To complain about lidl girl rolling her eyes at me twice

I usually only pop in for a few things. But did a huge shop because of a voucher.

When it came to paying she mumbled "would you like a free sticky toy" I could hardly hear this, asked her to repeat it politely. Then I said sorry what is that, she rolled her eyes at me, turned around rolled her eyes at a colleague and said "its a toy when you spend over 10". I get she must get that a lot, but if she didn't mumble or they had signs up about this promotion it wouldn't confuse people. I've never heard of it before.

She was a bit rude, but can you imagine having to ask that all day. Especially if she is quite quiet.

Please don't complain. She's doing a minimum wage job.

If she was abusive, then of course yes, but not for an eye roll.

She was rude. But she's also doing a really tedious job for minimum wage, so I would give her a break.

I would have said something to her directly rather than complain to a higher up. I wouldn't have been rude or aggressive just something along the lines of "Gosh, it's not good customer service to roll your eyes like that. I couldn't hear you. You're lucky I'm a reasonable person because somebody else might decide to complain to your boss about that".

I don't advocae complaining, just get over it BUT life staff don't get paid minimum wage. Check out staff get about £9 an hour!

She's bored, in a minimum wage job & it was a relatively simple question. Hardly worth complaining about.

I'll pop along to the local Lidl where my friend works and tell her she has carte blanche to be rude to customers because she's on a low wage. I'm sure she'll be delighted and not at all bothered about how treating other people with disrespect will affect her dignity and self-esteem.

I know it's hard and I always think of doing these things after the fact but trying to work on it. Best to question these things at the time when people dis you. Calmly and politely ask why she was rolling her eyes at you, it will force her to explain herself and she'll know that you won't just take the crap she's giving. She'd probably be embarrassed and apologise.

No one has said that everyone in a poorly paid job has free rein to be as rude as they like.

My point was that eye rolling isn't great, but it's hardly calling someone a 'thick cow', and I would cut someone doing a boring, poorly paid job a bit of slack.

I agree with Vulcan. No point in complaining for such a small thing after the event. Next time say something like.....please don't roll your eyes at me. I am only asking you to explain. Or something.

People on minimum wage jobs don't have to be rude btw.

I wouldn't agree that nine pounds an hour is a good wage for any adult tbh, albeit it not being the minimum

Yes - I would complain ; posters are being patronising to say that low wage = sullen / poor customer service.

I just think its one of those things where it happened to me i would say something at the time eg "theres no need to roll your eyes i couldnt hear you". Unless you have absolutely nothing else to do today then just move on. She didnt tell you to fuck off she just got a bit narky. Hardly worth making a fuss about really

But it's not her fault that they don't have signs up. YY she could have spoken louder but if she is quiet and she isn't used to being asked to repeat herself then she wouldn't know she was mumbling.

Personally I wouldn't report someone for an eye roll.

I find it shocking that we have become so entitled that we will excuse poor customer service/rudeness because she is on minimum wage!

I agree that she shouldn't have rolled her eyes at you, she was rude. However you might get her in to a lot of trouble and she could just have been having a bad day. Maybe next time you see her you can be equally as dismissive of her but don't complain to head office as she could end up with a written warning or worse.

It's not really about the wage. It's about her having to ask everyone the same question. It can be very embarrassing for someone who is very quiet.

If it bothered the OP that much she should have said something then. Complaining to her manager is ott, imo. It's not patronising. It's accepting that people aren't perfect and get a bit fed up.

I have never got why people never give customer service staff a bit of slack now and again.

If the op said 'everytime I go in she rolls her eyes' then fair enough, complain. But it's a one off.

Maybe I am really entitled to give a girl a break.
