Do married couples actually have sex on wedding night?

julesldn · 20/08/2015 01:39

Ok so not exactly an AIBU question but...

myself (not married) and some unmarried friends are discussing whether couples actually have sex on their wedding night, or are they too drunk/tired/emotional to DTD?

Any insights welcome - we're curious!

We didn't for about three days! Too bloody tired (early pregnancy)

AliceMum09 · 25/08/2015 23:30

We didn't, DH was way too drunk and I spent about 1/2 an hour trying to get all the hair pins out of my hair!

Focusfocus · 26/08/2015 13:01

Got married on the other side of the world in my home country. DTD-ed on the morning of the event- wedding was at night as is customary there.

Day ended at midnight after 3 events from morning till evening involving 3 outfits - with DH taking out 102 pins from my updone hair, removing my make up, taking off my many layers of traditional bridal wear and flowers and massaging my poor pin-ridden head and hair till i fell asleep.

it was quite perfect without sex.

A friend of mine is getting married tomorrow, I'll phone them at 6am on Friday morning and ask them shall I? Grin

LemonRedwood · 26/08/2015 14:02

We didn't. We were exhausted (well, I was exhausted; he was more drunk tired and emotional), went to bed at midnight and had to be up and out at 4:30am to get to the airport for honeymoon.

Wish I could say honeymoon was sex-filled but we both kept eating so much at all the lovely restaurants that we were too full to move, never mind do anything as energetic as have sex. (There was some though, it was hardly chaste :) )

munkisocks · 26/08/2015 14:04

Was very tired and hubby had been drinking alot but we did try. Went completely out the window when a giant brown spider appeared next to me. Hubby was on top and I threw him off and ran for it. It kind of spoilt the mood . Lol.

BitOutOfPractice · 26/08/2015 14:06

WE did in the jacuzzi then lay in a big four poster bed drinking champagne and looking at our marriage certificate in amazement!

Arkengarthdale · 26/08/2015 15:10

Oh yes. We also found time for champagne in the jacuzzi thingy. Best day of our lives so far Smile

BoffinMum · 26/08/2015 18:14

We did but just for the sake of form. It took about half an hour for me to get out of my frock and then about 10 minutes to DTD, after which we went to sleep as we had to get up early to fly to the Caribbean.

BoffinMum · 26/08/2015 18:15

I had forgotten about the hair pins! Yes, I think I had 102 of them as well!

DaveIsBald · 26/08/2015 18:49

Yes, and the next morning too.

flowerygirl · 26/08/2015 21:45

No. Exhausted and on my period! Worst timing ever. Made up for it on the honeymoon though!

WyrdByrd · 26/08/2015 22:00

Nope. We weren't living together beforehand so went back to our house (ours but I hadn't yet moved in) rather than a hotel and crashed out.

Up fairly early the next day for big family brunch before flying, driving & boating to 'mini moon' in Scotland. Finally got round to it on the Monday morning.

We had our official honeymoon a few months later - 3 weeks touring Australia. Thanks to a busy schedule & AF arriving on the outward flight we only managed it once then too!

BreconBeBuggered · 27/08/2015 00:06

We did, and it was such a memorable experience that DH still hasn't stopped complaining about my 'choice' of overly-complex bra. To be fair, my sister had fitted me into it and I had no idea what hooks came apart where either. Still, you'd think that he could let it go after twenty-odd years. The old romantic.

80sMum · 27/08/2015 00:12

No, we didn't. We were on an overnight ferry in tiny narrow bunk beds!

Wearyheadedlady · 27/08/2015 02:07

We didn't. We fell asleep around 2.30am talking about what a wonderful party we'd had at the end of the day of festivities. I was a few weeks up the duff, too so very, very tired.

Pasithea · 27/08/2015 12:32

Non because the groom and best man had passed out in the bridal suite

ctotoro · 27/08/2015 14:22

We didn't. I was exhausted! We both were! We were in our room and all I wanted was for my DH to get my dress off so I could breathe, it had gotten so tight over the heat of the day! Then took about 100 bobby pins out of my hair, we looked at some of our wedding cards and gifts and went to sleep, zonked!
Straight off on honeymoon the next day though so we made up for it there! Blush

littlerayofsunshite · 29/08/2015 18:43

We have been together 10 years but got married this year and conceived baby number 4 on our wedding night! Grin

FriendofDorothy · 29/08/2015 19:01

No, we got back to the hotel, had a bath together and ordered pasta from room service! Made up for it on honeymoon though!

captaincake · 29/08/2015 19:20

I honestly can't remember Blush Probably and we certainly did after our reception (different days as we got married abroad)

What a romantic story summer Grin

bogiesaremyonlyfriend · 29/08/2015 20:39

Definitely. I was 35 weeks pregnant and had a low lying placenta, which made dtd super painful and horrid morning sickness so pretty much hadn't done since conception, but it was mandatory on the wedding night.

JoanJettPack · 29/08/2015 20:57

Even though we were both shitfaced and knackered, we managed to dtd and conceive ds3! Blush

carameldecaflatte · 29/08/2015 21:37

Nope. I was 30 weeks pregnant at the time (wedding booked just before we found out I was pregnant) and with ds bouncing on my cervix all day long it just wasn't happening. Smile

Writtenbyme · 29/08/2015 21:45

We didn't. Both sober. Got to the hotel room about 1am and chatted for hours about the day.
