Someone just told me to use the calendar on my PC, instead of poring over stationary websites to choose a nice new desk planner to write my work stuff in?

I'm right, surely to goodness?

For those that use pencils a lot, have you tried Sakura SumoGrip pencils? I use mine all the time and highly recommend them for comfort and smooth writing. In fact there was one in my recent order from Cult Pens. They also have a very good eraser on the end which is 2½ inches long and twists up as it is used.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 29/07/2015 22:48

I love my aluminium retractable pencils from Muji, they are so light. I will have a look at the Sumogrip ones, DS has dyspraxia and won't use pencil grips etc, but normal pencils aren't ideal for him.

Now, I would never have thought to start a thread to ask this question, but I think I have the perfect place for it on this thread. Plain writing paper for fountain pen use - what do you recommend? I don't write many letters, maybe 3 or 4 a year, but my most recent purchase of Tesco Finest writing paper just isn't cutting it, too absorbent and makes the nibs drag a bit.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 29/07/2015 22:50

Ah, just seen the price of the Sumogrip pencils, another dyspraxic trait is that he loses everything (or is that just normal 11 year old boy behaviour?). So, maybe not.

I love stationery, but no diary will beep and shout at you when you're late for a meeting! Computer diary all the way....

daisychicken · 29/07/2015 22:54

I write lots of letters and use fountain pens all the time, my favourite plain white paper is from Bureau Direct and is a bargain at £2 a pad!

I haven't found any pretty paper that's good for fountain pen inks or at a good price for a pad. I use a minimum of 5 sheets per letter so don't want packs of 20 sheets and 10 envelopes!

ThoseAwfulCurtains · 29/07/2015 22:55

Whoknows I will have a look as I have nice writing paper but DS2 has just started a migraine and wants me not to leave him alone for now till the meds kick in.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 29/07/2015 23:10

Thank you both, hope the meds work fast for your DS Those.

I'be wandered onto the wrong thread, I just use whatever pen I steal find lying around, but don't get me started on beautiful crochet hooks, you just have to have the perfect tool for the job and if it's a knitpro gold-plated it's happy hands time Grin

Pencil case I just made (DD is off to a birthday play date tomorrow).

This might be the place to admit that one the best days in my life was when I found a shop that sold scarlet highlighters!

Duckdeamon · 30/07/2015 07:44

Oooh, scarlet highlighters!

BoysiesBack · 30/07/2015 09:13

Ah, my spiritual home.

I bought beautiful notebooks for teacher gifts at the end of term, handing them over was so traumatic I had to go buy myself some to get over it Grin

Can any of you lot point me in the direction of a family calendar a bit like the organised mum ones but without the tweeness?

FruitOwl · 30/07/2015 09:25

I'm sure the only reason I'm getting married is so I have a watertight excuse to buy tons of lovely stationery. Save the date cards! Invitations! All the gubbins to go with the invitations! RSVP cards! Thank you notelets! A special big notebook for keeping track of everything! And a fabulous array of lovely, lovely pens to write everything out.

stocking fillers for the kids this year

Minisoksmakehardwork · 30/07/2015 09:54

I will -annoy dh-- encourage dc with a love of pretty writing things. I have a 7yo dd who is enthusiastic in her favourite writing implements.

PoppetOne · 30/07/2015 10:18

Passmethecrisps, I have an Outlook calendar uploader to Google mail, which I then view on my phone. It's called something like Calander Synch and is free.

I love stationery [sigh]

IMO, Organised Mum is to stationery what Blue Nun is to wine.

SoupDragon · 30/07/2015 10:25

My dad used to work for a printer. He once bought me home three hard backed books which had been made up in blank paper as samples. proper hard backed books about 3cm thick... I could never find anything worthy of sullying their pristine white pages.

PoppetOne · 30/07/2015 10:37

Oh, and don't have a look on Etsy and search 'personal organisers'....

stealthsquiggle · 30/07/2015 10:39

Serious parent envy, SoupDragon.

That said, my f her used to bring home books of obsolete forma of one kind and another. I loved all that stuff. Now I bring home notepads and pencils and the like from conferences for my DC - DH does Hmm a bit, but they love it.

SoupDragon · 30/07/2015 10:44

He used to work for the Daily Telegraph before that and "obtained" photos of Duran Duran from the photo library for me... :) The paper products were less interesting then though.

ThoseAwfulCurtains · 30/07/2015 10:53

Whoknows It's John Lewis Script writing paper 100gsm and not quite as smooth as it could be so I'm going to give the paper Daisy suggested a try next time though it's a lighter weight.
