Take a look at this article about supporting families of Transgender people by the Gires.org.uk Website to see why that view is so utterly incorrect and harmful?

Alis, my right-on, usually very feminist-leaning dh is also on that side. If we ever get divorced, our disagreements on it may be cited as a reason.

I get great pleasure out of calling him transphobic though, every time he innocently says something that would be pounced on elsewhere. Think i'm winning him round... Grin

QueenStromba · 09/11/2015 16:41

My DH is the same although I think he might be mostly playing devil's advocate these days.

changedmyname12345 · 09/11/2015 17:53

My DH too but we are discussing it!

Caitlyn Jenner Glamour Woman of the year 2015 interview on Buzzfeed

What’s the hardest part for you about being a woman?
The hardest part about being a woman is figuring out what to wear.

Oh me too Caitlyn, It's literally all I do all day.

FFS.

Cerseirys · 11/11/2015 12:24

Caitlyn isn't quite Woman of the Year. Glamour have about 15 Women of the Year this year and Caitlyn got their “Transgender Champion” award. It’s interesting that the comments about that on Buzzfeed (usually of the “she’s a woman if she says she is” variety) are actually quite critical.

Zucker Shock

A friend pointed me towards This Reddit thread where MTTs are talking about their transition as puberty.

"Puberty takes a while for cis girls too, you know?"

"Our bodies are going through a second puberty"

"Puberty isn't summer camp. It can take years for a girl to develop, as everyone is different."

How on earth is pumping oneself with artificial hormones to resemble the opposite sex "puberty"??? I fucking despair.

reni2 · 11/11/2015 14:47

To briefly come back to the op, of course nobody thinks trans women are "chicks with dicks", the word chick is not in many people everyday usage as a word for woman anyway. The majority on this thread seems to be trans women are not actually "chicks" or women at all. Certainly not female if equipped with a dick.

Within a few posts on that reddit thread I'm sat thinking "attention seeking drama llama" they don't want to transition otherwise they'd be bending over backwards to make it work

reni2 · 11/11/2015 16:14

I imagine many might mean "transition to sex bomb" when they say woman, much like Caitlyn Jenner did. After enduring "female puberty" very few will emerge as a young and sexy woman, if you are a middle aged, dumpy male, your feminized body won't look so different.

The fact that most women aren't like that either is neither here nor there for that reddit thread.

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 11/11/2015 16:27

I also think it's sad. Sex dysphoria should be treated psychologically (alongside hormones if appropriate) but hormones alone are never going to address the psychological distress. That poster has a completely unrealistic idea of what hormones will do to a male body. Their partner should have been counselled through that process and should know what can and cannot be achieved before starting! The fear that she will never "pass" and will then have to live as a man but with breasts - just shows how unprepared they were.

CallaLilli · 11/11/2015 16:34

I don’t get the Caitlyn Jenner love. I actually think she looks dreadful and like a “woman of a certain age” who’s had too much cosmetic surgery. If Jenner were an actual biological woman dressing like that and pouting on the cover of a magazine then I’m sure the knives would be out. FFS, look at all the grief Madonna gets for daring to not conform to society’s idea of what a woman in her fifties should look like.

QueenStromba · 11/11/2015 16:42

I think Jenner's facial feminisation surgery was pretty good actually - Jenner's face looks much better than before the op (a fucktonne of makeup might be helping though). But yes, society is still treating Jenner as male because no woman would get away with wearing that outfit on the cover of a magazine at their age. Meryl Streep is the exact same age - she'd be torn to shreds.

welshHairs · 11/11/2015 17:06

I've read a few times now that biological differences between the sex are no longer understood to be a fact, but an outdated social construct. This is a load of crap right?

I know that there are intersex conditions and chromosomes aren't always XX or XY, but surely for the majority of people you have either a penis and testicles, or a vulva, vagina, fallopian tubes etc...? These are biological facts are they not? Or has the thinking on this truly changed?

ShortcutButton · 11/11/2015 17:08

The sadness and empathy that i know I should feel, has been obliterated by the anger I feel at having womanhood misappropriated and erased by trans activists

ShortcutButton · 11/11/2015 17:09

Yes welsh, it is a load of crap

ShortcutButton · 11/11/2015 17:11

queen and photoshop

VestalVirgin · 11/11/2015 17:25

@reni2: The fact that most women aren't like that either is neither here nor there for that reddit thread.

Men are quite talented at ignoring women who don't conform to their beauty ideal. I mean, just look at those guys who eternally complain that women reject them and that women have it sooo good because they get to "choose" ... the fact that they also choose whom to approach doesn't even enter their mind. They ignore all "ugly" women to the point that those women might as well not exist.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 11/11/2015 18:14

I was feeling v sorry for the people on the reddit thread, thinking they've been sold a line by an unscrupulous hormone industry, until I got to the line about how if he can't be a beautiful woman he would rather be a handsome man. I mean, just, what? I thought people who transitioned were doing because they felt deep down inside that they were the opposite sex and couldn't be anything else. This makes it sound like a consumer choice.

ShortcutButton · 11/11/2015 19:52

The reddit thread is ridiculous really. He looks like a man, because he is a man. He is upset because he looks like a man and gets upset when people 'misgender' him

. People arent 'misgendering' him. People are correcrly identifying him as male sex

No one gives a fuck about 'gender'. Its made up!!

kua · 11/11/2015 21:07

I read the reddit page too. I genuinely feel sorry for him/ her as he/she obviously thought there was a magic pill that would solve all their issues. Clearly there is not.

ShortcutButton · 11/11/2015 21:28

But how did we arrive at the point, where in order to try to relieve that persons pain; the rest of society and the law must pretend, no not pretend but actually believe that the person is the opposite sex? Confused

EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs · 11/11/2015 21:29

Sophie Walker of WEP is on the other thread.

HairyLittleCarrot · 11/11/2015 21:31

Yes Sophie of the WEP is on the other thread, telling us that she has heard all our concerns.

And that a "woman" is anyone who wants to call themselves that.

I could weep.
