AIBU?

To think that DH is being faintly ridiculous re dinner tonight

We have 5 students plus 5 of us at the moment. I am working until 7pm so it is DHs job to do dinner tonight as he finishes at 3. Girls need to eat at 6 to be out for 6:45. Just for background :)

Tonight's dinner is baked camembert. Dh would not make it last night because "i don't know what i am doing with it". I have told him about 11 times that all he needs to do is put it in the oven for 45 minutes, take it out and put it on a plate with baguette, salad and charcuterie (which we already have) We have eaten it many times before. On leaving this morning he said "can you send me a detailed recipe for this camembert thing"

I repeated what i have already repeated multiple times and why was he finding this incredibly simple dinner such a challengr to which i got the response "well where do i get the bread and fir example am i meant to take the plastic off"

At which point i got annoyed. Aibu to think that a 37 year old man who is a reasonably good cook, is used to making dinner for 11-12, manages a very challenging job in the police should be able to put some bloody camembert in the oven without copious instruction

Mmmm. I thought it could be cooking time. Sad

If you cook it for too long it goes bad. We do ours for 15-20 minutes, and I take it out as soon as it goes soft.

I baked the Camembert. it had the consistency of scrambled egg. I didn't like it. Sad

YANBU but YWBU if you don't add a photo and costings for every meal in your house for the remainder of the month.

We had a lovely holiday in southern UK a few years ago. We went self catering. I think next time, all 5 of us will pretend to be students and book in with trufflehunter for the duration. the food would definitely be better.

Went to DSis for lunch today. She had baked Camembert, garlic baguettes, salad and a range of meats with olives and red wine. I'd read this thread this morning and was going to do the Camembert next week when she came for lunch. bitch beat me to it and you know who you are Grin

My dp is just like that dies my head in.

It's exactly as a Pp said about still making me. responsible for the dinner even if I'm. not there.

He could find out what to do sat on his arse with the iPhone. hardly hard work.

It is surely harder work to manufacture constant ways to appear to thick to do these things than it is just to get on with it.

Mushy peas are made with dried marrowfat peas. Pea puree is made from frozen (or fresh) peas, that are mashed and blended with butter/cream. They make totally different dishes.

From Wiki:

Mushy peas are dried marrowfat peas which are first soaked overnight in water with bicarbonate soda/baking soda,[1] then rinsed in fresh water and simmered with a little sugar and salt until they form a thick green lumpy soup

OP I grew up in your town, there was often a house full of students and a queue for the bathroom in the summer, as soon as I was old enough I was teaching said students over the summer and taking them on bus tours of London.....

Thanks Kaftanlady, you got it.

Mushy peas and pea purée are completely different, the clue is in the word "purée" - they're blitzed down to a thick, smooth consistency, unlike mushy peas which still have pea-shaped (well almost) peas in them.

The food DOES sound lovely, I never said it didn't. I'm just saying I see the DH's side, or is that not allowed?
Oh and you can dress up mushy peas as much as you like by giving them pretentious names, but at the end of the day they're still mushy peas. Grin

I think ThumbWitchesAbroad (not RockyBalboa) is perhaps suggesting one of those chips is on your shoulder?

The OP's food sounds lovely, no need to be so fucking rude about it.

I was referring to the minty pea puree pretentious twatteryness, how that equates to needing less chips with my meal is anyone's guess.... Grin

I've got a similar DH - I heard him on the phone to his boss as he's been off sick this week with chickenpox and he sounded so professional, yet he can't buy me a pair of trainers from Amazon for Christmas because 'I don't know how to do it' 'you're the Internet person' I had to buy them myself and he gave me the money.

Purple swirl - they have a range oven. 10 cheeses in the oven = really not that hard in a large oven.

Sounds like you need fewer chips with your meal...

I think the "where do I get the bread" would have tipped me over the edge tbh. But then I got the hump with DH tonight for getting out soup spoons to eat pudding with, not dessert spoons. I may need to get out more

minty pea puree

Oh blah bollocks. Just seen this and even more firmly in Camp DH. Mushy peas! Pea puree, indeed. Hmm

TEN individual cheeses in the oven, as well as whacking on the baguettes, salad and 'charcuterie'?"
I'm with your DH on this one, sorry.
You said chilli is his comfort zone. He'll be thinking "wargh FFS, TEN cheeses in there?!"
"When do they all need to be pulled out of the oven before frying to a crisp?"
"Right, I need to time the baguettes warming in the oven to come out at exactly the same time."
"Charcuterie? What the buggery chuff is THAT?! Oh, the cold meat selection in the fridge. Why didn't she just SAY that then instead of being all poncey doolally so I can just whack it on a plate. Hmm "
Let him do a big vat of chilli next time you're feeding ten people and everybody fed, full and non confused. Smile
