AIBU?

To think that DH is being faintly ridiculous re dinner tonight

We have 5 students plus 5 of us at the moment. I am working until 7pm so it is DHs job to do dinner tonight as he finishes at 3. Girls need to eat at 6 to be out for 6:45. Just for background :)

Tonight's dinner is baked camembert. Dh would not make it last night because "i don't know what i am doing with it". I have told him about 11 times that all he needs to do is put it in the oven for 45 minutes, take it out and put it on a plate with baguette, salad and charcuterie (which we already have) We have eaten it many times before. On leaving this morning he said "can you send me a detailed recipe for this camembert thing"

I repeated what i have already repeated multiple times and why was he finding this incredibly simple dinner such a challengr to which i got the response "well where do i get the bread and fir example am i meant to take the plastic off"

At which point i got annoyed. Aibu to think that a 37 year old man who is a reasonably good cook, is used to making dinner for 11-12, manages a very challenging job in the police should be able to put some bloody camembert in the oven without copious instruction

YANBU but I'd assume that for some reason he doesn't want to cook the camembert.

YANBU. at all.

But seriously, I now need Camembert. What else can you have it with if you're a gluten free, low carb, vegetarian?

Allisgood - we use strips of raw peppers as scoops. (along with bread/potatoes etc). Celery might be good too?

I'm quite aware that a meal doesn't have to be meat and two veg thanks. I'm a very good, adventurous cook.

The problem with baked camembert is that it's a gooey and delicious dish with bread, but it would start to get a bit cold if I had to eat it with other stuff. Each to their own I guess.

Fondue is nice.

As a side issues, how did these men survive before DP came along? Were they showing up at work in dirty or still damp clothes? Skiving work? Poisioning themseves by not knowing basic food prep? Skiving work more because they can't find their keys and have no woman to ask for them?

Bunbaker: patronising, much? I hardly ever eat meat so I know fine well that a meal doesn't have to be meat and two veg, thanks v. much!

Anyway, trufflehunter has since posted that the proposed meal will include new potatoes and salad as well as cold cuts so I am sure she will be hugely relieved to hear that it now meets my own personal dinner requirements.

Their mums were doing it all for them!

Suspect all the OP's DH wanted was instructions like hellsbellsmelons described. I don't understand why he's getting such a hard time for this. You want someone else to cook a specific meal that you have chosen and they have never cooked before then you give them instructions.
Why is asking for instructions so unreasonable? 3 lines is probably all he was wanting plus to know what he was expected to serve with it.
My husband's cooking me dinner tonight but I leave the choice of what he cooks up to him although he knows just reheating something I'd frozen isn't OK and he has to make an effort (I do most of the cooking)

She gave him the instructions 11 times and he was still asking!

To the pregnant ladies on the thread bemoaning the fact you can't have Camembert.......... YOU CAN. I discovered this last week. As long as they are cooked until piping hot they are fine. I also discovered you can eat nuts too. If only pâté was back on the menu Sad Thanks OP you've just planned tonight's evening meal for me. (Wipes drool off screen). Oh and yanbu.

DH- Can we have macaroni cheese for tea tonight?
Me- Yes
DH- The one with smoked bacon, onion and the crusty top and really cheesy.
Me- Yes
DH- Great. Can't wait.
Me- Can't wait for what?
DH- Tea time tonight and your macaroni cheese.
Me- Am I making it?
DH - You just said you would.
Me - Did I!
DH- We've just had a conversation about it.
(He looks puzzled. It must be with being on holiday and not having to think Wink )

I have been to Lidl and got said cheese. I am a bit scared of it so put it in the fridge for now. Got salad and seedy bread. Smile

It's great with crudités as well. Carrot and celery especially. Cut into batons and dip. I must get to Lidl...... Damn you work!

I was going to buy MiL a camembert baking pot thing for Christmas last year. This thread makes me think such things are just not necessary. also misses point by a country mile

Sounds a lovely meal OP, and I might nick the idea for tomorrow's lunch.

I'd like to come to dinner please. Are they mini cheeses? I like camembert baking pots. Lakeland have some. Totally missing the point. Back on point, just text google it and turn your phone off.

trufflehunter

Never mind the delicious Camembert - you have five students staying with you, and have previously had seven? Shock

Do you live in my south coast town, where innocent-looking students bring much-needed money in to the place, but nonetheless attract narrowed eyes and comments along the lines of 'why do they all get on the bus en masse?' (as if they should parcel themselves up into small groups rather than doing anything together)?

Brill hells. I have to say I was in Lidl quite early but there were only a few Camemberts left. Shock

I can't wait to see if DH is Smile or Confused when he finds out what's on the menu tonight.

Oooh, camembert.....

Do you live in the digital dark age at home and DH does not have access to the interweb to look but this fiendish recipe you are suggesting? and OMG- where to buy bread. Hmmm, difficult one. How did you not shout ' AT A BAKERY FOR GOD'S SAKE?????'

I am on a diet ... grrr... or I would cheekily invite myself around to ops house with a bottle of port.

I would happily help her kick dh up the arse too Grin
