Someone just told me to use the calendar on my PC, instead of poring over stationary websites to choose a nice new desk planner to write my work stuff in?

I'm right, surely to goodness?

I love that Primary School Diary. I might buy one and go back to teaching just to use it.

Then again, seeing the section for Saturday which includes the heading, "meetings", perhaps not.

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 28/07/2015 22:05

*stationery. OPs fault :p

Passmethecrisps · 28/07/2015 22:10

I use both a computer one and a paper one.

Both are things of colour coordinated beauty.

I have a teensy pencil case filled with the exact colour of pen I need for each specific job.

If I accidentally use the wrong colour I have to tippex it out and start again

Passmethecrisps · 28/07/2015 22:11

Hay! I love a stapler! And hole punches.

Granted I would rather have a lovely notebook as a stapler wouldn't fit in my zatchel quite so well but my stationery love does not discriminate

Bustle · 28/07/2015 22:17

Back up back up... You can get pens that "feel right" in your hand? I think i need an emergency trip to Paperchase....

Whatabout · 28/07/2015 22:17

I love going to the stationers to buy stationery. It is very soothing to browse, touch and then pay for something you know will make you smile when you see it. There is little pleasure in an electronic diary, it's just not the same.

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 28/07/2015 22:20

Ah, Passmethecrisps now I like using staplers and hole punches, they're fun, but I wouldn't want to unwrap one, along with a bog standard cheapy ring binder for Christmas (I'll note that's all I got). To make matters worse, it was an electronic stapler Shock so I couldn't even have the pleasure of slamming down on it Sad

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 28/07/2015 22:23

I ordered one of these today paper clipper

Someone at work has one, it makes tiny neat clips to hold paper (say 10+ pages) together instead of staples, no holes, holds tight and can be slipped off and reused without breaking your nails.

NeuNewNouveau · 28/07/2015 22:51

So, I seem to have just ordered the paperclipper as recommended and the pilot disposable fountain pens!

Normally I am a very faithful uniball vision elite girl, in a wide range of colours as sold by cultpens!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 28/07/2015 23:00

I may be tempted by disposable fountain pens....

ThoseAwfulCurtains · 28/07/2015 23:07

gasp
Disposable fountain pens?

Ohwhatfuckeryisthis · 28/07/2015 23:13

Nononono. I buy the pilot preppy pen-cheaper than disposable ones and much lovelier colours. I now need a leather pencil case.

NeuNewNouveau · 28/07/2015 23:18

Stop right now ohwhatfuckeryisthis - do not put me off what I have already ordered!

I do already have a lovely leather pencil case though Smile. Although couldn't tell you where it is from as a friend bought it for me (she knows me well!). What did irk me though was a client laughing at my pencil case as if I still had it from school! To be fair it was in an 'ah, sweet' type of way but still Hmm...

kiwigirl42 · 28/07/2015 23:24

Love stationery too ? hate having to make the first mark in it though - because if I get that wrong I've buggered the whole thing up. And I'm not anal about anything else, promise!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 28/07/2015 23:25

Pencil cases you say? I am rather partial to Muji and have this in my handbag aluminium pencil case

suchafuss · 28/07/2015 23:28

My husband works for a stationery supplier, one of reasons i married himGrin

MamaMotherMummy · 28/07/2015 23:38

I pity you for having to work with such Philistines.

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 28/07/2015 23:50

Oooh,I don't have a pencil case! I desperately want one though, there's something so nice about rummaging through one and some of them smell so nice too (brings back memories of a fresh pencil case filled with fresh stationery for school...) . Must buy one, then I can stop losing all my normal pens. Have a lovely clay pot on my bench for work Uni Pin Pens, loose finerliners and pencils, that's nice for rummaging through too :D

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 28/07/2015 23:51

Clay pot made by ds. I should get him to make more for holding stationery!

stillsingingintherain · 29/07/2015 00:31

Yes can I ask for some help too please? I currently have a wall calender with everything on but no portable version so i have to wait till im home to confirm if im free on a certain date. I get a new calender every year for xmas but barely use it, think because the ones ive got are a bit small (only slightly bigger than smartphone). Cant get on with my samsung calender at all! Can any one recommend a diary that is
...

  • not too small but equally not huge (eg so it fits in a handbag)
  • not too heavy
  • nicely set out with plenty of space to write things
  • is nice to look at!

And a second question...which pens do you recommend for writing in it?

Minisoksmakehardwork · 29/07/2015 03:28

I love my mum's office diary and week planner. I tried organised mum but it just didn't work for our family of 6. The diary is a thing of beauty though. Plenty of space for me to write dh's work shifts for the year in, for the dc to have nearly a column each (dts share in the diary so dh can have a column, I have the page). The planner has 6 columns so one for each of us. I can pop it in my handbag as it's not too bulky and I write with a fountain pen in it (has a loop for pen), no bleeding through to the next page. I actually use it on a daily basis.

Dh and I share a calendar on our iPhone. But I still like have the comfort of that paper one.

Ohwhatfuckeryisthis · 29/07/2015 08:49

So far my shopping basket at cult pens is £35. Oops.

Passmethecrisps · 29/07/2015 09:26

I get your point triptrap.

I use uniball pens which I buy from Amazon in packs of ten I think. I use purple and pink and green and blue. DH gets the black and dark blue and red one.

The diary issue is a big one for me actually. I keep my timetable and appointment on my outlook at work but that doesn't sync with my own calendar on my phone so I can't see it when I am out at meetings hence the need for a paper diary as well.

This usually means I spend a daft amount of time cross-referencing both versions.

My diary is a standard office diary but I do like to treat myself to a nice notebook. The problem is I can't find numbered pages so I also spend time numbering pages

NeuNewNouveau · 29/07/2015 09:45

I can report that the pilot disposable fountain pens that I ordered at 10pm last night have arrived already Shock.

They do actually write rather nicely. I am not ready to chuck the uniball vision elites yet though, they are still my favourite but I can see them living happily alongside Smile

NeuNewNouveau · 29/07/2015 09:46

passmethecrisps - surely your IT people must be able to help you sync your work calendar and your phone if you can't do it yourself??
