Someone just told me to use the calendar on my PC, instead of poring over stationary websites to choose a nice new desk planner to write my work stuff in?

I'm right, surely to goodness?

I bought a lovely mechanical pencil from Paperchase ages ago. It was v v pretty with a rubber on the end but the best thing was that the end looked like the end of a wooden pencil that had been newly sharpened. Lots of people at work admired it. One day, I accidentally left it in a meeting room. When I remembered 10 minutes later and dashed back for it, it was nowhere to be seen. I asked everyone but none of my colleagues admitted to having seen it.
I have my suspicions though.

So if anyone sees a similar pencil around the shops or web, please sound the Stationery Siren

Amazon but absolutely no details at all.

THE BOOK in our house sits on the kitchen desk top and I have trained everyone to write all their dates in it. Is it in the book? No? Won't be happening, then.

It's a school year diary, so one of my post summer term calming sessions is to transfer important information (family birthdays and anniversaries) from one book to the next. DS and DD spent a happy half hour yesterday copying in their term dates in lilac (DS) and scarlet (DD). Then I discovered that in the bumph for DS's new school, we have the dates and times and opponents for all rugby matches up to Christmas. That's going to be my after lunch treat!

Re. fountain pens - my school have swapped to recycled paper exercise books so I now have to mark in biro or it soaks through the page! Very upsetting, not to mention exhausting, as I have 90 books to mark each day and I swear it takes more energy to push the biro over those hairy pages mutter mutter grumble grumble...

midnightvelvetPart2 · 30/07/2015 11:39

I love purple ink. I'd write everything in purple but I was buying individual pens from Rymans at £3 a pop and the kids would take them and colour in with them so I had to stop! Sad
My favourite notepad was bought last year at Whitby Abbey on holiday. Its an English Heritage one, dark brown, thick, fragrant, soft leather with a Celtic design embossed on the front and lots of beautiful handmade pages and it ties up with a long leather thong that you wrap around it a few times.
Its too special to write in though! it's still blank Grin plus i obviously need a purple pen to do so! Grin

I like organised mum diaries because of all the extra space for list making and notes and because they have monthly calendar and weekly diary pages.

I just write over the budget pages - I have excel spreadsheets for that kind of thing.

I tried switching to a moleskine one year, but it just wasn't as practical as my organised mum diary.

AttackOfTheGreyLantern · 30/07/2015 13:02

For Organised Mum users - is the paper thick enough to use fountain pen? An Amazon reviewer said the pages were a little thin, but I hope not. I'd be very happy pay another few quid for decent paper - I'll be writing on it every day!

ThoseAwfulCurtains · 30/07/2015 15:10

Oo thanks SoupDragon. I might take a punt on one of those. Smile

walkingthedogagain · 30/07/2015 16:45

Boysies - just came across this thread and wanted to say that I have tried one of these. They are make from really high quality materials in all different sizes and you can even choose whether you need 2,3,4 or 5 columns for your calendar

merrymouse · 30/07/2015 16:50

Sorry, don't know if organised mum diaries would suit fountain pen.

daisychicken · 30/07/2015 19:48

Anyone tried bullet journaling? Or bought a Midori Travellers Notebook? Any thoughts on either? I'm becoming obsessed looking at online stationery shops and on Pinterest!

SingingSamosa · 30/07/2015 20:19

BoysiesBack

I buy one of these every year. There are columns for all five of us, not that DH ever bothers filling his column, and one for birthdays too. My favourite part of it is the large pocket on each page though! All my hospital appt letters go in there (I have many!), as well as party invites, show schedules etc.

BoysiesBack · 30/07/2015 21:09

Tried one of what, Walking?

Thanks for the suggestions, we're a family of 6 though so require 6 columns.

For journal lovers, search Mallory Journals on FB, they're really beautiful and the paper quality is really good too.

walkingthedogagain · 31/07/2015 16:09

Hi Boysies,

It was the product mentioned by CamelHump on the previous page. Not sure if you could have 6 columns though.....I know that you could name the column headings to be printed on it, so you could maybe share a column between two people if you liked.

givemushypeasachance · 31/07/2015 16:46

My brother-in-law has a monthly "pen budget" for his fountain pen and ink obsession, something I can only aspire to! I do write with purple ink at work, but just have the one bottle. Can never successfully refill the reservoir without it getting all over my fingers though!

DameFanny · 31/07/2015 16:57

I use a Midori daisychicken - it is my favourite and my best. I download the Scription Chronodex every 6 months and have fun making up the diary booklet - after I've found the right combination of swears and prayers for double sided printing.

Do it do it do it

MiddleAgeMiddleEngland · 31/07/2015 17:47

One of the best things about autumn is all the lovely new diaries coming into the shops. I spend far more time than is sensible choosing the right one.

I frequently need to arrange dates for my work and most people use an electronic thingy of some sort. I can stand there for ages with the right page open in my paper diary while they are faffing around getting their digital one sorted out Grin

VagelinaJolie · 31/07/2015 18:37

Curtains- like this? I've got a teeny tiny one.

Stationary-Based AIBU. You're welcome.
daisychicken · 31/07/2015 20:37

Scripton Chronodex DameFanny???! I must find!!!! Grin I'm currently working out a bullet journal system using a spare moleskine but.... a Midori is on my to buy list and I have a birthday coming up - surely I need a special pressie to console me for becoming a year older?!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 31/07/2015 21:39

Thanks ThoseAwfulCurtains. I might try Daisy's one as well Smile.

Minisoksmakehardwork · 31/07/2015 22:07

I bought cute new highlighters today. They look Like little Russian dolls. I bought them in paper chase. Was thrilled when they rang up at 75p instead of £3. Apparently they've changed the pack design so the old stock has been reduced. Needless to say I went and found the only other pack of reduced ones left. Bargain!

LittleprincessinGOLDrocks · 31/07/2015 22:58

Can I just say, I have the best husband?! He turned up at visiting with a brand new journal and a set of posh pens. I remember now why I married him! Lol

Katinkka · 31/07/2015 23:51

That sounds like you're in prison little princess!

LittleprincessinGOLDrocks · 31/07/2015 23:53

Might as well be lol. Stuck in hospital again for the 3rd time this year.

Katinkka · 31/07/2015 23:55

Sorry lol. After I posted I realised it could be hospital. Hope you're doing ok. Xx

LittleprincessinGOLDrocks · 31/07/2015 23:58

It's quite alright, it made me giggle. Erm, long story... I'm surviving lol.
