I'm 36 and would like to ttc around Christmas.

I've 2 dc but would love a third.

I don't think 36 is old now for a baby but then I scare myself by googling too much!

Had my second at 42, naturally conceived, straightforward pregnancy and birth. He does have ASD though. 13 year gap between him and my DD.

Like PowerPants, I am utterly knackered and sometimes wish I had had my children much younger especially as I now find myself a lone parent at 46.

There are also grandparents at the school gates younger than me!

Dowser · 27/08/2015 08:19

How things have changed. I had my last at 29 and thought that was old!

At least ican benefit ( somedays) from being a fairly youthful nana.

TriJo · 27/08/2015 10:03

DH's mum had her 6th (7th pregnancy) at 43.

CaptainHammer · 27/08/2015 10:12

My mum had me at 40 (27 years ago, she was definitely seen as an old mum!). She's the oldest I've heard of personally, know a few 37 year olds that have just had children though.

fizzysweetie · 27/08/2015 10:17

46, non-assisted.

My mum had me at 42.

EdgarAllenPoe · 27/08/2015 10:18

My grandmother had my mother aged 46. My mum was the youngest of 13 and my grandmother lived to see 100. She was pretty amazing!

nagynolonger · 27/08/2015 10:23

I had my youngest just before I turned 40. That was the age limit I set for me but he was my 6th.

My best friends at school had mums who were 46 and 48. We never thought it strange. They were the youngest in the family by a few years and I'm guessing came as a bit of a surprise. This was in the late 1950s.

It wasn't that unusual in the past but neither was early marriage and babies born a year later. Late teens and early 20s mums were the norm as were slightly older mums. People didn't have the choice I suppose.

MyballsareSandy · 27/08/2015 10:27

My friend had her first child last year, when she was 50

Panicmode1 · 27/08/2015 10:31

There was someone in my NCT group who was 50 (her first was in her 20s).

BalloonSlayer · 27/08/2015 10:35

Both of my Mum's grandmothers had babies at 48. Obviously no IVF involved in those days! My great aunt had a baby at 49 and was in all the papers where she lived (not in UK).

I had my youngest at 43 (unplanned).

fleurdelacourt · 27/08/2015 11:40

My grandma had her last (9th!!) baby naturally at 48. I have a friend who had a surprise pre menopause baby at 46.

I also know a 46 year old who has just had a baby with a donor embryo.

beardsrock · 27/08/2015 12:57

A friend is 44 and has two and a three year old.

beardsrock · 27/08/2015 12:58

Zanymummy · 27/08/2015 14:42

Wish4another · 17/01/2019 18:44

Congrats I’m just 47 and would love to get pregnant . How old is your little one and is it utterly exhausting?!

IsItThatTimeAgain · 17/01/2019 18:52

43, my cousin.

Camomila · 17/01/2019 18:55

44 naturally (2nd baby)

Doyouneedthetoilet · 17/01/2019 18:57

I was 38 with our first and 45 with the second. Took a while to get pregnant both times as I have PCOS which wasn't diagnosed until I was 35. Spent the years up till then on the Pill trying not to get pregnant.

I think it’s very common now for women to be starting a family in their late 30’s/early 40’s.

BejamNostalgia · 17/01/2019 19:03

Before contraception, in women who had a lot of pregnancies, it was very common for women to keep on having pregnancies into their late 40s.

3in4years · 17/01/2019 19:04

At uni my friend's mum had a surprise baby. Her mum was 50.

aLilNonnyMouse · 17/01/2019 19:04

My nan had her third and 37 and her forth at 42 and that was in the 1950s. 36 isn't too old at all.

Purplejay · 17/01/2019 19:18

My mum was 39 when she had me I know a few people who were aroinf 40. My friend’s mum was 45.

I was 43 when I stopped trying for no2. I went on the mini pill for horrendous periods (it’s amazing). Before than I had refused contraceptive options.

Wasitnotme · 17/01/2019 19:28

I know 2 who were 45. My grandmother was 45 when she had my mum and my mum hated it having such an older mother Shock she had me when she was 21. I had my 3 girls at 31, 33 & 35.

Vanillaradio · 17/01/2019 19:35
  1. And it was twins! I know quite a few people who had babies in their 40s. I had ds at 37 and was not considered old even by doctors.
