekend.

My neighbours put theirs up the weekend after bonfire night!!!

sparkofnaturesfire · 29/11/2015 19:41

I can't wait to put mine up. We've went all out this year on a new tree and decorations after threatening it for years.

Because of our shifts though it'll be Tuesday night.

DP wanted to do it last week but I thought that was a bit much. I don't judge when others put theirs up though!

Last year it came down on the 27th because I was absolutely sick of it by then but only because of all the STUFF DS got, I needed some semblance of order back in the house.

atreya · 29/11/2015 19:41

We take them down by Twelfth Night in Jan. Most of those we know who had their decorations up on 1st Dec were sick of them by Boxing Day and had them down by New Year.

OverScentedFanjo · 29/11/2015 19:41

I think around the 16th onwards is ok, better to leave it nearer imo. Leave it up until twelfth night.

All these November people will have it down by Boxing Day saying they are fed up with it.

VestalVirgin · 29/11/2015 19:41

We always put it up on the 24., though we buy it a week or two before that and store it outside.

I don't know, to me, it would make Christmas less special if the tree was there all the time.

I have no idea how the people who put it up this weekend cope with the needles falling off - which I suppose is bound to happen after four weeks in a warm room.

Better have it nice and fresh on Christmas. If it throws some needles close to 6th January, that's not so bad, but on Christmas day? Confused

EllieJayJay · 29/11/2015 19:42

Early November is a bit exessive but Sunday before the first seems totally reasonable to me!

I love Christmas too!!!

insan1tyscartching · 29/11/2015 19:42

A couple of my neighbours have had theirs up for a month now. I hate all aspects of Christmas so try and prevent dh from putting ours up before the 18th. I can't wait until dd is grown up because then I'lldo away with the tree altogether.

M48294Y · 29/11/2015 19:42

Yanbu. It's not a crime, of course not. However it is little bit daft and childish. I always think people who get over-excited about Christmas must live rather quiet lives with little going on.

EllieJayJay · 29/11/2015 19:42

I've had real trees before and needles do drop but always lasts until after Christmas just need to water him daily :)
