AIBU?

To think that DH is being faintly ridiculous re dinner tonight

We have 5 students plus 5 of us at the moment. I am working until 7pm so it is DHs job to do dinner tonight as he finishes at 3. Girls need to eat at 6 to be out for 6:45. Just for background :)

Tonight's dinner is baked camembert. Dh would not make it last night because "i don't know what i am doing with it". I have told him about 11 times that all he needs to do is put it in the oven for 45 minutes, take it out and put it on a plate with baguette, salad and charcuterie (which we already have) We have eaten it many times before. On leaving this morning he said "can you send me a detailed recipe for this camembert thing"

I repeated what i have already repeated multiple times and why was he finding this incredibly simple dinner such a challengr to which i got the response "well where do i get the bread and fir example am i meant to take the plastic off"

At which point i got annoyed. Aibu to think that a 37 year old man who is a reasonably good cook, is used to making dinner for 11-12, manages a very challenging job in the police should be able to put some bloody camembert in the oven without copious instruction

OP's not being controlling

If anyone the DH is by finding a means of making sure that she is still responsible for dinner even though she is out at work.

Though tbh I think he's just, as she says, being lazy and daft. Obvs it's got cooked, somehow, now, but I would have said, "if you don't feel confident/feel like cooking it, and are not prepared to read the instructions/google it, just make something else instead and leave me alone to get one with my work"

One Camembert per person!? Holy fuck.

I need to become a student and live at your place! Especially if I can go out at 6.45pm, I'm guessing without having to do the washing up before I go!

How is it an expensive dinner, when the OP has budgeted it in at less than £2 per head, and got the Camembert on special offer? Confused

Looks so good op!

And yes, DH did boil the potatoes dry because he was "concentrating on the salmon" Hmm
Sometimes words fail me!

Dreams of Camembert. Lidl 89p you say?

He's being pathetic. He needs a kick up the arse and/or a good laughing at.

Give it a rest, for Pete's sake, everyone sniping about how it isn't a main course/it's too expensive/why do you have five students. Hmm

P's we have students and last time dh cooked he food poisoned them!!!! After 2 nights of cleaning sicky beds I figured it was just easier to cook myself!

Passme I'm in Scotland and I nearly made that mistake too...but it's the cornish one that's full price, wrapped in paper, the French one in the wee tub is on offer Smile

My Camembert is in the oven. I totally had to ask Jaime Oliver what to do though!

trufflehunterthebadger I'm just down the road a bit in a neighbouring seaside town with lots of students and a partially burnt out pier!

(No students here though, house far too messy!)

Camenbert yummmm. What time did you say it was being served again? Wink

Camenbert and red wine, even better.

We're celebrating DP getting a new job tonight, think i'll suggest a trip to Lid!

He doesn't want to help. You have to do it all. Along with everything else. Hmm

Tonight was my first time having baked Camembert and it was stunning - although could have done with a bit longer in the oven.
Only problem is I usually low carb so half of a gorgeous crispy baguette is out of bounds. Yum. Thanks for idea, no advice on hubby however!
