Aibu to think you don't put your tree up in November?

I've just seen my first Christmas tree post on Facebook. WTF! It's November.

It was hard to stop myself from putting a sarcastic pithy comment on their post. Trees should not be decorated until December, although it's OK in shops/restaurants once Hallowe'en is out of the way.

Anyway, it looks like a real one. I'll have the last laugh when all her needles fall off by the time I get mine up (the week before Christmas, like any sane person).

I wasnt at all offended waggle ! I was more just contemplating the difference between people like me who are moth-like through the darker months,
and those who like to have their decorations up and down faster than pants in a draughty loo.

Xmas Grin For us it's definitely the real tree thing and the practical side of that. Maybe we'd be different if it was a faux one. I can see the appeal of lots of sparkle and colour but then I have fairy lights all year anyway. I did put extra ones out in October though. I can see both sides definitely.

That sounds very nice, 665. They're probably quite cheery at this time of year, too.

skyeskyeskye · 03/12/2015 12:24

I put mine up on the weekend before Christmas, so 19th this year and it stays up til 12th night. DD is 7yo.

My friends SIL puts hers up on 1 December every year and takes it down on Boxing Day because "Christmas is over then".

Christmas used to be a few days, now it seems to be a whole month!

What does annoy me is that on Boxing Day there are no Christmas songs on the TV music channels!

blobbityblob · 03/12/2015 13:05

I'd always been told it was unlucky to put your tree up before 12th night. Last year dd was bugging and bugging me to put it up, so I did on 1 December.

I'm not all superstitious at all but we've had so much bad luck this year.

So it's not going up for another couple of weeks yet, just to be on the safe side.

I saw this and immediately thought of this thread.

Do you think she's an MNer? Xmas Wink

UntilTheCowsComeHome · 03/12/2015 17:00

Mine went up on Monday.

DS2 is away all next week on a school trip and didn't want me to do it when he wasn't here to help.

Every weekend after that is taken up by work or football commitments and I work 6 out of 7 evenings so no time to do it then either.

It was a tiny bit earlier than I would have liked but there are at least 5 other houses on the estate with theirs up already.

Daisysbear · 03/12/2015 17:12

I'm not a fan of colour co ordinated Christmas trees or putting up the decorations in November, but that article by Rowan Pelling is as pretentious and boastful as the people she's sneering at.

atreya · 03/12/2015 17:15

Didn't think much of the blog author and her superior attitude to her neighbours and their trees. However, much did resonate. My granny would also have pursed her lips and called it common to put up a tree and decorations on 1st December. Grin

SauvignonBlanche · 03/12/2015 17:19

Roman Pellings' Granny sounds like the Dowager Lady Grantham!

Daisysbear · 03/12/2015 17:27

I wonder where she'd have stood on lit up reindeers on the lawn, and fluorescent santas on the roof Grin

SauvignonBlanche · 03/12/2015 17:32

I think it's safe to guess that would be seen as a fate worse than syphilis,
Daisysbear Xmas Wink
