Hen party snub

I am currently organising my Hen Do and really think it would be hilarious to hire a butler in the buff to serve drinks and organise games. However, one of my long time good friends has stated that she wont be coming if we do hire one as its tacky and against her principles. I was rather offended as I thought everyone would rather enjoy it and its not like hiring a stripper. I'm sure we will be more embarrassed than him!

Wow aren't you all a barrel of laughs! Go for it op if your friend is boring who wants her there anyway!

Amusing coming from a poster who uses a brand of kitchen roll for a NN Wink

Pipbin · 20/06/2015 20:28

Quite, Gab, boring is the last refuge of people who don't understand that people like different things.

I don't think the friend is boring, she is just being honest. I read so many weedy excuses on MN for people turning down invitations that it is refreshing to see a straight answer for once.

I don't particularly find a naked man a thing of beauty anyway. I wouldn't decline an invitation but wouldn't find the evening especially enjoyable either. I don't like the idea of objectifying someone male or female for cheap thrills. Nor do I find it funny.

I once sat out a pole dancing lesson on a hen weekend. I don't think my friends thought I was boring.

I sat there with a glass of wine taking photos of them. Not for pervy reasons I hasten to add, but because they wanted me to.

WyrdByrd · 20/06/2015 20:37

I would find the 'being served' aspect more uncomfortable than the nudity tbh. I wouldn't drop out of a good friend's celebration over it as it would be their choice but I'd probably try to keep my distance from the poor chap!

Cocktail making class at home sounds like a bloody marvellous idea though - I can't think of anyone I know that would turn their nose up at that!

MrsTerryPratchett · 20/06/2015 20:38

or I'll read a Terry Pratchett novel

Now that's a plan!!

Is it boring to disagree with objectifying human beings and to feel the world would be better without anyone paying anyone else for nakedness? Possibly, but I'm not 12 and therefore don't care if the other girls call me names.

MitzyLeFrouf · 20/06/2015 20:40

Cocktail making classes are a bit boring I think. I'd rather someone just make me some gorgeous cocktails.

expatinscotland · 20/06/2015 20:42

I never had a hen do because we eloped but does the bride to be organise them herself? I thought a mate did it.

Cocktail maker not my thing, either, as I don't drink spirits but I'd go along and have non-alcoholic ones, just not with a butler in the buff or any other stripper.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 20/06/2015 20:42

I wouldn't like this and wouldn't attend unless I really, really had to. I wouldn't go to a strip club and think there is something a bit sad about women charging around, cat-calling and trying to get as close to a male stripper as possible. I think it's revolting tbh. I'd think the same the other way around but if anything, men seem more restrained?

Anyway OP, someone upthread suggested a magician; I think they're brilliant entertainment, so clever.

LauraDec, your event sounds as if you enjoyed it. I get the impression though that you'd have enjoyed it just as much if he were dressed?

thefourgp · 20/06/2015 21:24

My hen is next month and trust me on this one, do whatever you want to do. It's impossible to please everyone. Naked butler isn't my cup of tea either but if a grown man wants to make money that way, it's his choice. Have a great time whatever you end up doing OP. X

This too.

CoffeeAndBiscuitsPlease · 20/06/2015 22:20

I bowed out of a hen do for the exact reason above.

It's against my principles too, and OH wouldn't be happy, just like I wouldn't be happy with him being waited on by a naked woman just to ogle at.

That and it's cheesy and tacky as fuck...

PurpleSwift · 20/06/2015 23:38

I'm with your friend. Its objective and vile
