Without even trying I usually eat 10+ portions a day, I just can't think how anyone doesn't have at least 5 a day.

Today ive had
oats with kiwi and banana
Apple to snack
Chicken pasta with tomatoes, courgette, onion garlic peppers mushrooms (3 portions at least)
Greek salad tomatoes, cucumber, avocado Basil red onion

And now currently snacking on carrots and humous

Grin atticus !!

MitzyLeFrouf · 16/05/2015 20:44

85g isn't that much but the 200g of apple would still only be one portion. Harder to get 85g of spinach or something.

Rudely potatoes aren't considered one of your five a day.

SweetAndFullOfGrace · 16/05/2015 21:34

I'm Australian, potatoes are one of my five a day (don't ask me why potatoes are allowed in Oz but not here, but they are).

Redglitter · 16/05/2015 21:45

Artandco I eat fruit and I cook lots from scratch but I just omit the veg. I love the look of salad etc but can't eat it. I've been like that since a child, my parents tried their best but eventually gave up. I can just about cope with chopped tomato for bolognese but that's it. No onion or mushroom etc. Even my local take away shop knows not to put veg through my food

hotdog So nice to see someone else who's anti veg Smile

SonceyD0g · 16/05/2015 21:46

Some days you're ahead, some days you're behind!
Today's food is 2 Bourbon biscuits, hate them but no time for breakfast. Lunch was nuts from graze box. (Nuts must be a kind of fruit?)
Dinner was steak with Jersey royals, asparagus and green beans. Half a bottle of St emilion (grape juice must count surely)
Weekends my unhealthy time
almost vegan during the week just need a splash of skimmed milk in my morning tea.
The 5 a day thing tho in most countries think it's 7 a day. Are British people just rubbish at eating food if it's not beige?
Always remember Gillian mckeith and nigella Lawson are the same age. Which one eats more fruit and veg and which one looks a million dollars!

paddymcgintysmum · 16/05/2015 21:51

Thanks OP, your post reminded me to do more. There was no old veg in the fridge but maybe in a day or two it would have been binned. So ...
..I added all to my sauce rather than wasting it. Broccoli, Snow peas, no garlic or onion as Dentist in two days.
I notice Waitrose are reducing more and more "good" foods in the bins. Long stem Broccoli, Fennel, none cheap of course and bread and spuds always cheaper than coloured veg.
I know only too well how to survive on some crumbs from the back of the cupboard.

DisappointedOne · 16/05/2015 22:24

I'm afraid it can't have been proper ragu if it didn't contain carrot and celery.

Mine did. I didn't think people usually did a proper ragu though, and just chuck together basic ingredients, none of which are really vegetables.

Here's the recipe I follow. (I'm veggie so have never tried either version.)

Eeewww I've just eaten a banana an apple and a satsuma on the back of this thread and now feel as though I'm about to lay an egg Blush.

90% of my diet is bread - soda bread, rye bread, crumpets, muffins, pitta bread, hot x buns, french stick etc. Dripping with proper cold butter mmmm....

OP didn't really have a lot to say in the end did she they it

StackladysMorphicResonator · 16/05/2015 23:19

So, in conclusion: OP, you are being either ridiculously goady or unpleasantly holier-than-thou. Either way, you come across as a knob!

chocolatekatie · 17/05/2015 06:42

What a horrible judgey op.

I don't like fruit or vegetables so don't eat them, I don't feel like shit and have good skin. I take a multivitamin. I think fruit and veg will go down in history as being operated.

Do you want to know what I ate yesterday? Jaffa cakes and a pot noodle as I've got dd going through chemotherapy and some days I eat less than that!

chocolatekatie · 17/05/2015 06:42

Overrated!

