Ha, yes mellowheart, I do agree with all of the above! Wink However, she is still a human being with feelings and I don't think her recent rants about skinny-bashers have been wholly the usual publicity grabbing.

Are you sure it had nothing to do with her mainstream sucess both as part of a girl group and as a soloist, winning awards and breaking a record (female with most UK number 1 singles). Cheryl is beautiful but so are many other women, there's even some prettier than her, why didn't they get the job?

Cheryl is successful because she was chosen to be successful.

She found fame on a reality show. She then increased her fame by marrying and divorcing a fellow celebrity. She was then chosen by reality show svengali for further stardom on X Factor.

And that about sums it up.

Her career trajectory hasn't been one of jobbing musician who slogged her guts out on the circuit and made it through talent and sheer graft.

I've no problem with Cheryl Tweedy/Cole/Current-Surname making a career from her limited talents and a bit of chutzpah but I do roll my eyes when people spin it as though she's a talent in a million.

squoosh · 25/10/2015 01:43

Also, her number one hits came after she started as X Factor judge. So she definitely didn't get the job due to her solo success.

She hadn't had any.

thefutureofpolitics · 25/10/2015 01:45

Squoosh I'm not fatty-bashing anybody, it was simply a point that it used to be the fat people who got the rubbish and it has now become the thin people who get the rubbish. I called myself 'scrawny' for goodness sake, I think I bashed myself more than anybody else! And cretin?! That was a bit strong!!! I'm not the one looking for an argument in an otherwise pleasant chat room.

squoosh · 25/10/2015 01:49

I apologise for calling you a cretin.

thefutureofpolitics · 25/10/2015 01:57

Accepted. My first class honours degree and pending masters degree thanks you for the apology Wink

Roonerspism · 25/10/2015 02:38

I have never commented on any of these kinds of things before but....I was really shocked when I briefly saw her on X factor (which I don't even watch - was flicking through channels).

I was honestly shocked at how thin and ill she looked. She was such a beautiful woman before. What on earth has happened?

saltlakecity · 25/10/2015 07:54

A relative of mine is 6.5 stone. She is really healthy. She eats a lot, does exercise but not excessively. Don't assume skinny means ill. Everyone assumes she never eats chocolate etc. She does but prefers fruit, veg, pulse based meals.

F0xglove · 25/10/2015 08:45

I really don't think that things have changed so much that thin people are the ones getting the abuse now. That's clearly not true. Pretty much any young woman who ends up in front of the camera will be advised to lose 7lbs even if she already thought she was slim. It's that sleb world. You can't crack it if you're not fashionably slim. Medically slim is not going to cut it.

I wouldn't bash Cheryl, but I can see how the level of SLIMNESS expected from women is so unobtainable for most that if they have one vomiting bug, one cold, one week where they miss dinner and fall in to bed with low energy, those thin slebs with the enviable slimness have tipped over from enviable slimness in to 'wow, not a gram of fat to spare there'. It's such a fine line as it is!

F0xglove · 25/10/2015 08:49

Wrt heavier celebrities, I think that now, women with a healthy BMI of 23 or 24 will look 'fat' to our eyes because we are so unused to seeing a celebrity with such a high BMI

DinosaursRoar · 25/10/2015 08:54

Nope, Megan Trainor is fat, not that on any other thread I'd point that out, but if we are going to pretend that she's the best weight for her height, bollocks - she's had no children and is only 21, she should have a flat stomach - she clearly overeats for her body's needs.

Now, who here thinks she's decided that that body shape is the most attractive and has chosen to put on weight? Or has she overeaten due to a selection of factors, some out of her control?

Back to those who think Cheryl VF is too thin - she's mentioned she's lost weight due to her FIL dying and a crisis in her family so she's been driving between filming in London and Newcastle - she has come out and said she's lost weight through stress, because no, she's not surrounded by people telling her she looks fabulous, she's surrounded by people telling her the press says she's too thin.

Why the fuck does anyone think it's ok to body shame someone for losing or gaining weight after a death in the family? Would you say to someone who'd comfort ate after a beravement that they clearly have been doing it because they want the attention from looking bigger?

Some people gain weight in a time of crisis, some people lose it. I'm one of those who lose it, and as I said earlier, I had people tell me I was "lucky" when my dad had a stroke as I dropped a dress size. Of all the things I'd been focussing on at that time, my appearance wasn't one of them.

Well done those who eat a perfectly balance diet in times of family crisis. Have a gold star. The rest of us end up with disordered eating at disordered times, some will eat comforting crap and worry about the weight they gain later, some of us respond to stress by losing their appetite and forget to force themselves to eat.

