Game of Thrones - I'm not watching any more

It's just gone too far for me. A good book series is ruined for.

Where the Stannis Baratheon storyline can go from here is anyone's guess...

It just didn't add anything. No equivalent happened in the book.

Now Stannis doesn't have any sort of 'moral high ground' in the battle for Winterfell.

I haven't read the books but saw the most recent, horrific episode. Do you mean there was smoke without fire, narratively speaking?

But the books are separate canonically to the show and they have stated that they will be over and over again. You don't know that what happened won't make a difference in this continuity. As I said on the other thread it was hugely difficult to watch and I have seen a lot nasty shit in programmes and films. This will have massive repercussions as Davos and possibly Stannis's wife will now turn on him, I reckon. Plus he no longer has an heir and that weakens his position, making a much more interesting vie for the throne.

That being said YANBU not to like it, that's up to you. But YABU to compare it to events in the book, they're seperate.

Just watched it on Now TV so just ahead of Sky.

I finished reading the books a couple of years ago and was always looking forward to the next one being published. Now there are just too many quesitons on how the two totally separate narratives will be pulled together.

Oh well.

Just felt the latest episode was unnecessarily 'shocking'. I'm sure George RR Martin will be on the news in the next few days talking about how this happened in the 'real world' of European history....

Do you mean how the show and the books will come together? They won't, they've stated there is an end game but how they get there will be different and separate. Martin has told them what must happen in the end but how the show gets there is up to them, so things will start to be completely different from now on in. In some ways it's better as the show won't be spoiling the events if the last two books apart from the very end

Better I believe the events that Read is rightly upset by (because it was horrendous to watch) involved somebody being burnt alive, hence too soon Shock Wink

Chief I appreciate that, but I just don't think I'll bother watching any more of the TV show. We've benefitted from a free trial of Now TV through DH's work and GoT was one of rew series that we would have subscribed to watch.

Do you think he'll bother to publish any more books?

I haven't read or watched any of it apart from DH having it on in the background. He had to stop it as I was shaking and crying. It was really awful and I will have nightmares.

Wayne A young girl was burnt alive and we heard her screams of fear and pain Hmm Sometimes the imagination is worse than the reality, all film makers know this, but I found that really disturbing. And the fact she knew her parents allowed, even wanted, it to happen was just heartbreaking

Didn't see anything. Heard worse screams in supermarkets.

Luckily the bad wigs and continuity errors stop you from taking it too seriously.

I stopped watching at the Sansa rape because I thought it went too far AGAIN. I felt I couldn't excuse it anymore and I'm angry a really good show I otherwise enjoyed was taken away from me Hmm I read George R R Martins explanation of that scene hoping it could justify it, it just made me angrier. Since then I've literally been laughed at by men I know who ask why I don't want to watch it. I take it this thread means it's got worse?

I'd read the books so I knew what was coming to 'Sansa' when she married Ramsey. The TV depiction was less violent than the book.

The fate of poor Shireen was never discussed in the books. I thought it was a horrible scene.

In a very simplistic sense, I'd always viewed Stannis' army as the 'good guys' and Ramsey as the 'bad man'. Now they're both just horrible monsters.

I suppose that's the way the author would have it - in war there are no goodies and baddies - just lots of monsters, and women and children just end up battling to survive in the midst of them all.

I knew what was coming with Sansa from the books which was so much worse in them. I just felt that we knew that's obviously what was going to happen and it didn't need to be shown/heard. The same goes for this scene which I can piece together pretty well, unnecessary shock factor. It's the arrogance from the writers when they defend it as well.
