Cashier... Am l being unreasonable?

This isn't the first time he has done it.
So, l shouldn't have returned to his till - but l thought he wouldn't do it again.
This particular chap enjoys hiding an item, if he knows the child is waiting/wanting it.
Today it was a packet of nasty frozen themed cup cakes....
As soon as he has scanned them, he hid them under his keypad.
My daughter is six and she was wanting to take them straight away.
For what must have been at least two minutes, he claimed they had disappeared!
Dd was confused and kept checking the conveyor belt, the basket... The belt.
I kept thinking "oh he will give them back in a moment" he made her wait an eternity...
Poor girl was going to cry....
I know l could have said something, but l wanted to also be kind to him.
It went on forever.
Him laughing ... And me looking confused with a weak smile on my face.
Plus, he has done it before. With some sweets of hers.
It was also quite apparent that dd was upset.
I'm not going to report him, l just wondered if anyone else finds this odd.
I know he is doing it to be 'funny' but l think he has (again) over done it.

Yes I would find it odd, an adult deliberately antagonising a child.

After saying they weren't there just once I'd have said "give her the bloody cakes for gods sake", it isn't a joke when a child is about to cry, it's teasing and nasty.

Odd and he probably should know better (he probably thinks he's being cute) but at the same time your kid is 6 and that's way too old to be crying over sweets and cupcakes. I'd expect that behaviour from a toddler, but a six year old shouldn't be such a crybaby.

What a div! I would have said something there and then to him if he did that with my 7 year old he would have set her off into a full blown meltdown and I totally wouldn't have been impressed then!

I did reassure her.
At the time though, she was distressed.
Dashing from the belt to her basket, looking through my bits.
It was one of those 'should have said something moments'
I'm also surprised Morrisons was so empty, giving him ample time for his roadshow!

Bit odd but I don't think it was malicious or he wanted to upset her in any way.

I would have probably have said to dd - ooh have you looked there yet? pointing to the cakes.

Instead of standing there waiting for the joke to end.

Well, he might have been oblivious to her almost crying.
As her mum, l know the signs.
To clarify, she was taking them home for later. Wanting to put them in her bag.
I wouldn't feed her six shitty cupcakes anyway. Grin

Thing is, it was one if those crazy moments, where you think to yourself "oh he will stop in a moment!"
At the end l forget to pick up my bread.
He called after me...
"oh" l said "l thought you'd hidden it! “
