Do married couples actually have sex on wedding night?

julesldn · 20/08/2015 01:39

Ok so not exactly an AIBU question but...

myself (not married) and some unmarried friends are discussing whether couples actually have sex on their wedding night, or are they too drunk/tired/emotional to DTD?

Any insights welcome - we're curious!

I can't remember! Blush

DragonMamma · 20/08/2015 06:46

Not here, far too drunk and it was about 3am.

boobubsmum · 20/08/2015 06:46

I was 7 months pregnant and way too exhausted!!

lipsandcurls · 20/08/2015 06:49

Yes...in my dress, 'twas fabulous!!!!

DinosaursRoar · 20/08/2015 06:57

Yes! You get get an annulament before you've DTD - my view was it was the last bit of all the legal requirements! Wink

I did read somewhere that most people don't on the wedding night, but most do the following morning.

Lagoonablue · 20/08/2015 07:01

No.

JanineMelnitzGlasses · 20/08/2015 07:04

We didn't, both bit tired and emotional far too pissed. Didn't do it the next day either far too hungover.

YellowDinosaur · 20/08/2015 07:08

Yep, in my dress halfway through the reception :o

We were staying at the reception venue that night so disappeared upstairs for a quickie. No one even noticed!

RatOnnaStick · 20/08/2015 07:12

Ha! No we got home, dress off, kettle on, tea and toast in bed with the telly on. Utter BlissGrin

Oysterbabe · 20/08/2015 07:22

We did. I was hammered but still managed to get on the sexy undies I'd bought then let him get on with it, I was virtually unconscious.

vdbfamily · 20/08/2015 07:25

We had not had sex BEFORE our wedding night and were both virgins so we could not wait to get away from the wedding party.

LemonPied · 20/08/2015 07:26

Nah we were rat arsed. We got back to out hotel, opened all the cards on the bed whilst drinking champagne and eating a chocolate champagne bottle then promptly fell asleep Grin

flanjabelle · 20/08/2015 07:28

I'm so jealous of all your weddings and wedding nights, sex or no sex. I desperately want to get married but just can't afford it. we have so much family so it would have to be a big do, and there just isn't any money for it. :(

ollieplimsoles · 20/08/2015 07:28

Epic thread.

We did, but just barely.. We were shattered after driving to our honeymoon lodge straight after the reception. But I had my lingere on under my dress and didn't want to waste it! Grin

eurochick · 20/08/2015 07:30

We did. Sort of because we felt we had to, but it was still nice.

patterkiller · 20/08/2015 07:30

Nope. We weren't speaking. Dreadful night. Luckily that was probably the low point of our marriage having stuck it out for 18 years now.

mrschatty · 20/08/2015 07:36

Absolutely! Best night of our lives! We couldn't keep our hands off each other. Even though we'd been a couple for 5 years it was like the first!! Blush our advice to all friends getting married is DON'T GET TO DRUNK ENJOY YOUR WEDDING NIGHT!!!!

EmeraldKitten · 20/08/2015 07:38

We didn't.

Dh was comatose. He kept being bought drinks and was fine until 12.30am. Then he hit a wall. I had to walk him to the hotel room, undress him and put him to bed because he couldn't string a sentence together.

He pissed the bed in the night he was so drunk. He's lucky I love him and that the day was so fabulous up until then!

VaultHunter · 20/08/2015 07:38

First wedding - too tired.
Second wedding - we consummated the marriage about an hour after signing the register...

gabsdot45 · 20/08/2015 07:41

We didn't. We were both virgins and we had planned to of course but when it came to it we realised that we were going to need some sort of lubricant. So we fooled around a bit and a went to sleep. We picked some up at the airport next day and proceeded to shag none stop for pretty much our entire our honeymoon.
Well, we had waited..........

User543212345 · 20/08/2015 07:41

We did. We were drunk and it was perfunctory. Preceded by me shouting from the bathroom "don't fall asleep I will not be part of that statistic" as I'd heard that 80% of couples don't shag on their wedding night. Romantic is my middle name y'know.

VaultHunter · 20/08/2015 07:44

We got married in a quick register office job though so it was just us and after photos were taken we went back to our stunning accommodation opened the champers and had a fantastic wedding afternoon & night! 6 years later and we still can't keep our hands off each other.

BoomBoomsCousin · 20/08/2015 07:55

We didn't. But we had sex the morning of the wedding.

I don't think the idea of "the wedding night" is uite the same when almost all couples already live together.

RoboticSealpup · 20/08/2015 08:08

Yes, but we got married at 7pm and the party finished around 3. UK-style all day weddings are exhausting though, so I don't blame anyone who just wants to sleep after one of those.

Shodan · 20/08/2015 08:11

We did.

It wasn't very romantic though.

DH: (lying shattered on the bed which had oddly-themed safari curtains around it)" We're supposed to shag on our wedding night."

Me: (heavy sigh, lying shattered and really quite pissed on bed next to him) "'K. Get on with it then."
