lazygirluk.wordpress.com/2015/08/19/is-it-just-me-thinking-mumsnet-brought-the-dadsec-attack-on-itself/

I'd like to know who the moderators are.

That was really interesting LoveAndMonsters thanks for posting that.

LoveandMonsters · 20/08/2015 11:10

Sounds like you had a spat on the internet, and gave as good as you got. It was just that - a spat - that you were a part of. You can walk away.

Let it go.

SalemSaberhagen · 20/08/2015 11:10

I've just read the old thread. She used the lovely 'must be their time of the month' insult for some of the posters who disagreed with her.

Disabilist and misogynistic 20. Mumsnet mourns the loss of you as a poster.

Wine clink clink

LoveandMonsters · 20/08/2015 11:10

BastardGoDarkly - it's spot on, isn't it.

TheyreMadITellYouMaaaad · 20/08/2015 11:16

What a load of bolleaux. MN wasn't hacked in some form of sexist attack or heroic revenge. , nor for kicks. MN was hacked in order to get hold of information that could be used by other crooks. The DoS and trolling are just to distract MNHQ and Tech in order to continue the hacking and harvest as much info as possible.

How self-centred and egotistical to assume it's all about you.

SaucyJack · 20/08/2015 11:23

This is the best article I've read online about HackerGate. Ignore the trolls.

ghostspirit · 20/08/2015 11:23

i have not been bullied on here...when people have got nasty there have always been other member that have popped up and said thats not on.

but i have been on the 'other' site and the mods done nothing part from make it worse!

JeffreysMummyisCross · 20/08/2015 11:25

I don't think I've ever heard a woman use the "time of the month" insult to another woman before. Sounds like a classic case of internalised misogyny.

You are aware that calling people 'Mentalists' is considered disablist?

Mental illness is a disability in it's own right.

Do you remember all the other insults you said?

MistressMerryWeather · 20/08/2015 11:27

For someone blogging about people needing to take responsibility, you really need to take a long hard look at yourself.

JeffreyNeedsAHobby · 20/08/2015 11:31

When a group of people go out of their way to invade an area people use and disrupt it, for whatever reason, they are the perpetrators. Blaming the victim is a typical defence for the worst crimes in our society.

These are criminals taking out their efforts on the general public for their own ends.

JeffreyNeedsAHobby · 20/08/2015 11:34

If this happened on another forum that wasn't so apparently female in it's members (although MN is has a large amount of men), which it could just as well do, I am sure the people connected with those sites would be all "Why us?" and forget how quickly they pointed the finger at 'vipers'. Some other people would then come along and say "because you have BLUE HAIR/BIG EARS/LIKE TALKING ABOUT STAR TREK" and to them it would be completely justified.

It's simply a way of enforcing your own ideals and opinions on a group of people you don't identify with.

MistressMerryWeather · 20/08/2015 11:39

Well said JeffreyNeedsAHobby.

CoteDAzur · 20/08/2015 11:41

"I merely posted on a forum a few years ago and was told by members who faced no sanction for it to "go and die", that I was a C**t and that my children were weak and wimpy. I then asked, politely, by PM that the ringleader please leave me alone, and was told off for it by MNHQ. "

People say what they think on here and don't fear four-letter words. That is partly why I like MN.

FYI namecalling and personal insults are not tolerated on here anymore. You can't even ask anyone to fuck off even when it's in their best interest to do so, which I think is a shame.

suzannefollowmyvan · 20/08/2015 11:43

MN was hacked in order to get hold of information that could be used by other crooks

but how will they use the info obtained?
I dont understand how it will be useful to other crooksConfused

NerrSnerr · 20/08/2015 11:47

I don't think 20something cares about mumsnet. It's just an easy way to get clicks. She's recently blogged about the blogger pr request argument and the bribery blogger thing too. They were equally poorly thought out and badly written but she knows people will search on Twitter and click on her blog.

It's just lazy writing but the more hits the more chance of getting paid writing wol.

YellowTulips · 20/08/2015 11:52

Maybe 20 should re-read her posts on the thread linked above.

Having done so, it her posts on this thread come across as "pot and kettle" and dare I suggest somewhat disingenuous.....imho of course Smile

YellowTulips · 20/08/2015 11:54

Apologies for the random "it" - not sure where that came from Wink

ArendelleQueen · 20/08/2015 11:55

On teh interweb, if you call someone "a big, fat twat", it makes you a bully, even if they are a big, fat twat. Bullying is one of the most overused words on social media.

CerseiLannistersEyebrow · 20/08/2015 11:55

Crooks could do fuck all with the info. There is a Chan site where they (the men doing this) are discussing this and how to troll us. This is a misogynist attack. Why is it wrong to name it as such?

LazyLohan · 20/08/2015 11:57

Personally I prefer that this site lets people sort their issues out as adults rather than adopting a schoolyard 'Now, now children' attitude. But personally I have no issue with telling established posters and their acolytes to fuck off. Because I think if someone believes they gain kudos and prestige from their standing on a forum they're a bit of a sad cunt and I don't care what they think anyway.

But that's just me.

Pigeonpost · 20/08/2015 12:02

Dear god. Some people have too much spare time on their hands.

LoveandMonsters · 20/08/2015 12:03

Sending SWAT teams round, and gloating "RIP Mumsnet" on Twitter suggests to me that this is much more than a data-mining exercise.

TheyreMadITellYouMaaaad · 20/08/2015 12:09

The info is useful to crooks because a lot of people reuse passwords. So they now have a list of emails and associated passwords to try out.

I still think data-mining was the main objective of the attack. Of course, plenty of misogynists have jumped onto the bandwagon to pleasure themselves over MN's situation.
