Someone just told me to use the calendar on my PC, instead of poring over stationary websites to choose a nice new desk planner to write my work stuff in?

I'm right, surely to goodness?

"You know when you find a pen which suits your hand? Could be a cheap or expensive one but you feel nice when using it. That's nice."

Yes to this. I've got a nondescript red ballpoint on my desk at work, no brand name, no idea where it came from, but it is an absolute joy to use and it will be a sad day when it runs out.

swiggityswoogity · 28/07/2015 20:22

YABU

clearly the optimal solution is an electronic calendar synced to go ail accounts displayed on electronic photo frame. always visible and with cool alertness

FryOneFatManic · 28/07/2015 20:33

Ooooooh, that website is lovely... oh dear, as if i haven't already got shedloads of stuff Grin

cashewnutty · 28/07/2015 20:45

My DH is always trying to show me how to use the calendar on my iPhone but is just can't do it. If it isn't written on the wall planner then it isn't happening. I also still us a Filofax for work. I am a dinosaur.

Duckdeamon · 28/07/2015 20:54

About 2 years ago I succumbed to the linked-up electronic calendars after dh's persistent persuasion and must admit there are a few advantages, but it all feels sterile, and fragile too: if the internet broke in some kind of apocolypse how would we keep track of DCs ' social diaries or resolve marital disputes over who last had a night out?

hotfuzzra · 28/07/2015 20:54

Love this thread with all its glorious pedantry.
My own personal tip: is what I'm writing about more like a pEncil or a cAr?
You're all welcome.

Gruntfuttock · 28/07/2015 20:56

Oh, I see that link was to Cultpens. I love them. The last time I tried to place an online order with them, my security software buggered* the payment process. I phoned them, they picked up immediately and I explained the problem. They could see the failed order on their system, confirmed it hadn't gone through, and put it through for me. I received my order less than 24 hours later - complete with the customary packet of Haribo sweets that they put in every order. Their range is huge, their prices excellent and their customer service very friendly and efficient.

*sorry if that was too technical for you

merrymouse · 28/07/2015 21:00

I like a nice uniball eye pen, preferably as part of a pack of assorted colours.

fourquenelles · 28/07/2015 21:07

I am sure there is at least one Mumsnetter who has her own stationery made. Can't remember who but I had Envy for weeks after reading it on a thread a couple of years ago.

LittleprincessinGOLDrocks · 28/07/2015 21:07

You need a friend like mine. I pouted on facebook because the spine of my notebook snapped in two and I was mid story writing (everyone has a book in them and all that). My friend replied with sympathy, she knows the heartache caused by stationery malfunctions.
Hubby has thankfully come to my rescue with a new note book which should never snap... but it isn't lined Shock

KenDoddsDadsDog · 28/07/2015 21:09

Get rid of them or send them to paperchase forthwith for therapy

I have 6 Parker cartridge pens.

A pink, a purple, a red, a blue, a black and a green one.

The ink matches the casing of the pen. All bought with my own money.

My colleagues look at me all Hmmas I buy them Tesco ballpoint pens to use in the office (using the office stationery budget) Grin

Flisspaps · 28/07/2015 21:12

I use said pens in an Organised Mum diary. Fucking twee branding but the only diary I've ever successfully used.

howabout · 28/07/2015 21:12

I have a new academic year book with skulls on from the Works. It is too good to use so post its all over the cork board as usual for me.

Why does anyone have need of an electronic calendar?

iliketea · 28/07/2015 21:17

I use both moleskine and the leut.... ones and my ink never goes through.. I have lamy fountain pens and different coloured inks and they've never gone through then paper..

bigkidsdidit · 28/07/2015 21:19

When I'm not paying for childcare anymore I'm going to get a big smythson diary

just like this

Ohwhatfuckeryisthis · 28/07/2015 21:19

I love cult Pens! That happened to me Grunt and my order was there next day. I treat myself every few months or when-joy of joy-it's the new school year. But not for the kids-no no. I have a pencil case full of crap pens for them and a lovely one for me. If they use one of mine I get their phone held to ransom.
I'm having the rhodia paper mousemat-because I can!

ThoseAwfulCurtains · 28/07/2015 21:30

Thanks iliketea. It must be just me then as I had Lamy italic pens and ink but they were too scratchy and visible on the reverse of the paper. I've switched to different gorgeously smooth pens but still get shadowsSad

KenDoddsDadsDog · 28/07/2015 21:30

I have an organised mum diary too . Love them .

FirstWeTakeManhattan · 28/07/2015 21:32

Now all the stationery lovers are gathered, can I crank it up a notch?

Can I ask for your recommendations?

I'm a writer, it's a relatively new career, but going really well so far, and I've got enough work to need to plan it a couple of months ahead. Hence the planner. Or diary. And I'll be needing different coloured pens. I love using Filofaxes too but they're not right for this.

Does anyone know of a good one? I'm imagining a turquoise leather A4 for some reason, but obviously won't be buying anything without the approval of MN.

ThoseAwfulCurtains · 28/07/2015 21:34

That Smythson diary would make me jumpy. I couldn't be doing with the lines being different widths like that. Shoddy. Smile

CharleyDavidson · 28/07/2015 21:50

I do secretly love my calendar on my Samsung phone/tablet/google calendar. It's very handy with it's active reminders and how it all syncs together.

But..... I do love a good diary too. I'm a teacher so buy a particular Primary school diary from here

www.edplanbooks.com/primary-school-diary-c53.html

although more and more is recorded electronically at work, I still use this and take it between home and school.

I used to love a pukka academic planner, but can't source them anywhere in a4 size round here.

coffeeisnectar · 28/07/2015 21:57

The best thing about January is getting a new calender and sitting down to write the names on each column for each month, writing on when essential things need doing and then hanging it up in the kitchen.

It's an Oracle. I've trained all humans in this house to "write it on the calender" or "check the calender". It runs our lives.

If it ever went missing We would grind to a halt.

Electronic stuff is fine but not when the whole family has to be in sync.

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 28/07/2015 22:04

I trawl Amazon for my notebooks and diaries. Get some lovely leather covered ones with gorgeous paper inside :)

Does anyone else have people who are oblivious to you stationary love? Ex once bought me a stapler and ring binder for Christmas, saying it was because he knows I love stationary so much.... yeah, but it's pens, nice paper and strokeable notebooks I love, I don't desire blinking staplers!!!!
