Is this a thing now?

Is there really a need to be stockpiling food, medicines and creating a bolt hole?

Am i missing something? Seriously (this is not a light-hearted thread), i suffer from anxiety and this is really disturbing me.

Hopefully people have just been watching too much walking dead.

The freaky types are those threatening to shoot and stab preppers

Correction:- ONE non-prepper saying her boyfriend would shoot preppers to steal their supplies & ONE other poster (presumably at least semi-prepper) saying she'd stab anyone who tried that.

StrawberryTeaLeaf · 07/11/2015 23:42

scoffing at someone's anxiety is a bit off I think.

Agree.

OfaFrenchmind2 · 07/11/2015 23:44

StrawberryTeaLeaf Excuse YOU, a quarter-prepper please!

Sparklingbrook · 07/11/2015 23:45

I am going to hide this thread now, all the bolding of things people have said instead of their names is grating my carrot. CBA scrolling up and down to see who said what.

But Sparkling scrolling up to see what was said id exactly what you'd have to if only names were given Grin

StrawberryTeaLeaf · 07/11/2015 23:49

I'm working on a whole anthropological analysis usual Wink

PaulAnkaTheDog · 07/11/2015 23:49

I bet you can prep for prepping. Maybe even prep for the prep for prepping.

howtorebuild · 07/11/2015 23:49

Leave her to her coleslaw, she's only got cabbage and onions left.

Sparklingbrook · 07/11/2015 23:49

When the name's given you can go straight to the name. When it isn't you can't. Confused

gamerchick · 07/11/2015 23:50

Well to be an absolute none prepper you would do your shopping daily and only hold enough for that day.

If you have a packet of batteries in the cupboard then you're on your way anyway.

You are prepared for that battery changeover.

howtorebuild · 07/11/2015 23:52

Where do you stand on loo roll? Say you are half way through, would you be classed as a prepped if you bought more?

reni2 · 07/11/2015 23:52

But all that prepping just means one dies a few days later than the devil-may-care types, surely?

I've got wine and chocolate, usual, not a prepper either, but I'll have a happy last day at least.

gamerchick · 07/11/2015 23:58

Well that's why we have our own topic ... 1+1=2

We didn't bring it out into the open boards.

I'm fucked me.. Government building with one of those stupid electric key cards. My ankles would be chewed on faster than I could say open the doors you twats!

PaulAnkaTheDog · 08/11/2015 00:04

Where did this prepping fucking bollocks stuff come from? Is there a threat I have missed? Shall I stock up on caviar and salmon (I like to think I'd be a classy prepped).

I don't "prep" but if I had the money, I would probably have some stuff put away in attic, just in case. As it is we just about manage for everything from month to month. I always think that if terrorists bomb the power stations and we have no electric supply, the preppers will be the ones having the last laugh.

HemanOrSheRa · 08/11/2015 00:07

I hope LEM is ok.

I get freaked out by prepping on a personal level because, as a pp said, it makes me feel inadequate as a parent.

However, I work for a large Local Authority. We have plans in place for localised and citywide emergencies. There are hundreds of staff who train with the emergency services for these situations and they do work. So unless the entire population of the city is wiped out, rationally I know we'll be fine.

PaulAnkaTheDog · 08/11/2015 00:13

What's LEM?

wickedlazy · 08/11/2015 00:13

Hopefully after a few days the government would have got their arses in gear/have esome plan in action to distribute food and water wouldn't expect them to have a handle on things straight away

I've actually only noticed one prepper thread recently, about 2 weeks? Where do people post them?

"Aibu to anticipate a natural disaster/terrorist attack/outbreak of a contagious harmful disease may occur and put some water and beans and stuff aside to tide us over until government gets it's arse in gear?"
