To think that some BMW are complete cocks?

Just had a massive standoff with a BMW driver. I had right of way, cars were parked all down his side, so I expected him to pull over to let me pass. At the point where we met, he was about 4 foot past a large space to pull in, which was also opposite a side road, which would have I would have been able to use to get past. So there was plenty of room for us to pass without either of us really waiting. He stopped on my side of the road, and expected me to drive on the pavement to get round him. I just stopped, I didn't have anywhere to be, in a hurry, so thought he would move eventually!
Some scaffolders on a nearby house started telling him to reverse but he wasn't having any of it.
A lady behind me tried to get him to reverse, then another guy told him to reverse. But all to no avail, I gave in to his complete twattery and drove on the pavement to get round him. I shouted to him that he needs to learn how to drive, he told me that I was jealous of his car. Hmm If having a car like that makes you drive like a cock, then I'm glad I don't have one.
I'm absolutely shaking with the frustration of his arrogance. I have noticed since driving a small car, I get cut up a lot. But this was ridiculous.

Fine Limited but others are entitled to take a stand against bullies on the road. Otherwise they never learn and sail along thinking they're a superior race and everyone is 'just jealous' of them.

limitedperiodonly · 09/07/2015 22:47

I AM NOT A COMPLETE COCK

I've always had my suspicions about you BMW6 but I'm prepared to take your word for it.

There's no need to shout.

It gives you away Wink

Meandyouandyouandme · 09/07/2015 22:52

Thanks daisywellies, I agree that sometimes a stand needs to be made, I made it for a few minutes as I couldn't quite believe that someone would act this way. I didn't even beep, I was so dumbfounded! Though neither did he, just gesticulated a lot.
The chances of limited being behind me, ever, are pretty slim, so I don't think they need to worry that I will hold them up.

DH drives a TVR. He's not very popular on the road even though he's an excellent and very skillful, considerate driver.

TVR drivers provoke a lot of envy. mindthegap79

DH drove one. He also drove a Dutton Phaeton which was like riding in an egg box on wheels and was terrifying on the Hogarth roundabout next to enormous lorries.

But little boys would point and shout: 'Dad, Dad. Can we have one of those?'

To think that some BMW are complete cocks?
jessym · 09/07/2015 23:03

BMW make some superb cars. I should know, I'm currently on my third.

A 'proper' BMW, ie one with a powerful straight-six engine, a manual gearbox and rear wheel drive, delivers a combination of performance, refinement, steering feel and handling which sets it apart from lesser machines. Like Audis, for example....

Unfortunately, however, some BMW drivers couldn't care less about all that. All they care about is image, perceived status and the badge. These are the pushy prats in their nasty 318d's and hideous 4x4s who give the rest of us a bad name.

limitedperiodonly · 09/07/2015 23:18

Dutton Phaetons go very fast.

They are like an egg box on a rocket.

But if I was waiting behind you while you were barneying with an on-coming driver I would be patience personified OP.

Not least because whatever car you or your protagonist were driving, you'd both feel invincible against me.

If there was a crash, I'd come off the worst and you'd just claim off your insurance.

When I'm a pedestrian I watch out for your kind too.

Rage is bad.

Why do you feel you have something to prove?

Cherriesandapples · 09/07/2015 23:23

Emergency paramedics drive like smooth silk, you don't ever feel them change gear!

Chchchchanging · 09/07/2015 23:30

Personal hate is the Picasso mum drivers who think they're oh so safe when actually they're slow and specially unaware
It's not safe to drive 55mph in middle lane of motorway
It's not safe to not indicate when you want to drop darlings off at school it's generally considered best practise to look before you reverse
But it's ok because your in a nice safe car and drive carefully... Wine

rembrandtsrockchick · 09/07/2015 23:34

I had a similar problem with a man in a large car (no idea what it was) who expected me to mount the footpath which had a rather high kerb. I was not willing to risk damaging my tyres so I shook my head and refused to move. He did the angry gesticulating and the waving of his hand to indicate that I should back up 25 yards or so. I switched off the engine and got my newspaper out. After a short time he backed up and we were both able to continue. He only needed to reverse a few feet.

Handy things, newspapers.

solitudehappiness · 10/07/2015 07:04

Makes me think of the movie Personal Services. BCSD (big car small Dick)
Just think that next time it happens op :)

TTWK · 10/07/2015 07:10

Well I am a complete cock and I don't drive a BMW or an Audi. So stick that in your pipe and smoke it!

