Far far too skinny, it's not attractive, how does she stay alive?

We did have the same thread and when I queried if we were going to have this shit weekly until Christmas I got the same sort of nonsense that Mellow is now resorting to.

Very tedious.

Celebs are 'fair game' for people to comment on their weight, rather than their talent/lack of talent? But why? Confused

I know what I mean in my head and I have trouble wording this but I'll try...

There are so many people on MN who would rightly get upset if someone else commented negatively on their weight/appearance.

They would almost definitely have plenty of posters saying, "Well that says more about the rude fucker than it does about you. Forget them, they're not worth worrying about. Are they absolutely perfect themselves?" etc....

Yet, a lot of those same posters will have no trouble unleashing their judgemental venom about the weight/appearance of celebrities.

So their words ring totally fake and hollow.

It's either fine to comment negatively on someone else's weight or it isn't.

What that person does for a living, doesn't make it suddenly OK to do so.

A common excuse on MN seems to be "Oh but they're a role model, so we have a right to comment on their weight".

Well in my opinion role models start at home. So if you're overweight/underweight as a parent and you can't seem to get that under control for the sake of your own children, you have no right to expect a complete stranger to do so.

Anyone who judges another person for their weight/appearance but thinks they shouldn't be judged themselves, is a total hypocrite imo.

Just stop the body shaming ffs.

emotionsecho · 24/10/2015 23:48

So only thin, female celebrities are fair game to be slagged off and have to accept this because they put themselves out there to be judged?

Dontlaugh · 24/10/2015 23:56

But but but mellowheart if I did as you suggest: Oh lighten up for goodness sake I'd float away for lack of ballast! I can't lose any more weight! Should I eat more? Worry less? Have a life with less stress? or not read your posts?
So many choices!

emotionsecho · 25/10/2015 00:01

I couldn't agree with you more Worra.

This is SO boring.

This just would not be said if she were plump. No way.

mellowheart · 25/10/2015 00:08

If you're in the public eye like Cheryl Cole is, lots of young girls are going to want to look like her, if she was fat they wouldn't. Cheryl Cole has got the job because of her looks. What kind of message does that send out.
Anyone who judges another person for their weight/appearance but thinks they shouldn't be judged themselves, is a total hypocrite
But that's exactly how she got her job, and many others for that matter, welcome to the fickle world of television. How many successful women on TV are over 55? not a lot. How many 15 stone women or men do you see presenting a tv show?If you feel so strong about women getting judged because of their appearance write to the television companies and complain. They are the ones who set the standards.

SuckingEggs · 25/10/2015 00:09

Adele: discuss.

It just wouldn't happen. I don't care what size she is, just trying to make a point

mellowheart · 25/10/2015 00:12

dontlaugh Perhaps you need a good fry up. We can't have you floating away can we.

Mellowheart You have now dragged age into the debate - a completely different argument.
Weight is such a stick to beat women with, yes we are judged on size but it has swung the other way too much - to the point where there are websites on celebs height and weight, but mainly female! Nonsense.
Your argument re age holds no weight, as it were, in this debate as there are no websites bemoaning the lack of over 50 actresses in movies.
You have lost all credibility.

Dontlaugh · 25/10/2015 00:15

I have to admit, I'd love a sausage n egg buttie right about now.

mellowheart · 25/10/2015 00:16

Needascarf have you got proof that she got the job because of those talents you mentioned.

SummerNights1986 · 25/10/2015 00:17

I'm thin... Many a times in my life have people found it ok to tell me I need to eat more. Truth is I would look better with more weight on, it just doesn't happen easily. It's rather upsetting when people just assume because you are thin it's a choice.

Yes but with Cheryl that's clearly not the case, is it? She's not got a naturally waif-like shape has she? As evidenced by thousands of past photos of her where she looks slim but healthy.

There's something awfully wrong IMO and I feel sorry for her. Her face has aged 15 years in as many months and looking at her sunken cheeks and protruding bones makes me wince.

I agree it's a nasty op but how anyone could argue that her shape is normal or anywhere near it is beyond me. She is fucking drastically underweight and she looks bloody ill fgs.

mellowheart · 25/10/2015 00:18

No I haven't lost credibility at all. I'll stand by what I said. It's hardly just my opinion. Men and women are judged for their looks and age on television. To deny it is incredibly naive.

summernights thank goodness someone who speaks the truth. Can you imagine Cheryl Cole being surrounded by people telling her how wonderful she looks, when she clearly doesn't. If I was her mum I'd be telling her as it, she needs someone to speak the plain truth. It's not a healthy look. I'm amazed that so many think she looks fine.

mellowheart · 25/10/2015 00:26

What's the question scarf

Longislandicetee · 25/10/2015 00:26

OP, what issues do you have going on in your life that would make you write such an utterly bitchy post? Every time a dick like you posts nasty comments slating slim women it's incredibly hard not to retaliate. Do answer my question though as I am kind of curious.

Dontlaugh · 25/10/2015 00:28

The point of this debate though, as I have understood it, is yes Mellowheart your criticism may well be valid but how many fat people have you targeted with the same precision and public denouement? For every Cheryl, there are 10 singers worth 10 times her weight. Not a post about them have I seen, suggesting they may drop the Cornettos.

mellowheart · 25/10/2015 00:29

If you're on about have I got proof she got the job because of her looks. How would I have that. Yes she was in a successful band, but you can bet your bottom dollar that if she was a plain little thing she wouldn't have got this job. How ridiculous to think otherwise. Where's your proof that she got the job because of her many talents?
