... Absolutely stunning!!
Anyone who had to go through the old New Street Station knew how grim it was and didn't help the reputation of Birmingham but if you could see it now!...
Hats off to all the builders architects etc! It is amazing!! Grin

I've heard so many good things about it that I'm planning a trip up as soon as my morning sickness calms down

Bea · 24/09/2015 18:14

99...Oh do!! Loads of shops that are so different! (and of course John lewis) but it really is architecturally beautiful!

I'm so excited to get myself to John Lewis, I can't even cope!

Bea · 24/09/2015 18:20

John lewis is indeed nothing to frown at... But Grand Central!!... Prepare yourself!!

Mum and Dad went on a trip just to look at it. Apparently no where to sit though.

99percentchocolate · 24/09/2015 18:28

Trying to convince Dsis (who works in the centre) to try out some of the cafes for lunch and report back. Really excited - especially since the store I work at has been training staff for one of the new stores in GC.

PastaLaFeasta · 24/09/2015 18:30

Oooo I was a student there a few years back when the new Bullring opened. New Street was dire. I presume there was an original station that was bombed and the concrete monstrosity built in its place.

Bea · 24/09/2015 18:31

Loads and loads and loads of eateries!!
LittleMiss... You maybe right re:seating... I think they're trying to make you sit in a cafe!! (and spend money!!!)

Bea · 24/09/2015 18:33

Paesta... You will find it incredible.. If you remember old New Street!
The new bullring!... I still think of the bullring as relatively new!!!
Where does all the time go?? Grin

I thought you were going to say it's the real identity of clock bus canada.

Did we ever find out where that really was?

mrsseed · 24/09/2015 18:37

Thank you for the hats off! It was amazing to see it all come together in the last few weeks. There is still a fair bit of work to do, but mostly at night.

wonkywheel · 24/09/2015 18:38

It was revealed that clock bus canada was a 'plant' to try and drum up interest, which to be fair worked pretty well but a shit idea!

MNBirminghamLocalEd · 24/09/2015 18:39

It's fabulous, isn't it? So lovely to see Birmingham all done up

Thank you wonky.

It's a shame because Clock Bus Canada Station is quite fun to say Grin

Bubblesinthesummer · 24/09/2015 18:45

Mum and Dad went on a trip just to look at it. Apparently no where to sit though.

That to me would be an issue Sad

Bubblesinthesummer · 24/09/2015 18:46

Bea So do I feel old

fuzzpig · 24/09/2015 18:48

Thanks, we are going to Birmingham next summer and I was wondering which station to finish our journey at - that's settled then! :o

mrsseed · 24/09/2015 18:49

To be fair I cant take much credit! I was looking after the safety side of some of the temporary works, for the last 2 years, but its still a project I'm proud to have been involved in. There were thousands of people involved during construction, let alone the planning.

BackforGood · 24/09/2015 18:51

I've heard lots of lovely things. I am going in to Town especially to have a look, soon.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 24/09/2015 18:52

It looks a great job, something to be proud of.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 24/09/2015 18:54

I can't believe how much Birmingham has changed. I used to visit regularly when I was a kid and loved the market down the bottom opposite St Martins Church. I used to buy my Doc Martens from a second's stall in that market and my spray on jeans from a stall outside.

The upper bit of the market, outside where the new Bull ring is was more food and stuff. There used to be a frozen food stall my mum and buy cheap meat fromGrin Gotta love the 70's and 80's.

I have been to see the new Bull Ring, it was amazing, but I still feel a bit wistful for the Birmingham of my youth even though it was a bit of a dump

ouryve · 24/09/2015 18:54

Nowhere to sit would be a problem for a lot of people but, hey, it looks pretty and it's full of shops and cafes!

At least I now understand why MIL was talking about wanting to visit. Nope, I wouldn't make an 8 hour round trip especially, I must admit!

Bea · 24/09/2015 19:05

Doyouthink!... Grin
Snap, I bought my doc martens there!!
The old bull ring! Gah! I remember it well... But the view from next looking towards st martens church is really lovely!!
With the Bullring... The new library.. . And now grand central it really is keeping up with modern times! Also Victoria Square with the floozy in the jacuzzi is always a lovely space I still think... The council buildings and all that!!