DinosaursRoar · 25/10/2015 08:58

oh and with Cheryl, she actually looked bigger last night than she had done at the audition stages, which were filmed earlier in the year, she's clearly coming out the other side of the family crisis and slowly regaining the weight.

NoArmaniNoPunani · 25/10/2015 09:04

I had to google Meghan Trainor. Really? People think that's fat?

I wonder if OP will be back to confirm that she has jacked in her job as a teacher to retrain as a dietician...

Lurkedforever1 · 25/10/2015 09:28

I feel quite sorry for everyone body shaming cheryl or any other skinny. You must have real self esteem issues.

Bambambini · 25/10/2015 09:30

I was a bit taken a back when I saw a recent pic of her recently, she looked a lot thinner and drawn. It was quite a difference to how she had appeared in the past. A bit like VB who also seemed to be very thin now compared to her Spice Girl days. Maybe she is stressed or grieving, I hope it's not pressure of her trying to stay "young" and in mode. These people are often so pressurised to be thinner and thinner, it is a worrying trend and CC is watched by millions of young wannabes. Most young girls are desperate to look like Cheryl not Rebel Wilson.

Mistigri · 25/10/2015 09:31

That picture of Meghan Trainor makes her look at the top end of what might be considered a healthy weight range, but she's not fat.

Cheryl whatevershecallsherselfthesedays on the other hand has a BMI that is way under the healthy range (and I know what a healthy BMI looks like, thank you; I have a formerly borderline anorexic teenager whose BMI has just crept back above 18).

That shape might be just possibly be natural in a 16 year old catwalk model, but in a 30 something woman it's a sign of long-term and fairly drastic food restriction. Not a great role model frankly.

Mumoftwoyoungkids · 25/10/2015 09:39

I haven't seen this year's X-factor but I saw a picture of Cheryl in a magazine at the hairdresser yesterday. It did give me a bit of a shock as she does look extremely thin and a bit ill.

Summernights You mentioned Nicola from GA as an example that it wasn't about looks. Nicola was rejected from the original 10 (to be public voted on) as "her look wasn't right." Then they discovered that one of the ten was overage so we're deciding against her and Kimberly Walsh to put in. The basic debate was that Nicola was better but Kimberly was prettier. They put Kimberly in. Then another girl dropped out so Nicola got in. If I remember right she then got public voted in because she was young and cool (only about 16) and all the teenagers voted for her plus the British public always like an underdog.

Gorgeous Cheryl was always in the top 10. (And oh her first audition Pete Waterman raved afterwards about her looks for ages afterwards.)

sharonthewaspandthewineywall · 25/10/2015 09:39

So many idiotic posts from both sides of the discussion here I could weep.
When was the last time we had a thread discussing Simon Cowell's physique /looks? Scrutinising him for eating a few too many pies or working out too hard at the gym? Oh yeh thats right- never. Lets save the hating body shaming for us women eh?

Marshy · 25/10/2015 09:40

It's dietitian people - tit not tic.

I wouldn't be accepting advice from a professional who didn't know how to spell their title Hmm.

The title of dietitian is protected by law and can only be used by those registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) which has exacting requirements for registration.

AyeAmarok · 25/10/2015 09:44

I hate these threads.

She doesn't look ill. She looks a hell of a lot healthier that the vast majority of the population.

Women should be slim and toned. That is what is healthy. In our overweight and bitter world we've lost sight of that, in order to put everyone who isn't fat down.

And agree with the previous poster who said that "role-models" begin at home. It's better they want to be slim and healthy than overweight or obese.

TheFairyCaravan · 25/10/2015 09:46

Just because Cheryl was bigger 15 years ago doesn't mean she finds it easy to put on weigh now. I was at least a stone, maybe a stone and a half heavier, than I am now when I was in my late teens. I cannot get back to that weight regardless of what I eat, I haven't been able to since I had my children. Everyone is different.

Meghan Trainor is reporedtly the same height as me but 20kg heavier, she must dress really cleverly because I can't see it.

Nishky · 25/10/2015 09:48

I may have missed the point of the thread, but someone quoted Simon Cowell as 'proof' that she was hired for talent.

Please please tell me that ironic.

Lurkedforever1 · 25/10/2015 09:53

Lets be just as blunt about meghan T though. Someone that young should not be at the top end of a healthy weight range. So no, for a 21yr old she isn't a healthy size.
And where can I find the research saying anyone in their 30's with the same shape as a 16yr old model can only be like that through drastic food restriction?
