AIBU?

To think that DH is being faintly ridiculous re dinner tonight

We have 5 students plus 5 of us at the moment. I am working until 7pm so it is DHs job to do dinner tonight as he finishes at 3. Girls need to eat at 6 to be out for 6:45. Just for background :)

Tonight's dinner is baked camembert. Dh would not make it last night because "i don't know what i am doing with it". I have told him about 11 times that all he needs to do is put it in the oven for 45 minutes, take it out and put it on a plate with baguette, salad and charcuterie (which we already have) We have eaten it many times before. On leaving this morning he said "can you send me a detailed recipe for this camembert thing"

I repeated what i have already repeated multiple times and why was he finding this incredibly simple dinner such a challengr to which i got the response "well where do i get the bread and fir example am i meant to take the plastic off"

At which point i got annoyed. Aibu to think that a 37 year old man who is a reasonably good cook, is used to making dinner for 11-12, manages a very challenging job in the police should be able to put some bloody camembert in the oven without copious instruction

OP, be honest now, do you work for or have shares in a particular supermarket that shall remain nameless?

Ooh we are so having this meal this weekend now! I wonder what the Lidl will make of this sudden surge in camembert this weekend!

I love that he OP got called controlling, am just surprised she hasn't been called entitled or passive aggressive yet either!

For me I'm a competent cook, but would not chose to do a dish I hadn't cooked before for 10 people.
I'd also if I was cooking for 10 want to choose what I cooked. If I was told by dh what to cook then he'd usually get it ready on a tray if it was something he cooked and I didn't, and leave it in the fridge for me to just shove in the oven.

Both me and dh cook most things, and we both have things that only we cook, both of us think what we do is easy and what the other does is hard. Makes us very appreciative Grin

Mind you fil took incompetence to a new level when dh asked if he'd chop carrots once. He asked what shape the carrots should be. Dh's response: Well they don't change shape when cooking do they?

Late to the thread, but I really want that for dinner tonight, even though we have tesco finest steak sandwiches, sweet potato wedge and wine.

I have Brie, not Camembert, but I'm not having it for dinner because we've just had duck legs.

I do have port though, but shouldn't because low-carbing.

Not allowed the salt'n'vinegar crisps with cheese either because low-carbing :(

Back from the palace of joy aka Lidl (no i don't work for them lol). The camembert are 14% off, normally £1.09.

Dh normally gobbles baked camembert like he hasnt eaten in months so there is no doubt he likes it.

I have left the jamie oliver recipe book open for him at the correct page and prepped the camemberts so all he has to do is put them in e oven

Re him not being allowed to cook what he wants, i do all the food management as we have a small budget and this is where my skills lie. His skills are in other areas so it works well. I isually meal plan so that when he is cooking he has something to make that he is confident with. However he was due to be out this evening so DSIL was going to do the camembert as she doesnt really cook but can do this. Then DH changed his plans so that is why he is cooking tonight

Re students, yes i live in a seaside town with a burnt-out pier and a beach based fiahing fleet ;)

Although i actually went out to get them anyway lol

I love camembert!! I even have one of those special dishes to cook it in!!! Sounds like a dream dinner to me. I have to wait for my dairy free husband to be working late shift so I can eat it like i havent seen food in a year!! So yummy!!
As for the husband, could you swap him for his weight in camembert?

Ask him why he is anxious about it?

Sounds yum and have never thought of doing it for a meal, only as a starter. So easy to do. I do wonder about some men though, it's the same with the washing machine in our house, simplest machine ever!

OP where's your nearest airport? Wherever it is I shall get there and prepare meal in your DH's stead. The only condition is I have his, he can go to the chipper.

I've been off cheese for months, am a complete addicit but am currently in the process of shrinking myself (I was about 20% cheese) but to help you out I'll fall off the wagon for today.

reminds me of my mother leaving instructions for my father, this was back in the early 80's, for dinner. It was an already constructed meat pie with pastry on the top which he had to put in the middle of the oven at a certain temperature and time and put the baked potatoes on top (meaning the top shelf). When I came home from work and looked in the oven he had put the baked potatoes actually right on top of the pastry of the pie!!!! It was so ridiculous I had to leave it like that to show mum she came in. Her response was 'only your father could have done that' - have never forgotten it.

I have a Camembert baking dish somewhere. I'm adding nice cheese to my shopping list for Monday. Yum.

OK, so if you could just message me your postcode and door number, I'll pop it into the sat nav. I'll even volunteer to cook all the camemberts for your DH Grin and I have plenty wine (or I will in the next hour if the shopping arrives)
