To think that some BMW are complete cocks?

Just had a massive standoff with a BMW driver. I had right of way, cars were parked all down his side, so I expected him to pull over to let me pass. At the point where we met, he was about 4 foot past a large space to pull in, which was also opposite a side road, which would have I would have been able to use to get past. So there was plenty of room for us to pass without either of us really waiting. He stopped on my side of the road, and expected me to drive on the pavement to get round him. I just stopped, I didn't have anywhere to be, in a hurry, so thought he would move eventually!
Some scaffolders on a nearby house started telling him to reverse but he wasn't having any of it.
A lady behind me tried to get him to reverse, then another guy told him to reverse. But all to no avail, I gave in to his complete twattery and drove on the pavement to get round him. I shouted to him that he needs to learn how to drive, he told me that I was jealous of his car. Hmm If having a car like that makes you drive like a cock, then I'm glad I don't have one.
I'm absolutely shaking with the frustration of his arrogance. I have noticed since driving a small car, I get cut up a lot. But this was ridiculous.

Wow op I came onto MN to start a similar thread. I would say 80% of bad driving I see involves BMW's. They don't seem to be able to drive down the road without tailgating.

daisywellies · 09/07/2015 21:41

I would say that about 75% of rude arrogant ignorant drivers I encounter are driving BMWs. One of my best friends, and my mother's best friends, drive BMWs and they are lovely people. But yes, a lot of ignorant knobs seem to be attracted to BMWs. Even if I could afford one I would never buy one, as they just scream 'entitled knob' to me.

daisywellies · 09/07/2015 21:42

Sorry, my best friend, and my mother's best friend, are two separate people. We're close, but not that close Smile

Meandyouandyouandme · 09/07/2015 21:45

Well it seems like most people agree with me Smile

And limited, you are on such a high horse you will be able to fly over the top of anyone that gets in your way.

I witnessed an agressive woman in one tonight driving dangerously trying to cut into a lane etc. The traffic was really awful due to train strike

daisywellies · 09/07/2015 21:52

I can't figure out Limited's response either. Seems unnecessarily confrontational.

Gileswithachainsaw · 09/07/2015 21:56

I've only been driving a few weeks. so far my issues have been with 4x4s vans and lorries. A aren't my I'm supposed to literally drive thru cars if they haven't shifted at traffic lights because a split second wait to pull off is too longHmm

oh and what's with being so damn close I can see through the grills???

not paid attention to he dear or make though.

Gileswithachainsaw · 09/07/2015 21:57

to the gender or make that should say

mindthegap79 · 09/07/2015 21:58

All you judgeypant hoikers must have sore bottoms.

daisywellies · 09/07/2015 22:02

Nope mindthegap. Just relieved to know that we weren't imagining BMWs bring out the worst in some drivers. Or that total bellends seem to be attracted to BMWs.

Pedestriana · 09/07/2015 22:05

Round my way it's Audi and 4x4 drivers.
Audi driver blanked me the other day when I was waiting at a zebra crossing. I have bright purple hair and was wearing a lurid green dress with a vivid turquoise cardigan. I was brighter than the belisha beacons but apparently he didn't see me....
Then there was the woman pulling out in her 4x4. Parked on the right hand side of the road, indicating right, so I assumed she'd just pulled in to go to the cashpoint. I was quite surprised when she suddenly pulled out to the left.

mindthegap79 · 09/07/2015 22:09

We've never met daisywellies, but good to know you still think I'm a total bellend because of my choice of car. What do you drive? I'm just wondering which category of person to lump you into.

limitedperiodonly · 09/07/2015 22:10

I can't figure out Limited's response either. Seems unnecessarily confrontational

My response is far from confrontational daisywellies. I think it's sensible.
I'm not craven but neither do I want to do battle. I just want to get home.

I've been driving for a very long time and I learned after a very nasty cut up early on that you don't get into pissing competitions with people who have things to prove.

I'd say that it's even more risky now than when I first started and you can never tell who's going to do it whether they're driving a BMW or anything else.

daisywellies · 09/07/2015 22:14

Eh if you read my first post mindthegap you'd see I don't think all BMW drivers are bellends. Please read my posts properly.

Limited, you criticised the OP for not automatically backing down to a BMW driver who was completely in the wrong. That's not getting into a pissing competition.

limitedperiodonly · 09/07/2015 22:17

I think Audi drivers are tortured by the fact that their supposedly 'premium' car shares the engine floor pan and drivetrain with a Skoda and feel the need to take it out on the rest of the world.

Really Compo? I'm unaware of that.

To me an Audi TT is a nice car. The other stuff is in your head, not mine.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 09/07/2015 22:19

Agree with PP that Audi drivers have taken over in the cock stakes. Land Rovers are coming up fast though.

Er, thanks for that. I drive a Land Rover. I mainly do a lot of pootling round country lanes. I don't get on many motorways.

The problem I tend to have is other people assuming I can go off road any time, any place, anywhere. I can't, actually. My car is 4x4, it doesn't fly and swim. I can't drive over big ditches or into ponds so fuck off with your glaring and back the fuck up.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 09/07/2015 22:19

I think most aggressive driving used to be done by BMW drivers, nowadays it seems to have moved on to Audi drivers.

I have a BMW 3 series cabriolet, the only people who let me out or let me filter are the drivers of other upmarket cars. I do drive quite assertively and don't dilly dally but I think I'm quite courteous.

I freely admit my DH drives like an arse though; years of repping have ruined his driving, he's never aggressive to anyone but he drives like an emergency paramedic, we have lots of heated discussions about it.

limitedperiodonly · 09/07/2015 22:20

daisywellies I don't care who's in the right about the pissing competition.

I just want to get on my way.

Don't you? Or would you prefer to sit behind two pig-headed drivers until the cows come home?

daisywellies · 09/07/2015 22:21

Limited

I have no problem with people who stand up to these bellends. If everyone gives way to them then they just continue to treat other drivers like dirt.

limitedperiodonly · 09/07/2015 22:33

That's admirable of you to stand in the queue behind OP defending her all the way.

Meanwhile, I'd be a bit patient then I'd beep and after a while I'd get out and angrily remonstrate with the two of them to get out of the fucking way and I don't think I'd be alone.

And I wouldn't give a shiny shit about which one of them thought they were in the right.

Or are you really pretending that you'd be happy to sit there forever?

daisywellies · 09/07/2015 22:36

Well that's what you'd do. I'd be annoyed at the BMW driver for being such a knob and would empathise with the OP. I certainly don't think she is any way in the wrong for standing her ground.

limitedperiodonly · 09/07/2015 22:38

Well that's what you'd do.

Amazingly, it is.

Because I want to get on with my life while it lasts.

BMW6 · 09/07/2015 22:38

I AM NOT A COMPLETE COCK Angry

mindthegap79 · 09/07/2015 22:40

Hmmm. Well for the record, I love my BMW. It's the best car I've ever driven. The engineering wipes the floor with the competition. It's quiet, comfortable, fuel efficient and handles like a dream. It's also the safest in its class, which is important to me as I have dc.

I've been driving for years. I've never had a speeding ticket, never been pulled over, and as I said up thread, I drive legally and considerately. I get very annoyed at the constant aggression I receive from drivers who drive dangerously close behind or refuse to give way when I'm driving well.

DH drives a TVR. He's not very popular on the road even though he's an excellent and very skillful, considerate driver.

Judgeypantaloons.
