Just saw on social media the happy news that someone has had a baby. Lovely.
Then it says "if you would like to make them a meal, ..."
Again, lovely idea. I used to do this when my friends were having their babies.

But then it turns nasty....
"please go to this website to register"
I click on the link in amazement and it's a website where you register and then pick the days you're going to cater, and then you have to say what you're going to make.
Ok - I guess no-one likes lasagne 6 days on the trot BUT then it goes on to say "all meals must be dairy free. Please use xxx brand of lactose free whatever, not Alpro. Please deliver meals in disposable containers and by 7.30pm each day. Please text to confirm your delivery on the day"
These last bits were actually written by or on behalf of the happy couple, not by the Control Your Friends and Famly website.
I mean I'm all for organisation but whatever happened to being bloody grateful for any help whatsoever and appreciating the time and effort that someone has gone to to make you any meal, even if it is the eighth tuna casserole that week.
Anyway, that's my rant over. AM I being unreasonable?!!

That is actually a website!?

FarFromAnyRoad · 04/06/2015 22:33

YANBU - so so so NBU. I'd read that lot and think 'fuck you all to fuck and back, upside down, inside out and a punch in your laughing gear to round it off'! I'd find that so off putting, so grabby and unfriendly that no, I wouldn't do anything after reading that.

TheIncredibleBookEatingManchot · 04/06/2015 22:34

Has anyone signed up to make them a meal yet?

calculatorsatdawn · 04/06/2015 22:34

Wtf?! Surely not. What's the website called. This needs to be seen

maroonedwithfour · 04/06/2015 22:34

Wow, very rude. Many, many people cope without having meals cooked for them. Ready meals anyone?

Theycallmemellowjello · 04/06/2015 22:34

Meh, I know what you mean, but if people don't like it they won't get any food!

WorraLiberty · 04/06/2015 22:35

I'd congratulate them

Then direct them to www.fuckrightoff.com

JustHavinABreak · 04/06/2015 22:35

Seriously? Not that I don't believe you but I have to see this.

griselda101 · 04/06/2015 22:36

yanbu, i mean I know it's hard having a baby but come on, I managed to make myself food (toast or microwaved) fgs, as more or less a LP, if anyone helps on this it's a bonus, not like taking an order for a bespoke takeaway!

nilbyname · 04/06/2015 22:36

far your rebuff made me lol! Fuck your inside out! Grin

In other news, that's totes grabby and yuk!!

honeysucklejasmine · 04/06/2015 22:36

My friendship group does this. We have a group chat, people claim days and say what we're making so no repeats. We do get our dishes back though!

It does sound like pickiness, but they probably only get on with that specific brand, rather than diva like behaviour.

Overall, YABU. I feel bad saying that though, as I understand your concerns.

Send them a walkers multipack of crisps Smile

WorraLiberty · 04/06/2015 22:38

Did the happy couple give any reasonable explanation why they feel the need to beg for food in this way?

GlitteringJasper · 04/06/2015 22:40

Why can't they cook their own food?

cleanmyhouse · 04/06/2015 22:40

Things just keep getting weirder.

TheSkiingGardener · 04/06/2015 22:40

Good god. I googled and there are at least a couple of websites for this. Good idea I suppose if you want to organise it for a friend but to put a begging link up on your birth announcement, just wow.

QOD · 04/06/2015 22:42

American

I've seen so many when My pals have a friend who.suffwrs a bereavement r

EthethethethChrisWaddle · 04/06/2015 22:42

I really don't feel like cooking next week. Please tell me this web address so my friends can sign up to cook for me.

Hell, I'm not even fussy, I'll accept anything.

Sits back and waits for my friends to rush to cook for me for no reason. Grin

cosytoaster · 04/06/2015 22:46

They need to get a grip and cook their own food, like just about everybody else manages to do!

scarletforya · 04/06/2015 22:47

You'd just have to lace the food with fart powder or something. They've a new baby so obviously not, but the temptation....

satine · 04/06/2015 22:51

The website is called takethemameal.com
It just seems so arrogant to me to dictate how your lovely friends will help you. I was always delighted to make some meals to go into the freezer for my friends, but hell, in this case there are two adults and one newborn so if they were my friends telling me to register and book in my assistance I think I would pass.
Your replies have made me laugh. A lot.

Mamiof3 · 04/06/2015 22:52

They've had a baby! Jesus wept barring disability or one of them being in hospital or something why on earth can't they cope with cooking? Just get a take away for a couple of days or have something quick out of the freezer ?

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 04/06/2015 22:52

Shameless place marking.

satine · 04/06/2015 22:58

Actually, I have a full time job so perhaps I could tell my friends to register to come and do my housework. After all, it's no use hoovering two days running when the cat litter hasn't been changed for a fortnight.
