It's just gone too far for me. A good book series is ruined for.

Where the Stannis Baratheon storyline can go from here is anyone's guess...

slow handclap

fourchetteoff · 10/06/2015 16:47

Thank goodness for people like you Windchime.
How else would the rest of us know that there is just fluff where our brains should be?
Eternally grateful for your fascinating observation (yawn)

Tonberry · 10/06/2015 17:33

Tell me windchime, what should we be watching instead? I've cleared my Sky planner and I'm waiting for your recommendations.

ttc2015 · 10/06/2015 18:42

I don't know poster windchime, there's crap reality TV and soaps vs things with an actual plot...I go for that.

Although for recommendations Fear the Walking dead is starting in a couple of months and Hannibal is starting again tonight!

HFarnsworth20 · 10/06/2015 18:52

Holy sht, windchime* is right!!! I'm wasting my life!!

[rushes to library]

fourchetteoff · 10/06/2015 18:55

HFarnsworth.
It's too late already. Clearly you have already demonstrated you have no actual brain.
Going to a library would be casting pearls before swine.

HFarnsworth20 · 10/06/2015 19:02

So this salman rushdie book won't do me any good?

limitedperiodonly · 10/06/2015 19:04

You're all so touchy.

I'm with windchime here. You should improve yourselves

I only ever watch wildlife documentaries on my televisual device.

The one with dragons and direwolves is excellent. I forget the name though Wink

fourchetteoff · 10/06/2015 19:09

HF - only if you have an itch in your ear.
You could roll it up and 'floss' it through your head. Salman would approve.

HFarnsworth20 · 10/06/2015 19:12

Awwwww....back to sitting in front of the TV drooling, then.....

[throws book in river]

IWillOnlyEatBeans · 10/06/2015 20:13

In case anyone else stupidly googled the plot line to A Serbian Film Shock here is something to help clean your brain...

Jon Snow Dinner Guest

ReadtheSmallPrint · 10/06/2015 20:39

That's brillliant!

I did google the plot, but luckily my bain doesn't need cleaning because I don't have one!

I've seen way worse violence and sexual content in thriller series / horror films than GoT and nobody is up in arms about those.

Re the Sansa rape, I found the depiction of the recent rape in Eastenders way more upsetting than the Sansa one.

GoT isn't frills and puppy dogs, it's a gritty fantasy drama and has been since day one. Most importantly it is FICTION so I don't understand what the fuss is all about really.

BerylStreep · 10/06/2015 21:34

I heard they were bringing out a

On the Shireen plot, I thought it was going to be an Abraham moment and that there would be some magical / godly intervention at the last moment.

It was unpleasant, but let's not forget that child sacrifice took place in the bible.

The musical is fab. You do have to be a fan to get it though.

The look between Theon and Ramsey - yikes!

tutorproof · 11/06/2015 14:46

You know nothing Chris Martin Grin

limitedperiodonly · 11/06/2015 15:53

Oh and I like the birdwatching programme with three-eyed ravens in it.

Apparently the robin has been named the British national bird today after a poll.

People are fools.

MNpostingbot · 11/06/2015 17:20

Not read the whole thread as avoiding spoilers but accounting to Benoiff and weiswhatsit the guys running the show, this came from a discussion with George Martin when planning the series.

The books remain incomplete, 3 years ago when they were setting up narrative for the current series, George Martin confirmed that it was his intention for stannis to sacrifice his daughter. It doesn't happen on this March to winter fell which is in the books, but it is apparently necessary in the context of how the series (books and show) ends

Martin is not going to be able to complete the books before the series completes, so there has to be an element of the showrunners dictating their own narrative.

tutorproof · 11/06/2015 17:22

Really, this is all down to Martin not meeting his deadlines isn't it.

limitedperiodonly · 11/06/2015 18:07

I find churlish of book readers to chivvy Martin or complain about deviation between the precious books and the TV show.

Late in life, he invented a fantastic saga and wrote some books which were seized upon for a TV series.

By magic, that secured his pension and presumably the financial security of his heirs. Bit Game of Throne-ish.

Maybe he CBA to write another book and has let David Benioff and Daniel Weiss get on with it.

Get over it.

And stop stamping your feet and wailing: 'I'm not going to watch this any more. Wah!'

AmberFool · 11/06/2015 18:55

Burning your daughter because of inclement weather still does not make sense to me. Hmm

All the sex, violence, sexual violence, torture, burnings and (insert your choice of graphic violence here) have been pretty horrific, gruesome and stomach churning to watch. And yet we still watch. I am a fan of the books and hate the changes on the show. I still watch it though.

limitedperiod I enjoy moaning about the show - gives me something to do while I wait for the next book. Grin

lilivonshtupp · 11/06/2015 19:07

I LOVE the changes to the books.

The last one was verging on dull. So many new 'who gives a shit about this person' characters. I like the merging of plot lines into characters we already know. For a while there I was actually 'blipping' over the Stannis book bits because they really dragged. I genuinely don't get the 'BLASPHEMY!!!!' aspect to people who read and watch both.

And yes, I think GRRM is the Harry Styles of the writing world. Let me explain - some teen girls adore Harry so much to death you'd get the feeling they'd rather see his health, both physical and mental, break down in order for them to get their groupie fix. Same for poor old GRRM. Anyone who has ever written anything knows that 'the muse' is a fickle woman and few things can be entirely puked out onto the paper on demand. You get the feeling that people would like to see GRRM chained to a desk for eternity for their own gratification sometimes.

limitedperiodonly · 11/06/2015 19:13

That's all right then AmberFool

Am I allowed to say what's all right and what's not? Wink