MagratGarlik · 10/07/2015 07:17

We have a 1970's VW camper (aka the hippie-mobile). Dp has been known in these situations to switch off the engine and point out, "don't know if you've noticed, but I've got a bed in here so can sleep here perfectly comfortably." They tend to move. Expecting others to move when the obstruction is on their side is right up there with randomly flashing people out of side-roads when the main road is otherwise clear in terms of pet-hates.

CigarsofthePharoahs · 10/07/2015 07:39

I don't think all BMW drivers are cocks.
But the two times I have nearly been mown down on the pedestrian crossing outside DS preschool - BMW 3 series. Don't know how they didn't see the lolipop lady.
BMW's might be great to drive and good engineering, but when it comes to ice and snow - well, it'd be funny if it wasn't so dangerous.

coffeeisnectar · 10/07/2015 07:52

We have a 7 series, an old one but still a bmw. It's not caused us any grief.

But we live in a very "naice" area and at the end of our street is a very expensive golf club so we have a constant stream of very expensive cars, driven by very well off men who seem to think that their car entitles them to right of way eve n though all the parked cars are on their side of the road. We've had several stand offs like the op but I will not back down and dp will turn the engine off (in either car - I've got a mondeo) and just sit there. He never loses his rag either.

We also have the school run mums driving their tanks, very badly, dumping cars all over the place and getting pissed off if pulled up about it ...their reasoning being that they have to collect young horatio and get him to his trumpet class or whatever.

weaselwords · 10/07/2015 07:59

On motorways if I get tailgating it is always, without fail, by a vw golf, bmw or Audi. I find the golf drivers the most aggressive. Strangely, this makes me want a golf. I don't understand myself.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 10/07/2015 08:06

Doesn't matter whose side of the road the cars are parked. If you're in the lane first it's your right of way. What are you doing to do, fly over the parked cars?

Fallout4 · 10/07/2015 08:43

I find that a lot of people act very aggressively towards BMW drivers.
I've actually turned my car engine off and made a show of putting the keys on the dash board many times whilst in your position op and the other driver can be driving anything from a mini to a Porsche. It's my right of way and just because I'm driving a BMW doesn't mean you can treat me like shit.
Now back up and let me through or we will be sitting here all day!

TTWK · 10/07/2015 08:46

What page of the Highway Code is that on?

love my bmw, am not a cock, have been tailgated/carved up/ignored by all sorts of makes of cars, presumably driven by people assuming I'm a cock... as jessym said its the quality of the drive I enjoy, and with the miles I do for work I like to get at least some pleasure from my car

Jayne35 · 10/07/2015 09:02

Interestingly last weekend I was in a very long Dual carriageway queue for a show where the signs asked for all show traffic to keep to the right lane (perfectly understandable so that through traffic can get through, also hospital on the left off the carriageway). It turned out the queue problem was being caused by traffic going in the left lane and 'pushing in' when they were confronted by cones. Having queued for around two hours I had plenty of time to notice that the majority of those cars were Audi's BMWs and Expensive 4x4's (driven by females). After my husband refused to let one of them in (she almost crashed into us on the roundabout cutting in!) she said he was a very angry man - he wasn't to be fair - didn't swear or anything just wouldn't move. I was just so shocked are her entitled attitude and wanted to ask her why she didn't have to queue like everyone else.

woodhill · 10/07/2015 09:51

I always thought the driver whose side was obstructed by parked cars should wait. I know on a hill the driver coming down should give way to those coming up.

alot of it is common decency and courtesy. usually someone will wait then you go through then you may wait for someone else further up the road regardless.

however some drivers think it is there right to plough though even if the obstruction is clearly on there side.

last night I thought I had come down a one way lane as no one would let me though. Mainly men in massive cars forcing me into a hedge which was horrible even though I had given way to 6 cars higher up and glaring at me for being there.

I said to one "I do have an equal right of way along here" as I was so fed up.

woodhill · 10/07/2015 09:52

soory "their side"

Abraid2 · 10/07/2015 09:54

Maz, I would have followed them (if I had time) to their destination and told them I'd sent their numberplate to the local waste services people for possible legal action to be taken against them. Even if I hadn't. TAKE YOUR EFFING RUBBISH HOME, PEOPLE.

woodhill · 10/07/2015 09:55

yes Jayne that was what was happening last night. People cutting in on a traffic light going left. This was coming off a main road, going into a left section so kind of coming round from the right side so dangerous. The woman in the BMW as doing exactly that.

I know it was the strike etc
