To ask lady to stop smoking near my newborn and pregnant friend?

Out for coffee and a friend went in to get them and a woman is smoking. Friend is pregnant and I have a newborn.

I asked her to stop and she was being rude to me and said she'd smoke outside if she wanted!

Do you think I was unreasonable? I think it's horrible ...

YABVU people following the rules don't have to accommodate you.
If you don't like it, just move.....

ChristmasZombie · 05/08/2015 15:51

It's not nice, but if she was in a designated smoking area then yes YWBU.

MarchLikeAnAnt · 05/08/2015 15:52

Yabu. Why didn't you move away?

Jackie0 · 05/08/2015 15:52

Well, I think she had a point.
She can smoke outside if she wants to.
Was she seated before you arrived ?

AnneSansTete · 05/08/2015 15:53

Of course yabu.

I understand you not wanting her to smoke near your new born but as you'd chosen to sit outside it should've been you that moved and without a fuss.

hissybug · 05/08/2015 15:53

yes you are being ridiculous

ThatBloodyWoman · 05/08/2015 15:54

Yabvu and rudiculous.

Summerisle1 · 05/08/2015 15:54

I don't smoke any longer but actually, I do think that if smokers are in a designated area outside then you either put up with it or move. After all, you've got the whole smoke-free cafe to sit in.

mynewpassion · 05/08/2015 15:55

Yes. You move.

PunkrockerGirl · 05/08/2015 15:55

Yabu. It's legal to smoke outside. Either put up or shut up.

WorraLiberty · 05/08/2015 15:57

Blimey, it's been at least 2 weeks since we've had one of these threads.

YABU because you have a choice of sitting inside or outside.

She doesn't have that choice if she wants a cigarette.

pinktrufflechoc · 05/08/2015 15:57

Fair enough. The smell inside was making friend sick!

MarchLikeAnAnt · 05/08/2015 15:58

It's not the smokers fault your friend is pregnant and feeling sick.

Gwenci · 05/08/2015 15:58

Yep, sorry, another YABU here too.

I have a 3 month old so I wouldn't want him next to cigarette smoke either but no way would I ask someone in a designated smoking area (ie outside) to stop. I'd move away myself.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 05/08/2015 16:01

You were all outside and I presume she'd already lit up?

Smokers can't win either way, you were unreasonable to have asked her to stop, I think you were rude.

AuntyMag10 · 05/08/2015 16:01

Did you really think you were reasonable on this one Confused

WorraLiberty · 05/08/2015 16:02

Wait, the smell inside the coffee shop was making her feel sick, and she doesn't like the smoke outside the coffee shop?

WTF did she want a coffee there then? Grin

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 05/08/2015 16:02

Yes, sorry, it's definitely up to you to move.

UptheChimney · 05/08/2015 16:06

This is the only downside of banning cigarette smoking inside. Those of us who hate (and are severely allergic to) someone else's disgusting cigarette smoke find that sitting outside to enjoy the sun what sun? is either not possible, or risky.

pinktrufflechoc · 05/08/2015 16:08

Don't know worra - hormones? Grin

YABU If you want don't want to be by a smoker, then either go in the coffee shop or move away from them.

Janeymoo50 · 05/08/2015 16:12

If it was outside the front of one of those high Street Coffee Shops where all the tables are really close together etc, then I feel for you. I smoke, would never dream of lighting up if you and new baby sat next to me. I'd wait until I could find a quiet corner away from people. YANBU.

pinktrufflechoc · 05/08/2015 16:15

What? Troll Confused
