to think that hummus is not a sandwich filling? (lighthearted)

I was at a work lunch yesterday (think trays of sandwiches, posh crisps) where I picked up a sandwich and bit into it without really looking closely. It turned out to be hummus, grated carrot and something sweet, raisins or grapes or something. I was a bit Hmm but no chance to spit it out as I was talking to someone important.

Is that really a sandwich filling or just a joke by the caterers?

I like that sandwich.

NotTodaySatan · 02/10/2015 09:22

Well that sounds vile but YA still BU.

My uni shop used to sell a hummus and roasted pepper sandwich on ciabatta and it was the food of the gods.

trollkonor · 02/10/2015 09:22

Yes, t makes a god sandwich filing with salad. You wierdo Grin

DamnBamboo · 02/10/2015 09:22

I regularly use that as a filling for my boys lunches! Hummus, carrot & cucumber ribbons in a wrap. Yum.

Blu · 02/10/2015 09:22

Raisins have no place in any sandwich!

Junosmum · 02/10/2015 09:23

That sounds nice, except I don't like carrot. It's great for veggies. I don't think hummus on it's own is but when put with other stuff it's great.

poocatcherchampion · 02/10/2015 09:23

i think that sounds good too.
But I do sympathise with the shock factor and trying to keep your face straight.

NotTodaySatan · 02/10/2015 09:24

I am genuinely offended by the notion of raisins in a sandwich Shock.

Sighing · 02/10/2015 09:24

It's perfectly normal and has been a fairly standard option for a while. (I hate the bits of fruit though Envy)
Take more care over sandwich selection. Grin

Sounds like they've been reading the BBC good food site

MaxieMouse · 02/10/2015 09:24

mmm... hummus. YABU. I'm off to the supermarket, I really want a hummus and carrot sandwich now.

jennifer86 · 02/10/2015 09:25

Agree with PP above that hummous with roasted peppers is amazing. Although I wouldn't be fussed about the grated carrot Hmm so can see what you mean!

Bunbaker · 02/10/2015 09:28

Great thread. Off to make some hummus for later. I love hummus and grated carrot. I would replace the raisins with falafel though.

IHaveBrilloHair · 02/10/2015 09:29

I like hummous and avocado

NationMcKinley · 02/10/2015 09:31

Raisins in a sandwich? Horrific. You have my sympathies, OP

mumeeee · 02/10/2015 09:34

YABU. Hummous is a good sandwich feeling and that sandwich sounds yummy.

grumpysquash · 02/10/2015 09:38

Looks like IABU :) Maybe the raisins are the unreasonable part!

But hummus is a dip, IMO, best eaten with veggie sticks.

Could be a new range of dip and fruit based sandwiches though:

taramasalata, rocket and pear?
tzatziki and plum?
guacamole and apricot?
mango chutney, lettuce and green pepper?

Anyone like one (offers plate round)?

DS has a houmous sandwich for his packed lunch most days. Don't fancy the raisins much though.

Senpai · 02/10/2015 09:40

Ick. Raisins, carrots, and humus. All things that do not belong on a sandwich. What happened to just having some lunch meat, cheese, lettuce, and some normal condiment to give it flavor?

Bunbaker · 02/10/2015 09:42

Because that is boring Senpai

StickyProblem · 02/10/2015 09:46

I was at a work lunch, our office caterer is really terrible, their latest culinary invention is a CHICK PEA sandwich! Whole chick peas and a bit of lettuce. Truly vile.

Ludoole · 02/10/2015 09:47

The only way to eat is houmous is by dipping warm pitta bread cut in to soldiers in to it Grin

LikeASoulWithoutAMind · 02/10/2015 09:49

The houmous sounds fine. Raisins in a sandwich, however, are an abomination. Shock

Liomsa · 02/10/2015 09:50

Hummus needs something to anchor it in a sandwich - preferably falafel and salad or roast vegetables, in a pitta - or it's just a bit damp and limp. The raisins are the truly disgusting bit in your sandwich, OP. Why in God's name does it seem standard to put them in grated carrot salad? Eurgh.

ThisWillSoOutMe · 02/10/2015 09:50

Hummus and Marmite sandwiches are utterly divine Smile
