AIBU to give up on real life friends and just rely on you lot instead?

We're having a party for a significant occasion. Invitations went out months ago and we had about 50 guests and their dcs, coming. It's now coming up to the day and in the past week about half have cancelled. Even dh's sister.

Most reasons are "we have plans the following week and don't want to travel before them".

I am feeling very friendless and sad.

I've struggled to make friends since we moved here and was really looking forward to people visiting and feeling like I do have friends.

So would I be unreasonable to give up on the real world and just drift off into the MN ether forever?

I'm quite nice really Sad

I'd just like one friend to be able to have a cuppa with once a week and chat about stuff.

Before anyone suggest MN local, there is only tumbleweed blowing through mine :o

Pembrokeshire is one of the most beautiful places :)

We've only made it to the show for one day this year :o

It's a shame the flakers are letting you down like this.

Personally I'd be texting them back with messages like, Oh no thats terrible you cant come, mollie, millie, maura, michael and michelle can't make it either. Anyhow chat soon.

Out them all for their flakiness to each other!

FuckYouChrisAndThatHorse · 22/07/2015 17:46

It's tempting... Think I might wait until we're face to face (if we ever are) and really lay the guilt onGrin

I would bloody love to move to rural Wales. Anything up for sale near you? I'm getting more anti social as I get older. And I have a Welsh speaking husband and children, so we'd fit right in.

I also like climbing trees :-)

FuckYouChrisAndThatHorse · 22/07/2015 17:53

Do it! There are always lovely places turning up on the market :)

Climbing trees will be my new friendship criteria.

SocksRock · 22/07/2015 17:56

I spend a LOT of time of right move. Criteria are - no neighbours within a fields distance or so. Primary school within 5 miles. Trees - obviously. Good dog walking territory (don't have one yet). 4 bedrooms. Aga.
I'm not anti social in the sense I like meeting people for coffee etc, I just like the feeling of having a remote castle to retreat to.

I can teach you to crochet and knit (socks!) if you need a hobby...

KERALA1 · 22/07/2015 17:58

Don't take it personally. People are crap. It's no reflection on you. My expectations now so low I am pleasantly surprised if anything social actually happens. I see this being done to lots of people - even super popular socialite types

FuckYouChrisAndThatHorse · 22/07/2015 18:00

Kerala, I shall lower my expectations. It's the only way.

Socks you're hired :). I have all those things except an aga. Maybe one day.

On my way to usurp your house for my very own

Hussarsataparty · 22/07/2015 18:21

Bloody Facebook doesn't help either - seeing lots of folk out partying, while we sit at home on our own. But on the bright side, there no need to get a taxi home.

PreemptiveSalvageEngineer · 22/07/2015 18:31

SocksRock FYC (with the considered help of Mumsnetters) successfully said "get orrff moi laannnd" to two horses and one Unreasonable Lady. Yer no match for her, I assure you. Grin

FuckYouChrisAndThatHorse · 22/07/2015 18:32

Hussars, everyone's living the life.

I'll stick the kettle on, Socks.

I feel like this, to be honest. I tried to organise a meal for my last big birthday and everyone cancelled. Everyone.

I'm in wales, can I come? I consider you MN royalty Smile

FuckYouChrisAndThatHorse · 22/07/2015 18:47

Ha! Far from Royalty :o I'm common as muck, me.

It's both good and awful to know that I'm not alone and people are this rubbish in general.

captainfarrell · 22/07/2015 18:49

What a shame op . This has put me off organising parties in the past cos you spend the whole lead up worrying they'll be enough people etc. downscale it in your head to an evening with friends and i'm sure you'll have a great time. So many of these things are down to expectation. Hope you have a great night x

Lolimax · 22/07/2015 18:51

I'm packing kids, dogs, fish and guinea pigs in the car as we speak. Plus DS's boyfriend (nice kid, not much conversation but eats for wales) and DH. How about mil? Won't take long down the M4. I can't say we'd add much class but we'd make you laugh.

Welshmaenad · 22/07/2015 18:52

Lolimax, can I scav a lift?

Lolimax · 22/07/2015 18:54

No worries which junction??

FuckYouChrisAndThatHorse · 22/07/2015 18:58

Captain :) that's what I'm trying to do. I just hope it all works out ok.

Loli and Welsh :) laughing is always welcome.

Welshmaenad · 22/07/2015 19:00

I'm also Valleys, how about Nantgarw McDonald's?

Lolimax · 22/07/2015 19:06

Now Welsh either you're Rhondda in which case jump on board (Treorchy dad!) or you're FAR too close to the big city to be a valleys girl lol!!

FuckYouChrisAndThatHorse · 22/07/2015 19:06

You're going to end up having a party down south without me, aren't you?! Go on, admit it! AngryGrin

OP posts:
Welshmaenad · 22/07/2015 19:07

Bit further up the A470 Grin nantgarw's just nice and handy for DH to drop me off.

I'll hold the fish. This is excellent.

Welshmaenad · 22/07/2015 19:08

As if, Chris. We'd totally invite you.

Then bitch about you on AIBU forevermore if you flaked out on us.

susielovessocks · 22/07/2015 19:10

I'm in Pembrokeshire next week on holiday next week. packs sparkly party frock

I have a significant birthday coming up this year and I'd love a party, but haven't booked one as I know the same would happen to me. I also would not be able to pull together 20 ish people in the first place, so in my eyes you are doing ok. Smile
