To think that DH is being faintly ridiculous re dinner tonight

We have 5 students plus 5 of us at the moment. I am working until 7pm so it is DHs job to do dinner tonight as he finishes at 3. Girls need to eat at 6 to be out for 6:45. Just for background :)

Tonight's dinner is baked camembert. Dh would not make it last night because "i don't know what i am doing with it". I have told him about 11 times that all he needs to do is put it in the oven for 45 minutes, take it out and put it on a plate with baguette, salad and charcuterie (which we already have) We have eaten it many times before. On leaving this morning he said "can you send me a detailed recipe for this camembert thing"

I repeated what i have already repeated multiple times and why was he finding this incredibly simple dinner such a challengr to which i got the response "well where do i get the bread and fir example am i meant to take the plastic off"

At which point i got annoyed. Aibu to think that a 37 year old man who is a reasonably good cook, is used to making dinner for 11-12, manages a very challenging job in the police should be able to put some bloody camembert in the oven without copious instruction

I was referring to the minty pea puree pretentious twatteryness, how that equates to needing less chips with my meal is anyone's guess.... Grin

The food DOES sound lovely, I never said it didn't. I'm just saying I see the DH's side, or is that not allowed?
Oh and you can dress up mushy peas as much as you like by giving them pretentious names, but at the end of the day they're still mushy peas. Grin

Mushy peas and pea purée are completely different, the clue is in the word "purée" - they're blitzed down to a thick, smooth consistency, unlike mushy peas which still have pea-shaped (well almost) peas in them.

OP I grew up in your town, there was often a house full of students and a queue for the bathroom in the summer, as soon as I was old enough I was teaching said students over the summer and taking them on bus tours of London.....

Mushy peas are made with dried marrowfat peas. Pea puree is made from frozen (or fresh) peas, that are mashed and blended with butter/cream. They make totally different dishes.

From Wiki:

Mushy peas are dried marrowfat peas which are first soaked overnight in water with bicarbonate soda/baking soda,[1] then rinsed in fresh water and simmered with a little sugar and salt until they form a thick green lumpy soup

My dp is just like that dies my head in.

It's exactly as a Pp said about still making me. responsible for the dinner even if I'm. not there.

He could find out what to do sat on his arse with the iPhone. hardly hard work.

It is surely harder work to manufacture constant ways to appear to thick to do these things than it is just to get on with it.

Went to DSis for lunch today. She had baked Camembert, garlic baguettes, salad and a range of meats with olives and red wine. I'd read this thread this morning and was going to do the Camembert next week when she came for lunch. bitch beat me to it and you know who you are Grin

We had a lovely holiday in southern UK a few years ago. We went self catering. I think next time, all 5 of us will pretend to be students and book in with trufflehunter for the duration. the food would definitely be better.

If you cook it for too long it goes bad. We do ours for 15-20 minutes, and I take it out as soon as it goes soft.
