It's written by a fellow teacher and is nappy at school related, so those that find these things a touchy subject might not want to check it out.

Why is it increasing, when will it stop? These subjects really need to be talked about instead of swept under the rug.

Where is OP? I would like to know why you decided to lob an old article at us please. Thank you.

PandasRock · 27/06/2015 16:15

Really Pirate? Good Lord. That certainly never happened back in the day when I was posting about dd1 and late toilet training/continence issues. And they say MN hasn't changed at all....

Piratejones · 27/06/2015 16:16

Jeez Pirate. Bloody hell.

I've learned to spot them mostly now, so reporting is a lot quicker.

I call bullshit.
I bet most of the children who had toileting issues have a reason for it like allergies, constipation etc

The parental quote by the "Oxford classicists" sounds made up. If you can google when to apply for school you can google average age for toilet training!!

I think the real scandal are the schools who won't help children when they soul themselves. I've read stories of children on here forced to sit in their own shit until a parent turns up.

FayKorgasm · 27/06/2015 16:23

I thought it was a typo and people were fretting about their LOs being potty trained.

I suppose theres a fetish for everything (Confused ) but messaging someone is despicable.

enderwoman · 27/06/2015 16:28

I was shocked by the sentence about starting potty training by 2.5 so they are dry by 3. (6 months + of potty training?! ) NT children usually master potty training in a week or two and starting before 2.5 is no better than starting at 3 years old.

Quiero · 27/06/2015 16:31

Pirate I am Angry for you. That is truly hideous. It's great when twats like this OP turn up posting this shit then isn't it. I notice the OP was on your thread about mini pirate too Angry Angry

I work in a school with two nursery and two reception classes and we have no children in nappies. Similarly a friend works in a large pre-school with 4 classes and has only a handful even starting there at 3 in nappies.

However, I see lots of children who have never brushed their teeth and can't use cutlery.

hazeyjane · 27/06/2015 17:16

What a hideous article. i don't believe a word of it.

For a start - the changing table described, wouldn't be allowed - reinforced legs, so that means it isn't a high/low table, so a teacher of TA would have to lift a 4/5 year old child onto the table - no way.

Ds is in a sn unit within a ms school, they have a bathroom attached to his classroom, with a properly installed changing table as 4 of the 10 children are in nappies due to their sn.

There are 2 other children in the ms reception year (2 classes) who are in nappies, and one is being assessed for ASD and the other has other very good reasons.

The talk of other children sniggering and laughing at the child in nappies, is particularly horrible. The disgust displayed by the 'teacher' and 'writer' of the article is also very depressing - no it is not the greatest thing in the world to change a 5 year olds nappies, but it is a job that should be done with respect and kindness.

Jasonandyawegunorts · 27/06/2015 17:26

You can get changing tables with steps hazey, but i'm not buying it being put into the class room.

Piratejones · 27/06/2015 17:49

It reads like a bad bit of Adult Baby fiction to be honest. wiht lines like "The nappy peaked over the top of the trousers", "then they had the humiliation of being changed in the class room with everyone giggling".

hazeyjane · 27/06/2015 18:17

Yes, I agree Pirate. Surely they wouldn't be changed in the classroom anyway?

I have never seen those, Jason - wish they had them in the preschool!

Jasonandyawegunorts · 27/06/2015 18:23

Hazey i googled preschool changing table
doesn't look like it could fit a 5 year old on it though.

Piratejones · 28/06/2015 02:44

It barely fits that baby in the photo on it, and there are no legs to reenforce on any of the tables with steps.

The whole story is rubbish.

fourmeatpies · 28/06/2015 12:11

I think what people should be discussing is what can be done about this and what can we all do to stop it increasing?

ShellyF I agree tracking down the health visitors who are becoming complacent to letting schools potty train is a good way to start, but we also need to let it be known that nappies past 3 isn't healthy.

chickenfuckingpox · 28/06/2015 12:21

nappies past three are fine there is nothing wrong with being a late developer

fourmeatpies · 28/06/2015 12:23

That's not funny Polter. I've noticed you pop up a lot and assume everyone is talking about people with disabilities.
I'd like to know why you think the numbers are made up, and where you get the actual numbers from?

I have a few ideas, Mostly earlier education, from birth and lots of media targeted towards these parents to motivate them.

OP posts:
GiddyOnZackHunt · 28/06/2015 12:26

nappies past 3 aren't healthy
Says who?

DonkeyOaty · 28/06/2015 12:26

Sigh

WHY should we be discussing it? You obvs don't like dealing with children with a developmental delay, praps you should change career, where you don't have to?