LotusLight · 17/05/2015 06:52
  1. Someone just made up 5 a day and it stuck. It has no scientific basis.
  1. Eating a variety of foods IS good for you - see recent research on gut bacteria but that needs to be natural foods (not 5 types of chocolate).
  1. You could be healthy if you just ate an animal from nose to tail - lots of vitamins in kidneys, liver etc (not I like those) but just saying innuit eating lots of good animal fat and not much veg were not unhealthy as they got loads of the stuff in veg from bits of the animal we don't now eat.
  1. Be a bit careful about fruit as it is basically sugar/fructose so much better to get your vitamins more from veg than fruit but fruit of course is much better than junk food so it's all relative.

(Jaffacakes and potnoodle - well once in a while fine but I do eat largely 100% unprocessed foods and am never ill. I do think we are what we eat but everyone makes their own choices).

Stillwishihadabs · 17/05/2015 07:50

Flowers Katie. On busy shifts I have eaten like that too.But I don't think it's good for me.Must be tough to have to do that day after day.

Ipigglemustdie · 17/05/2015 10:28

Two slices of toast for breakfast
Eight can of lager for dinner
Pizza for supper Grin

OttiliaVonBCup · 17/05/2015 10:45

Lemon and poppy seed shortbread.
Two out of five.

Bugger I'm good!

SheWhoDaresGins · 17/05/2015 11:20

Well I am on a roll, I have had marmalade on my toast for breakfast.

Finished the pink grapefruit that was left from my g&ts last night.

Come dinner time I will have had some crisps in fact I think I'll have them now.

That's 3 so far Wink

atticusfinchatemybaby · 17/05/2015 11:55

Are you ok OP? Please post again to let us know you're safe. I've been up all night worrying that you had trapped yourself in the bathroom with a landslide of shit. If you have, don't panic. If you have any celery stashed in the bathroom cabinet for bathtime treats you might be able to use it to lever the door open. If not, a hollowed out butternut squash might work as a spade to clear a path to the window.
hth.

SomewhereIBelong · 17/05/2015 14:46

cold is getting better so less lemsips, but ate an actual apple today - and my Alpen had 3 raisins in it...

Passmethecrisps · 17/05/2015 21:15

We are in the process of packing up to move house. It was only this evening that I counted up what we had all had to eat today . . .

Toddler
Breakfast - sweets. Refused bacon sandwich. Hobnob
Lunch - bowl of chips and tomato sauce and Mayo. Refused soup and a sandwich
Afternoon snack - two packets of pom bears, cucumber pieces and a cheese string
Dinner - alphabites, fish finger and beans Blush

We have had a bacon sandwich, soup and a sandwich, a few chips and still waiting on dinner which is a ready meal.

There is lime in my lager

BlackeyedSusan · 17/05/2015 23:17

it does not have to be expensive: less than 60p for a kilo of carrots, or a kilo of onions. less than £1 per kilo for frozen sweetcorn or peas or brussel sprouts. then whatever is on supersix in aldi, if it is not too expensive per kiloI try and make the majority of meals from veggies that cost £2 or less per kilo.

cut out the meat and use lentils and beans and wholegrains and that makes it a lot cheaper too.

CookPassBabtrigde · 17/05/2015 23:38

I'm a worse eater than my 7 month old DS, I'm a vegetarian, and I don't get 5 a day everyday
I do eat fruit and veg, reluctantly sometimes, as I'm trying to set a good example, but if I want to eat a pack of biscuits or have a crap tea then I do. Does it really matter if you don't eat a portion with every meal? It's about generally making an effort to be healthy, isn't it?
So you've had 10+ portions today. Well done. I personally don't count and can't really be arsed to. I just try to enjoy life and try not to obsess over things.

Redglitter · 17/05/2015 23:42

I've had 4 bottles of cider tonight. that must be waaaaaay over my 5 a day surely

rumbleinthrjungle · 18/05/2015 00:12

I've spent two days trying to keep my blood sugar more stable and spent today eating ham, prawn salad ( with crisps), nuts, swede chips with a pork chop and rocket, and a hell of a lot of blueberries. My body is screaming for cake, bread, scones and chocolate but I have had the fecking blueberries and told it there's sugar, shut up. I've probably just scraped five.

Takes more planning and buying to eat like this, I can usually happily live off sandwiches and bananas. and cake
