Are 'Hotter' sandals just for Pensioners?

I mean are they beyond the valley of acceptability upon a stylish foot? Ever?

All through my teens and 20's I had to wear bras which didn't fit because no one could be arsed to design a bra for bombs above a C cup. Now my cup run with over with pretty and practical bras which fit.
Now my dream is to find an decent selection of size 3 shoes ridiculously wide shoes. I have to buy a 4 a lot simply to get my hooves into them.
I am seriously tempted by Hotter shoes but there is no shop near me and I really need to try them before I buy.

MrsMarigold · 20/07/2015 22:29

My DM who is 74 wouldn't be seen dead in them but likes Campers.

nigelslaterfan · 20/07/2015 22:29

Devora me too!

I was size 5.5/6 pre children and I just bought a pair of Hotter size seven

I mean, how is it possible?!?

The sandals are roomy but still.

I have so many heels I've bought for weddings which literally cripple me and I have to take off every few minutes!

Some styles are truly awful, but others I quite like. I have a pair of Hotter shoes I wear for work. I'm on my feet a lot, and comfy shoes are a must. Also, I need orthotic insoles to prevent plantar fasciitis, so Hotter shoes are perfect for me as the insoles are removable so my insoles fit in them.

For me, sometimes comfort has to come before fashion, sadly.

nigelslaterfan · 20/07/2015 22:31

So how do Birkenstocks get away with looking so orthopaedic and yet fashionable?

jellyjiggles · 20/07/2015 22:32

My mother wears them. She's 70. I think some styles are passable and for comfort I've been temped but my DM buys the most awful square looking sandles.

BitOfFun · 20/07/2015 22:33

Exactly. If Alexa Chung stepped out in some Hotters, the S&B aficionados would be all over them.

drudgetrudy · 20/07/2015 22:33

There is definitely a business opportunity here. I have had to resort to buying hotter shoes. Some styles are really awful but you can find some that are acceptable if you look hard. Wouldn't it be great though to find really nice shoes that are comfy to walk a fair distance in.

bebumba · 20/07/2015 22:34

They are not the prettiest of shoes but they sell size 9s. They have more than one pair of size 9 in stocks. I do go in to try their shoes because of the novelty of both choice and shoes that fit.

BelindaBagwash · 20/07/2015 22:35

My mother and all her cronies (in their 80s) wear them. Personally I wouldn't buy them, no matter how comfortable they were - I'd just feel I was turning into her!!

eveylikesv · 20/07/2015 22:50

Even Alexa Chung could not make them look good. My eyes are bleeding, hope l won't have nightmares tonight Grin.

Devora · 20/07/2015 22:51

I can't wait till I'm old enough to wear beige lattice wide fit shoes with velcro fastening - my feet will be so happy!

For now, I'm always on the lookout for shoes that won't make me cry with pain but don't actually get me laughed at. It's surprisingly difficult.

gobbin · 20/07/2015 22:52

I love the pink suede Donna shoes linked to earlier. Hmm, reconsiders the Hotter shop in town

LondonRocks · 20/07/2015 23:20

Oh, OP, Birkenstocks are fugly. I can't stand them.

MrsMook · 20/07/2015 23:22

I make flossyfloof look like a big foot. My size 2 birkenstocks (a funky silver) have space in the end, and I usually have to upsize to 3s and 4s in order to wear something that doesn't have putrid pink flowers or bows on them. Even 3s are getting hard to come by these days.

Being so stupidly small, styles that look vaguely respectable in a size 5 or so, just look bulky and clumpy in the smallest sizes.

The pathetic excuse of a size 3 sale rack is rarely worth insulting my eyeballs with. My bunioned up Grandma would draw the line before resorting to the monstrosities that tend to be left on display.

Hotter is definitely at the better end of a bad bunch.

Iggi999 · 20/07/2015 23:23

Thanks Daftbesom, that sounds like enough walking to me! (I often change into flat shoes just to walk to the car park at work).

ouryve · 21/07/2015 00:06

Devora, shoe shopping seems to be a source of constant angst for me. Duck feet, collapsed arches, slight deformity from old injury and lumps on my heels leftover from misspent teens wearing sodding crappy court shoes and ankles that turn in unless I wear a wide soled shoe for stability. Thankfully, I live in a hilly city with lots of cobbles and lots of sensible shoe shops which simply don't bother stocking much in the way of heels. And I still end up living in crocs and Nike running trainers!

ouryve · 21/07/2015 00:08

Birks don't fit me. They're not square enough at the front and they either look like barges or my little toes hang over the lip at the edge, rather painfully.

annandale · 21/07/2015 00:12

yeah, bunions here that are only getting worse and a job where I'm on my feet and walking all day. I literally do not give a fuck any more. Can't get into most Ecco these days and last time I tried M&S there was nothing. Hotter cost a fortune and don't look great but if you pick and choose they don't look terrible either. Good enough.

noeffingidea · 21/07/2015 00:27

I'd wear some of the sandals. They look better than birkenstocks IMO.I don't like the shoes though.
I'm not a pensioner, but I am 55, and I don't give a fuck. I never wear high heels and I walk a lot, so comfort is important to me.

Monica101 · 21/07/2015 00:39

Hotter is a very odd name choice for that shop. I feel like a child of 35 when I go in as the average customer is about 75.

Having said that once you wear them you can't go back. They are so comfortable. It's like wearing slippers all the time.

WanderingTrolley1 · 21/07/2015 00:50

Why are they called "Hotter", anyway?

DoesItReallyMatter · 21/07/2015 01:41

I have a pair and I'm a bit ashamed. Blush

My DD calls them TheOhMychristWhatHaveYouGotOnYourFeet shoes, every time I wear them. Which is often due to the comfortableness.

thefinalcurtain · 21/07/2015 02:14

Yes

wafflyversatile · 21/07/2015 02:48

Some of them aren't quite as bad as others but my idea of what makes an ok shoe has broadened out of necessity in recent years.

These not hotter shoes are good if you suffer from PF.
