Netmums VS Mumsnet

Mumsnet seems more controversial in content to me (well the AIBU section anyway). I previously enjoyed Netmums but find now that I hardly ever go on it. I prefer the "lively" sometimes abrasive discussions on Mumsnet.

Maryz is a big fat liar, liar, pants on fire.

Each to their own, is my take on the whole NM vs MN debate.

I wonder how many MNers defected to NM? None

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 10/08/2015 21:53

Noo Vulcan it's a countdown/timeline kinda thing that you have in your signature. Uses include birthdays,Christmas, weightloss, ovulation, pregnancy, saving for something and various random things you can come up with!

I think Bleakhouse might be channelling Benny Hill.

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 10/08/2015 22:18

I'm pretty sure Mumsnet came before Netmums. I seem to recall a couple of people being banned because they were blatantly trying to set up the new site and take people across.

This would've been about 13 or 14 years ago - so if Netmums is "older" than that, apologies for casting aspersions.

I used Babycentre.co.uk when I was pregnant (ds was born in 2000) and then came across to Mumsnet while I was breastfeeding ds, so early 2001.
I've been round a looooong time Blush

mrstiggy · 10/08/2015 22:31

Tickers make my eyes go all funny and it makes the gaps between the replies too large for my small brain to make sense of. And I don't like being told I can't swear. And I don't like the general bitchy undertone I felt on NMs when I had a nosy round. So mumsnet wins for me. Not that we don't have bitchy people here too, but they are openly bitchy and we can call them on it. It's a much healthier way to be.

MillieMoodle · 10/08/2015 22:32

I started out on Babyexpert (years ago!) then they changed the format and everyone left. So I moved over to NMs and found it massively irritating with all the huns and the bubz. Agree with a pp that their local boards are ok though - I've made a really good friend irl from that.
First ventured over to MN to have a look when it was being 'discussed' on NMs. Found MN a teeny bit scary to start with so flitted between the two for a while but am now MN through and through. Although some posters still scare me a little bit, wouldn't want to be on the other side in an argument with them!

PacificDogwood · 10/08/2015 22:34

LOL @ 'fucking ticker' Grin

ghostspirit · 10/08/2015 22:37

coffee i remeber the cravan thread.. i (think) i got banned because of that fiona!

polyhymnia · 10/08/2015 22:39

To be honest, I've never really looked at Netmums and have, perhaps lazily, always assumed that MN was for more intelligent and better educated and more open minded women. But of course that may be complete prejudice.

I've only read one thread on netmums. I was reading glasses the thread here on allowing men to stay over in postnatal hospital wards, very interesting. So I googled to find out other stuff and a netmums thread came up. I'll say one thing for them, they sure love their lovely hubbies and have zero interest in any implications outside their wishes and their hubbies' rights (as they see it). There was no substantial attempt to discuss a wider view, a feminist view, the implications for women in abusive relationships, altering the relationship between HCP and patient, none of the aspects vigorously debated here.

I think this is part of the swearing allowed/no txtspk mentality. This site is for adults who can take a wider view and don't need to be molly coddled.

ApocalypseThen · 10/08/2015 22:48

I was indeed reading glasses. What the hell did I mean by that?
